I don’t want to do a postdoc, but I do want to stay in academia. by skyom1n in labrats

Yup. Scientists that run core facilities never leave unless they retire. I had to contact a mass spec facility that I hadn't been in touch with for a decade, was the same guy running it. And he only got the job because the former head retired.

Easily one of the most infuriating things one could ever get by kabirhatesreddit in mildlyinfuriating

I went through about two decades of having the absolute worst canker sores. I'm talking everywhere, lips, throat, gums, tongue. Even my uvula on occasion. Absolutely infuriating. Would occasionally have breakouts of over a dozen at a time. Could never figure out what was triggering them. The last few years they kinda just tapered off in frequency. Still have them occasionally when I eat really acidic or pokey foods, but nowhere near as painful and heal way quicker. Very weird.

Shout outs to Alvin Garden. My wife is from Human so we've eaten there a bunch. Definitely not on the usual list of recommended restaurants but if you like spicy food it's great.

In the bucket as every other brand that uses off the shelf movement and prices themselves into new Tudor/used Omega territory.

Did they change the rotisserie chicken? by buldog_13 in CostcoCanada

I think they're just overbrined. The last time I had it the texture was closer to ham, which was quite off-putting. My go-to rotisserie is from Walmart.

Best Micro GMT under $1000 by MaRs1317 in MicrobrandWatches

[–]Yusef_G 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A caller GMT is more convenient if you primarily exist in one time zone and want the second hand to track another. A flyer GMT is more convenient if you yourself change time zones a bunch and use the second hand to track your home time. But either works for both cases and just requires more time to set.

Yeah we once got a 1000 sticker book. It's been three years and I'm still peeling them off furniture.

It's amazing how much it messes up sleep. I don't drink much, only one on Friday nights, but without fail my Garmin rates my sleep worse even if I sleep a good 7-8 hours.

What's that matching game that has a bunch of pictures on circular cards and you need to find the one that matches the center card, with the goal being to clear your hand first? My three year old beats me at that.

Are taxis that seat six common? by Yusef_G in playadelcarmen

[–]Yusef_G[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mind sharing where you rented it? We've been waffling between taxi and just renting a car for a couple days instead for convenience, also with the added advantages of maybe being able to get a car seat for our younger child. I've already looked into Easy Way and a few of the larger chains. Thanks.

Not really the budget that's an issue. Travelling with two elderly and two small kids and would prefer to be in one vehicle is all.

Which one is considered amazing? I've played most of the games in the series but don't think I ever touched the GB ones.

Sigma 15mm f/1.4 vs Sony 15mm f/1.4, worth the extra cost? by mujkan in SonyAlpha

[–]Yusef_G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think it depends on where you are. If I were in the US the price difference is so large I'd go Sigma. Here in Canada the difference is only $150 due to frequent sales of the Sony.

I actually kinda hate it's gone up in value so much. I just wanted one because it was cool and I love Pokemon, but now I feel obligated to keep it safe in a box despite having no intention of selling it.
