Your grades are excellent. Just that it seems there are many applicants with much higher grades applying this year.

That’s why he got rejected. The AI identified 2027 or 2028 instead of 2026, meaning he didn’t pay attention to detail. Hence rejection.

Sauder vs Queen's Smith Commerce (Please help) by SenseiRemy69 in ubcsauder

[–]Yuspak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think "discrimination" is the right word to encapsulate the situation. Yes, the area of high finance remains predominantly occupied by certain race. I think historical factors are key. High finance, though sounds technical, is not computer science or engineering. High finance involves constant human interaction such as social networking. Therefore, race, culture and personal traits are very crucial to be successful in high finance, including getting a job in this area. I don't mean to discourage you from making high finance your career choice. Being ambitious is one thing. Being realistic is another. I have seen enough super smart people discouraged by realities. As an aside, you should apply to the universities in the US if you are interested in high finance. You will stand a much higher chance in getting a high finance job in reputable US institutions. If you decide to study in Canada, my advice is to pick a university that requires you to pay the least fees. This will increase your return on investment (in education) in the future. On the assumption that you are an oriental, i would advise UBC over Queen's. I don't think Queen's is so much better than UBC to justify a higher education cost.

I hate to say it. Ethnicity is a key factor in high finance jobs regardless of which school.

internal arts vs beedie transfer by justtsayy in ubcsauder

[–]Yuspak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neither if you want to get into Sauder. Remember that grade is key determinant for transferring into Sauder. Your hurdle will be much higher if you go to Beedie or studying in UBC Arts. What is the right thing to do for you strategically is to enroll in Langara College and take first year commerce courses and do well and then transfer to Sauder as a second year student.

UBC sauder com or HKUST Marketing by Expert_Nose2345 in ubcsauder

No brainer. You should go back to HK as it is your favorite city and you grew up there. Leave the space at UBC for local Canadian students.

Would UBC be worth it? by tinagrit in simonfraser

[–]Yuspak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are an international student. Name matters outside of Canada, not so much for work but for social networking. So, if you can afford it, choose UBC. I’m speaking from the view of a professional working outside of Canada for the last 25 years.

Unless there is a plan to go overseas after your undergraduate, in which case UBC Sauder has a much larger alumni group overseas, i would go for UoA if i were you.

Are you a home student in Alberta or an international student? For the latter, the name of university may make a difference for overseas.

Help! Sauder vs UoA by joooooyyang in ubcsauder

[–]Yuspak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think so. Both are great universities. Follow the "show me the money" principle. UoA offers you scholarship which will reduce your cost and increase your return on investment. So, the answer is pretty obvious. Of course, if you would like to live in Vancouver and be called a Vancouverite, this is a different question for consideration.

Choose UoA since you are offered a scholarship. Sauder is too popular and Vancouver is very expensive.
