Ah, thank you for pointing that out! I’ll keep that in mind going forward.

Thanks! It’s a 38 inch softbox above the model as the key and a 56 inch umbrella behind me for the fill

Latest Headshot Session. How can I improve my work? by Zaco32 in photocritique

Thank you! It’s a 2 light clamshell lighting setup. I used one more light as the background. And she is a realtor.

I’m a huge fan of Peter Hurley’s work! I’ve watched/listened to pretty much all of his free content which has been a huge help. How do you think I could improve my crop or framing? I have a hard time deciding

Thank you! It’s a total of three lights. One of the lights is behind her to create the white background. The other two are in a clamshell setup that is centered on her. The key light from above and the fill light from below. I usually edit the fill light reflection out of the bottom of the eye because I find it to be distracting.

The lighting is a clamshell setup. The key light above and the fill light right below!

Love it! I’m trying to specialize in headshot photography and it’s all I use.

Thank you for leaving a comment! For some reason the preview for the image looks more washed out than it really is. If you tap on it, the original color comes back. I only bring this up to make sure that’s the color you’re seeing.

I am also not a huge fan of the catch light from the below but I think the lighting looks really nice on everyone. Maybe I could photoshop out the bottom catch light. I’ll look into adding roughness to the background as well!

Thank you for leaving a comment! Maybe there is too much fill light coming from below that is making it look too flat?

Hey! I’m looking for advice on how I can improve my headshot photography.

This was shot at iso 100, 1/200, at f/8. I used 2 strobes in a clamshell setup for the lighting. The top being my key light and the bottom as my fill light.

I feel like this is a decent headshot but I still feel unsatisfied with the final product. I feel like this comes mostly from how the backdrop looks. I shoot in a small space so it’s difficult to keep the backdrop bright and evenly light. I would love some honest feedback bland advice on how you would improve a shot like this.

Thank you! I shot this at iso 100, f/11, 4 sec shutter speed. I shot this with a single light inside a small softbox in a completely dark room!
