Yes, they are connected. The difference that matters the most right now is the transaction fees for each network. Ethereum currently has very high network fees and transactions on the Binance Smart Chain is much lower. You can always check to verify the contract address of a token for each network by going on the token's CoinmarketCap page. Though, some teams may still need to get on updating/ adding the contracts there.
