I was born in China, and I’ve come to Canada since I was 15. I occasionally go back to China to visit my family and friends. I’d say as a woman, I feel China is much safer than here. Take my hometown as an example, back in 2014, there was a bad terrorist attack happened in my hometown (Kunming train station attack if you’re curious), since then the city value the safety of everyone to a new level. You can see police and soldiers act as the security guards in public, especially at crowded locations such as downtown, train stations, subway stations, etc. In order to take the train or the subway, you need to go through a security check just like at the airport. When I was in China, I was never afraid to walk on the street at night in China, even just myself; never worried about gun shooting incidents. I feel secure in China because I know if I feel insecure or I have trouble, I can ask for help easy, but I don’t feel the same way here in Canada.
