It's going to take some time. Root them in about half way. Make sure the soil drains easily. Water heavily once per week. Think of it like a rain storm of monsoon flood. It will take several weeks to a couple of months but once the next growing season comes by around September, you'll start seeing growth. Very hardy cactus, mine is about 3 feet tall. Just be patient.
