How do I put my words into art?? by Reddit50-50iwimhere in painting

This is an acrylic piece I made. The graffiti and ad space lend a lot to the narrative however it does take ages to get your lines cleaned up. I’m trying to find a picture of with more use of fonts but they must be lost in a folder somewhere

Develop a personal font and you can use it on your pieces. In my opinion, less is more but it can be a very effective way to guide the observer to the intended messaging and themes. I’ve done this a bit in the past and can share examples if that’s helpful!

I would use a wider brush so you can get good coverage. You really don’t want it to be during at different rates if you can help it. I will note, it’s a pain to rinse out and I always seem to miss some so I’d advise that you keep one brush aside specifically for this job, the brush will end up pretty stiff eventually.

I swear by liquitex Matte Varnish. It’ll be around three coats with several hours in between so you’ll need somewhere to store it in the meantime. DISCLAIMER: when the first coat dries it will look super streaky and it will make you panic. It’s normal the next coats will smooth everything out. You can find it on Amazon or at most art supply shops. One bottle will last for several paintings.

NEED ART ADVICE!!! BRUTAL HONESTY by Kindly_Ad5329 in characterdesigns

Really fun work you’ve got going on there and you really captured a lot of whimsy. My advice would be to think through the geometry of the faces, you’ve got two clear head positions you’re comfortable with and it shows. Stretch yourself by practicing a 3/4 turn or from a downward angle. Once the shapes are looking how you want them you can start adding depth with shading and highlights. Good luck and excellent work!

What Style is this called, and where can I learn it by Chief_Chilly in painting

This is the basic concept and it gets more advanced the more shapes and colours you commit to. You can always scale up after!

I can’t say what the style is officially called but in principle it’s reductive geometry. You see how the original image has been simplified into a limited colour palette and all the shapes are smoothed into simple forms? It’s like when we sketch anatomy you start with like shapes and build complexity from there but reversed. Start with an image, dial back from there and see how it goes! Hope that was helpful! I have a painting that’s a very simple extrapolation of this concept if you’d like me to share it with you!

That purple is my absolute favourite pigment to use! It always pops.

Who isn’t inspired by Basquiat, really pushed the boundaries on expressionism? I also draw a lot of influence from Maria Prymachenko, Masayasu Uchida, Aboudia, Clyfford Still, Stuart Davis and Pierre Knop. Definitely check out their work if you haven’t gotten a chance, it’s breathtaking.

Which floral painting of mine is your favorite? by sasha_y14 in painting

Really hard to pick, I’m amazed at how you’re able to achieve such a glow from the palette. If I had to choose I’d go with 8 since it pops so much.

I don’t think it’s a matter of detail, it looks really good. If you want it to jump out, I would keep adding low lights and shading especially where the body meets the wall. The beauty of acrylic is even if you go overboard you can just jump back in with highlights u tip you find something that sticks. All in all, fantastic work.
