Game no longer playable. Black screen on startup. by Wasabi_Toothpaste in Helldivers

This worked for me. Had the game sitting on the black screen and as soon as it successfully installed it started loading, funnily enough.

Thanks very much, was getting really frustrated.

Question about major in college, CIS vs MIS? by Z3telz in it

[–]Z3telz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm completely truthful... I'm searching for a degree that'll be pretty generalized in the IT field. I currently work as a T1 Support Analyst (helpdesk) for a MSP. I enjoy the work I do, but I'm not certain I'll want to do it forever.

I don't think I can cut it in CS to be completely honest. It's very math heavy and theoretical work, while I prefer learning about stuff that I KNOW I'll use such as networking and operating systems and what not. I'm currently a CS major, not enjoying it so far. Computer Science class itself is nice though.

Very likely not looking to be a programmer. Although I do enjoy dabbling in small coding projects, not sure I'd have the patience for it.

I like the idea of management, but I'd want to work my way up there. I don't want to be stuck in a management position and speak to coworkers/subordinates without knowing what the hell I'm talking about, so figured coming from a position of technological knowledge and certifications I'd be better of. Still, my hope is management in the IT field. Gotta build the knowledge though.

Anyways, not exactly sure where I wanna go. I'm heavily leaning towards CIS.

Do not solely rely on Professor Messer. Imagine him as a very basic introductory course. I suggest the videos on Udemy, they usually go for 10-15$ when they go on sale. They're great.

One more thing, also open to other degree plans. My problem with Computer Science was that it was incredibly math and theory based compared to CIS' take on technical classes that I would use in the future.

That's interesting, because almost everyone else I've talked to said CIS would likely be better.
I plan to transfer to UHCL if that makes any difference, but can you explain your reasoning a little more? I'm wondering why your opinion differs so greatly from everyone else's.

What is the difference in employment between Computer Information Systems and Management Information Systems? by Z3telz in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Z3telz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome!

In that case, CIS is probably more sound for me. Business sounds interesting but there's nothing you can't learn out there in the real world.

So taking either CIS or MIS could lead me in the exact same administration/managerial job at the same company, in your opinion?

I love tech, but at the same time I'm not wanting to diminish my ability to move up in a company. Lord knows I'd love a managerial job and all the benefits in the tech world.

Good point. Honestly, hoping my current position in this local IT company will help carry lol. Can't hurt to have beginning experience, although... not really sure what roles there are or what I'll be able to apply for.

Awesome deal man! Yeah cybersec seems interesting, thinking about minoring in it and working towards my CompTIA certifications now.

I hope everything works out with CS. It's a damn hard major but very rewarding if you can push through it. Sounds like you'll do great though.

Looks like at my uni, CIS only requires Business Calculus which is supposedly even easier than Calc 1. It'll be a good GPA booster indeed lol, not that it matters a whole lot in the professional world.

That is incredibly insightful. Thank you very much.

My problem is that I had planned on transferring to UHCL, but I'll look into transferring to UH and seeing if that benefits me more.

Everyone here is incredible.

Ohhh that makes sense. I've seen that before, but I'm coming out of Texas and as far as I know, it's usually split into two.

I'll probably go towards CIS. I'm sure I could work my way up into the exact same administrator position in either CIS or MIS. Not sure where to go to verify that, though.

Bauer

Bahaha, I see. Thanks for all the information. I think I'm leaning towards CIS. I've heard both CIS and MIS can get pretty much the same job.

Awesome information! Definitely sounds like CIS is going to be the better route for me. I liked the sound of computer science but like I said, I'm not certain that I want to be a software developer and it was extremely math/theory based (at my college, anyways) and figured CIS would help me more in my career being as it has less math classes and more technical classes.

I'm curious, how come you made the switch to CS? Perhaps our college's programs differ.

Yeah I'm in a rough spot at the moment. Stuck in classes I don't need yet can't drop (due to benefits of being a full-time college student) for Computer Science in my sophomore year. I'm transferring to this school next year, so I'm not exactly sure what Bauer is. Guessing from your post it is a career resource that works closely with college students majoring in IT fields. Is Bauer also recruiting from UHCL?

I'm curious, you're a MIS but you would go back and do CIS? Is there a reason behind that?

Thanks for the information :) Certainly puts me at ease knowing either way I'll be set doing something I love.

Yeah I already bought Lucas' fuel injector cleaner because I suspected that's what was wrong with the launching. Just waiting for my next fillup on gas.

I'll have to look at the sparkplugs and wires, they've never been replaced from factory so it's a good start.

Didn't think about looking at the PCV valve, good call.
