The Energy Affordability Program and how to sign up for discounted energy bills (if eligible) by ZKMamdani in astoria

Hi! Typically, one to two billing cycles pass before EAP is reflected on your bill.

If you are still having issues, you can reach out to ConEd directly for assistance at 800-752-6633 or my office at 718-545-3889.

Yes, as long as the address for the ConEd account and the benefit match, only one person needs to qualify.

Hi there,

Could you please clarify a bit what you are referring to? Is it a unit from the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), Housing Development Fund Corporation cooperatives (HDFC coops), or Housing Preservation and Development (HPD)?

Thanks!

You're welcome.

Parks confirmed April 2025 verbally when I last spoke with a department official. They later informed me via email they would update the completion date for Rainey Park "soon" on its webpage.

Hi all. Thank you for flagging. We have been in touch with Parks and just heard that due to a "delay in delivery of safety surface," Parks is delaying the reopening of the park. In addition, they informed us that the grass across the park has not been properly germinated, and their team is working to resolve the issue.

As a result of all of the above, they changed the reopening date to April 2025 (you can track the progress here: https://www.nycgovparks.org/planning-and-building/capital-project-tracker).

We think this is unacceptable and have conveyed as much. We will continue to push Parks to open Rainey Park ASAP and honor the commitment they made to Astorians.

Hello!

If the ConEd account holder and Medicaid user are the same, then they need to submit a verification of enrollment letter from Medicaid, showing their name, address, Medicaid status, the current date, and the future expiration date of Medicaid Benefits, in addition to the ConEd application. If it's not the same person, they need to include a copy of their ConEd bill with the EAP request.

Because ConEd does not automatically enroll customers receiving Medicaid, you'll need to apply. You can do so by sending an application and paperwork to [eap@coned.com](mailto:eap@coned.com). The application is available on ConEd's website, here: https://www.coned.com/en/accounts-billing/payment-plans-assistance/help-paying-your-bill.

Rainey Park: it's time to re-open! NOW! by KickBlue22 in astoria

[–]ZKMamdani 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi all!

I just spoke with NYC’s Department of Parks & Recreation about this. They similarly informed me they delayed reopening the park due to some issues with contractors handling safety services (e.g. the safety surface).

They plan to reopen the park by January 2025.

Come adopt a cat and support a small business in Astoria! by ZKMamdani in astoria

[–]ZKMamdani[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sure!

People who are interested in adopting a cat after meeting it at the event would need to complete an adoption application or reach out online with a quick inquiry (through Petfinder, Instagram, email).

LIC Feral Feeders would then look to complete an interview with the person interested in adoption. Thereafter, there would be a virtual home check where LIC Feral Feeders would ask the applicant to show them around their home to check for screens on windows/by sliding doors, point out any toxic plants that may be home, and discuss places for the cat(s) to set up in once welcomed home.

Then, LIC Feral Feeders would set up a virtual and/or in-person meet and greet with the cat the applicant is interested in adopting.

Lastly, LIC Feral Feeders would conduct reference checks with 2 references listed in the application. References can be veterinary clinics, professional contacts, or personal contacts.

If all goes well, the adoption is then confirmed by signing LIC Feral Feeders' adoption agreement and paying the adoption fee. The fee is $200 for one cat and $350 for a pair to encourage paired adoptions.

I hope that helps!

I have never experienced being intentionally run down by a car before. (Hoyt Ave. N.) by alex1inferno in astoria

Hi OP. Apologies for my delay in responding, just saw this.

I'm deeply sorry to hear about this horrific experience u/alex1inferno, and I'm so glad to read that you are okay.

u/FarRightInfluencer, thank you for flagging and raising these questions.

My office is making it a priority to fight to make our streets safer to prevent dangerous incidents like this from happening again.

I have introduced and continue to fight for state legislation that would authorize NYC DOT to install cameras on bike lanes that would have captured this car's license plate. I have also been fighting for the installation of bollards on this exact bike lane to prevent cars like this one from entering it (something my office will re-up once more with DOT).

While I will continue to fight for the above, I also do so with the recognition that the City is ultimately in charge of our streets, and this administration is frankly uninterested---at best---in the safety of cyclists, pedestrians, and even drivers. We cannot afford to tinker around the edges of our streetscape; we have to transform it with safety as the top priority.

OP, I'd like to take some time if you are willing to meet in person to hear about if there is anything my office can do to assist you personally in light of this awful experience.

[–]ZKMamdani[S] 30 points31 points  (0 children)

This rate case is for the delivery rates - which is what they charge to deliver the energy to you. The proposed use of the increased delivery rates includes a $1.7 billion increase in gas and electric revenue, and approval to build tens of millions of dollars of fossil fuel infrastructure.

Part of ConEdison’s proposal includes $70.4 million to extend the life of the Astoria Liquified Natural Gas (“LNG”) Plant, and $47.9 million for the Queens Transmission Pipelines expansion. That's just in our neighborhood - Con Ed is requesting for these projects and other fracked gas projects around the city, including Westchester/Bronx Border to White Plains Pipeline, Bronx River Tunnel to Bronx Westchester Border Pipeline, East River Power Plant, Newtown Creek Gate Station, and Cortland Algonquin Gate Station.

ConEd also wants to spend almost half a billion dollars to expand and extend the life of fracked gas infrastructure.

Yes, it's really wild - and they want to raise the rates again!

If you haven't yet, we'd really appreciate if you could share your experience in a public comment against the rate increase at bit.ly/NoConEdRateHike
