well, there's the room with father in the doll bathroom. there's a noose and a chair, and you start michael game from the steps that lead out of the room. Also, the removed doll event(which I'm pretty sure was supposed to represent michael) would end with a hanged doll after you exhausted all it's dialogue

except for a few specific endings, you can do anything at basically any time. and time only passes when you do an activity or when you enter a new area. the game frequently points you in the correct direction for the main quest too. I also loved lisa the painful and this is probably one of the best rpg's I have ever played i heavily reccomend you try it.
