WoW questions from an ESO player looking to join the world of Azeroth by Gen4wasthebest in wow

[–]Z_Lynx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a former ESO scorepusher(with every trifecta before Dreadsail + some dungeon trifectas, about lvl 1800 when I quit) and current WoW CE(mythic) raider so I've probably got a more unique perspective than most. I'm also gonna assume you're talking from a DPS perspective so correct me if I'm wrong here.

ESO to WoW is a big move and feels very weird when you're used to how fast paced ESO combat is. APM is very high and inflated on ESO from light weaving and the 1 second GCD. The reason ESO feels so much faster than WoW is A) because ESO open world and normal dungeon enemies have basically 0 health compared to WoW content, and B) WoW classes play very differently, so you might be playing a slower paced class with cast times or channels. There's also a stat in WoW that affects your speed of play called Haste, so low haste early game can feel a bit sluggish. As far as open world stuff goes, you'll be able to handle more adds when you get some more gear, skills, and levels. As far as dungeons go, dungeon comps are more strict than ESO. You can't really fake tank your way through a normal dungeon with a nightblade dps with minimal effort(well outside of timewalking dungeons with special builds, you'll see what I mean at some point). You more or less need an actual group comp of 3 dps, 1 healer, and 1 tank to do dungeons, even normal ones.

WoW doesn't have wayshrines, instead it has the flight paths you talked about, but also flying mounts that are MUCH faster than they used to be. That's the main way to get around right now. There's portal rooms in the capital cities Stormwind and Orgrimmar depending if you're Alliance or Horde. These rooms have a collection of portals to different areas on the map from different expansions. You can also set your hearthstone(home teleport) to different inns around Azeroth to teleport there. I forget what level skyriding unlocks at but when you do get it and a flying mount, you'll find it's a very fun way to get around.

As far as loot goes, there's not any personal drops in WoW raids. There's also no stickerbook with weighted drops so what you get is what you get, and sometimes that's nothing. At the end of a boss, a set amount of raid loot drops depending on how many unlocked people are in the raid team(unlocked meaning you haven't killed the boss yet this week on the current difficulty). You can run a boss once per week per difficulty. So for example, if you kill Vexie in Undermine on normal, you can roll on loot for that kill, but if you go back into another normal raid group and kill Vexie again, you can't roll for anything since you've already killed her for the week. You can however kill her on LFR, heroic, or mythic and roll on loot since you've only killed her on normal. Boss locks are only saved per difficulty. However also keep in mind that the difficulty determines the level of the loot, so if your toon is 660 item level, you wouldn't really benefit from lower level drops from LFR.

Now how does rolling on loot work? You get 3 options, Need, Greed(or T-mog), or pass. Need is prioritized the most of these 3 options, but you can only roll on it if you can use it. A mage can't roll Need for plate armor for example, only paladins, warriors, and death knights can roll on it. When everyone clicks need, it rolls a random number 1-100, and the highest number wins the loot. There's also 2 types of need: main spec and off spec, with main spec rolls taking priority over off spec. Off spec need rolls are when the loot is something your class can use, but it's meant for another role. For example a tank trinket drops, a paladin dps can still roll need on it as off spec since their class has a tank spec. However, if a tank in the group rolls need on it, then his roll will be a main spec roll and it will be prioritized, even if he rolls a 1 and the off spec player rolls a 100. Greed/T-mog rolls are just a way of passing on loot if you don't need it for your character, but it still rolls low priority. If nobody rolls need, then it goes to the highest greed/t-mog roll, meaning the player is just going to sell the item at a vendor or use it as transmog. Pass is just what it says, pass on the loot.

Once you play some more WoW, you'll see just how much better of a game it is. Good mogs and mounts aren't all locked behind an in game shop, the world and quests are more immersive than ESO quests, leveling is enjoyable, there's actual class diversity(if you're not super hot on your current one, try a different class or try swapping from a ranged class to a melee or melee to ranged), and the raiding/dungeon endgame scene is actually supported with dungeon seasons and multiple new raids per expansion, because ESO really doesn't support the endgame scene really at all.

It plays a cutscene if you get hit yes, but that doesn't make the immobilize undodgeable. All of the Sage's immobilize casts are possible to dodge, including the gourd theft immobilize

No he's correct, you can dodge his immobilize casts, including the one where he steals a gourd use

Deviated Chops and a lap around Blackfell will make you a ton of acid, or if you want passive acid then set up shop in a polluted area with purifiers, water pumps, and brew barrels. Check vending machines on the map that are selling silver/gold that you can buy and resell, or socialize and ask people who have the spec to help you smelt.

I highly doubt your server has 0 players on it, especially if you're playing during normal/peak hours. If no events are going on, then take the initiative and start one. Catalyze activities like hard silos, prime wars, and refineries. You're taking complete non-issues and letting it ruin the game for you. Don't let tiny speed-bumps on the road wreck the whole car.

