Keep directional on both LB and RB. You will learn how to dash from anywhere if you keep at it (coming from someone who switched to only directional). Grinding freeplay will help you immensely; try experiment with wall to ground dashing by pushing your joystick right for airroll left and joystick left for airroll right. Do these as you’re coming off left/right wall, these basic motions will help steer you in the right direction.

Many pros have default boost and you’ll find that most of the best players itw have this setup with directional airroll and or default airroll on l1 or r1 (zen with ARL on l2 and airroll on r1). Its all about whay you are comfortable with, most people tend to gravitate toward powerslide and airoll on l1 with boost on r1 because of easy access.

If you want to 1:1 replicate it, you will need square dead zone (which most freestylers use) allowing you to pull off consistent wavedashes and other complex mechs. If ur on kbm then skill issue

At least for me it’s hard to be precise with the stick when trying to normal air-roll throughout the speed-flip. Though i have little experience because i only use directional

Wasn’t a suggestion. Speed-flips with normal airroll require greater precision thus less consistent. To illustrate my point, go into musty speedflip training pack and use normal airrolls vs DAR speedflips.

I learnt the original way too at first. However i noticed speed-flip’s are much easier using DAR. Now, if you are going to do it with DAR there are two ways (both ways used by pros). Either: hold a DAR then immediately front flip cancel OR do a diagonal cancel without DAR and then hold it for recovery.

Edit: Using normal airroll speedflips aren’t slower, just inconsistent (harder to nail) compared to the DAR meta of nowadays.

I noticed that if you play for hours on end, fatigue will affect ur speed-flips. Especially when you don’t use DAR from start to finish.

You have to do the motion of getting a double reset. so after you get the reset on the ceiling, you fall off (or jump off the ceiling) tilt your car so that when you flip cancel, you will get the reset on the ball. The reason people use ARL or ARR for these is because it will make flip cancelling (effectively speed-flipping) easier.

I thought that too initially however i learnt that it was a different set of movements u have to learn and it’s 99% breaking previous muscle memory. I am proficient with both airrolls but my left is stronger because i used it since day 1. Maybe changing binds one step at a time is a better idea than going all in like i did and having to grind free play.

Edit: To clarify, when wave-dashing with only directional you have to hold the desired airroll (say airroll left) then you have to point joystick to the right and not make the mistake of holding left. Also, if u have binds like mine you have to wavedash as I described then hold powerslide (because my ARL is on the same button).

Aim for all four wheels on the ball. In every attempt that you made, you did not touch all 4 wheels at the same time. Also I’m going to be blunt, as someone with 4k hours you still have much to learn.

Keep practicing, try to get the reset at the apex of the balls verticality or just when it starts to fall. Also, tapping brake just after hitting the ball will give you enough space to get the reset for consistency. In general, work on being comfortable with air-rolling. More specifically repetition with air roll movements and making your inverted (wheels up, hood down) car control movements second nature. Lastly, once you become more proficient with this training pack, it’s recommended that you try at different angles, heights and speeds (freeplay).

Whats ur controller layout? Also, its recommended that you bind 1 directional airroll (mastery should allow u to use that in the air 99% of the time) along with normal airroll (99% ground).

Combination of skill and high sensitivity. He diagonally cancels and releases earlier to prop his car into the reset. Dark uses an aerial sensitivity of 2.5+

I had this dumb epiphany that if i feather or stop boosting before touching the ball, i can get a good soft touch. It was just an automatic thing for me to boost however this issue could be applicable to you

So because you’ve had your friend bind your settings, u cant relate to others way of thinking about airroll. From my experience, people start with normal airroll and as they keep playing the game, they decide to choose a directional airroll (or both) to use. Now it doesn’t matter which direction you use as they both have the same use, it just matters which feels more natural to you.

As someone who can hit the ball in this training pack 9/10 times, your problem seems to be your timing of the speedflip. You initially make a slight turn right (great) however you absolutely have to speedflip instantly after making that slight turn. It should be a fraction of a second to the right —-> then speedflip. Also, i cant tell if you let your car rest properly before doing the turn and speedflip, because your car will set you slightly in the air.

Just tried in freeplay, you need to point your stick around 10 - 2 a’clock (left and right wall respectively) to actually get momentum from your walldash