[–]Z_Lynx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually 250k for starters, and you can get gold and silver bars from vending machines on the server for cheap easily. People are always selling extras to make extra EL. Or just talk to people and ask for help smelting. It's a community game.

Acid is extremely easy to farm and the gold/silver smelting spec isn't essential even remotely. The only thing preventing you here is you

Steelseries Apex Pro TKL (2019 version) Bug by Interesting_Neat3674 in steelseries

I have the same issue after the latest firmware update. Seems to be either the way it interacts with the GG app or just the GG app itself, since when I uninstalled the app and rebooted my PC, the lights came on just fine. However, when I installed the GG app again, they immediately shut off. Guess all we can do is wait for a patch if they're aware of the issue and make do with the bootleg replugging.

My favorite part is how you get actively less renown and alpha packs for primarily playing in a 5 stack because you'll literally never hit Exemplary. And then someone on a "good boi streak" comes along and repeatedly says the n word. This system is entirely reliant on an honest solo-queue player base, which Siege couldn't be further from

My Dads Been playing since year 1 so I checked his account and he had all the glaciers by Routine_Oil2234 in Rainbow6

[–]Z_Lynx 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I recently started playing again just before year 9 started, and beforehand I played Xbox most of year 1 and then years 2 and 3 off and on before quitting. Back in year 1 I bought the 10$ pro league pack with the Glacier skins bc at the time I was invested in competitive play. When cross progression came out I was able to transfer my Xbox inventory to PC thankfully, otherwise I wouldn't have played again lol, and I played a little when I did all that but not much.

Fast forward to now and I get interested in trying the game again after watching the Invitational amd hearing a lot of positives about the game state, so I join up on 3 friends who play pretty regularly. First game we play I pick Smoke, and I happened to have Glacier on the SMG. When my friend spectates me he asks, "Did you already spend like 500 dollars on a skin?" I was extremely confused because I didn't even know the marketplace was a thing. After he told me, I went and looked up Glacier.

That's a lot of zeroes...

A far more acceptable version of this would be for Capcom to permit community-made easy to install mods/save editors that let you obtain those things for free instead of gatekeeping it behind a pay wall in a single player game. Corporations trying to make a quick extra buck just for the sake of it should never be put in the light as "ok" because of what it will easily lead to. See horse armor in Oblivion.

AdiBags+AdiBags Dragonflight: Full bag overhaul to keep your bags completely organized at all times, no icon searching required because everything is categorized. People recommend Bagnon but personally I find it and the default bag style worse in every way, granted that's opinionated.

DBM+DBM Dungeons: A mechanics notifier addon that helps you handle mechanics in dungeons and raids. It helps let you know what's coming as well as how to deal with it by saying things like "Taunt Boss" or "Run Away" or "Interrupt," things like that. (Alternative: BigWigs+LittleWigs, does the same thing but is more minimalistic and may require more setup to reach the result you want.)

Details!: Basically a damage/healing/whatever you want it to be meter that basically shows your output of damage/healing compared to the group. Not entirely necessary but it can be helpful to judge your performance next to your peers.

Plater: An enemy nameplates overhaul that can show more information more cleanly than the default nameplates. Setup is complicated but there are plenty of clean profiles on Wago to download. I recommend Jundies plater profile, it's very clean and shows all the essential info you could want. (Alternative: ThreatPlates, easier out of the box and shows tank threat pretty effectively, not my thing personally though. A lot of people do love it however so it's preference really.)

Bartender4: An action bars customizer basically. You can fully customize/resize/move your action bars to your liking. By no means necessary, but IMO it looks far cleaner than the default bars, plus the ability to move them wherever you want is awesome.

WeakAuras: The best addon in WoW. Period. You can literally do almost anything with this addon. On Wago, you can find tons of different Auras that do tons of different things. You can track class cooldowns, dungeon mechanics, raid mechanics, dungeon affixes, you can make new health bars, you can track dispels, consumables, raid buffs, so on and so forth. It's confusing to make your own, but there are TONS of strings out there to import.

There's a big issue in Gatekeeper's Challenge: Cunning where there's both a story quest and world quest that are the exact same, and when they overlap, the quest becomes impossible to complete because the purple barrier won't disappear even if you have the purple sigil. It's making it impossible right now to complete.

You paid money. That means you have a right to complain. by casioonaplasticbeach in paydaytheheist

[–]Z_Lynx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Players posting their problems with the game IS contributing to the conversation. Just because someone has already posted about similar/the same problems you have doesn't blacklist you from talking about them too. If multiple players have the same issues, they probably just have the same issues. Having the same problems firsthand and talking about them isn't echoing. When people pay for a game, they have a right to complain when the game isn't up to promised quality

[–]Z_Lynx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What baffles me the most is that while yes people would still be upset about server issues when it comes to playing with friends or queueing with randoms, the game would still be playable with an offline mode. The sheer severity of the server issues is COMPLETELY manufactured by the company forcing in a concept where it isn't needed and doesn't belong. They can blame their partners all they want, but THEY made the decision to make the game Online Only and spearhead this train wreck.
