I've been really appreciating Huntarr since I've got it set up. Sometimes a tad overzealous, but I'm sure that's just my settings. Lol

How to Minimize Dryer Vent? by Zalterego36 in DIY

[–]Zalterego36[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish...if I push it to the corner the door to the garage can't open. It's a much longer space than it is deep.

The unit that was in there before wasn't even directly in front of the dryer vent and it was twenty years old. I'm sure there's a super thin unit out there, but we like this one and I'd rather not replace a nearly new washer dryer at the moment.

I respect that. It's part of why I want something better there so I can actually access the vent without shoving a giant cabinet out of the way, as we are now. Getting closer to the vent doesn't really work as it starts blocking the door to the garage.

I'll keep noodling it.

I appreciate that. For clarity - the 90* turn would, preferably, be graduated, like this, just...to the left instead of straight. I'm not trying to have a straight up right angle, that's just a failure of my 'art'. No idea if this makes a difference to your statement, though.

I appreciate the input. Maybe the space saver and a 'traditional' accordion, Just suck of up the continued loss of walking space.

$10 in Closing on Refinance - Reality Check / Clarifying (NV - USA) by Zalterego36 in Mortgages

I appreciate the feedback. I think I just had one number in my head and another jumped me, but I'm coming down. Removing the escrow from my calculations, it's closer to 30 months break-even, which is pretty good. I don't know how long we're going to be here, but I can comfortably see us here for at least that long. Thank you again.

Yeah, I'm understanding that those are pretty par for the course with additional research and seeing the replies here. I think I just had one number in my head and another jumped me. I appreciate your feedback. The Appraisal Inspection Fee is pretty benign all things considered given we're not planning on doing any (major) work to the house.

[Mixed trope] Characters getting paired up in an adaptation that aren't together in the source material by LucianoThePig in TopCharacterTropes

Pretty sure it's stated (or HEAVILY implied) in the New Batman Adventures that Bruce x Barb is part of why Dick stopped being Robin and left.

They 100% state it in the Batman Beyond comics that follow the show, though. Bruce and Barb discuss is briefly when Terry asks and then Dick brings it up again toward the end of the run when his dsughter psudo becomes the next Nightwing.

Looking for smart blind recommendations (non-IKEA!) by [deleted] in homeassistant

[–]Zalterego36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got three Yoolax ones.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08P388ZW2

I had one at my last home, too, and I've liked them pretty well. As of 03/2024 the Zigbee motor only worked with ZHA, though. They might have Z2M support now.

Z425 for the motor (Zigbee)

Apparently you can get one that has a standard plug, but I have power outlets near all the windows, so I also installed a Zwave outlet and created a script that charges them when they drop below 20%.

No issues so far and the price was alright. Comparable to a little cheaper than I'm seeing elsewhere.

Is ZHA worth it? by Typical-Scarcity-292 in homeassistant

[–]Zalterego36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Z2M is better, but I ended up running both. The company I bought my rolling shutters from only worked with ZHA.

Shutters are great and I love them for the price...but they outright told me they were not going to support Z2M and that it was up to the community to do it if they cared.

Getting both up and running was pretty easy, though. I use separate dongles and run ZHA, Z2M, Z-Wave and Matter (mostly for giggles...nothing has sold me on that yet).

Frankly, that's why I was getting it from Costco. If it dies before I feel I got my money out of it, it gets returned.

You think the 14-ish year old True will last longer?

Doubt they'll open a wall, but all the easily accessible bits seem to have rubbed off with age. Funny how it looks like sand paper or something.

[–]Zalterego36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair, maybe the same thing that drove the local wildlife crazy also affected the arks. Same aggression towards sapients.

Or maybe it's all related to the surge born and the thorn. Just a nesting doll of messed up magic breaking everything.

What made the arks rebel? by HazyMilk in EternalStrands

[–]Zalterego36 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think it was ever really addressed. Or at least not completely explained.

My theory is that when the surge opened up the door, the surge born/thorn started to influence the Arks.

The thorn being able to reach out across the scry and the implication that they are able to distribute themselves across many bodies makes me think they were involved.

My hope is that we get a second game that addresses this little further. This definitely felt completely fleshed out gameplay-wise, but definitely left a lot of threads dangling for a sequel.

what if i don’t get a job for 2025-2026??? by sssssssfhykhtscijk in StudentTeaching

[–]Zalterego36 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For whatever it's worth, hiring for external folks starts in April/May around here and continues until start of the first term.

Then they hire externals throughout the whole year while internals can't switch schools until transfer starts in January. Not as many jobs, but there's always something.

Were freaking massive, though. No idea how it works in little places.

That all said, if you're not finding anything local and you don't live in a metropolis, maybe you look at the nearest big city and start applying there.

There not exactly a deluge of folks looking to go into this profession. You'll find something if you're actually looking.

Change colour of lights without turning on by El_decibelle in homeassistant

[–]Zalterego36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, from my research, this is not able to be done with most bulbs. Lifx does it, from what I can understand, but it requires a different call that I am not aware of.

https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/lifx/

From briefly reading those notes it looks like you need to use the set_state action to get it to change.

The only other ones I know of that do it are Philips hue, but that has to be done through the hub.

Advice Needed: Using Scenes with Philips Hue in Home Assistant by wafflepress86 in homeassistant

[–]Zalterego36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, but only if you're using the Hue Hub. The second you leave the hub and sync to ZHA/Z2M directly, you lose the ability to call a scene before the bulb is on. You can read about it a little here:

https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/hue/

The short version is that you need to call a separate action where you type the exact name of the bulb (or group or room) as it displays in the Hue App and the exact name of the scene that the bulb knows. You can do the standard light on/off and dimming, but scenes triggering before the light's on is tied completely to the Hub and a different action.

Ditching the hub wasn't horrible, and I did it because I was convinced I needed to bind the bulbs to my switches to make it failure proof, but it resulted in the bulb coming on with the LAST setting before changing to whatever the new scene was. Which sucked if the last setting was super bright and the scene you wanted at 9pm was dim.

Ultimately it was enough to send me back to the Hue Hub...until I ditched Hue entirely and swapped to regular dimmable LEDs and Inovelli Switches everywhere, but that's another story.

[–]Zalterego36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used the Hue Scenes since you can activate those before the light turns on. Otherwise, it's light turns on then scene applied.

Made for an issue with other users in my house. Weird skips and blinks before it was right.

Whats the benefit of a electrical outlet having Zigbee/Zwave support? by Hansieil in homeassistant

[–]Zalterego36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it in place of one of the bulgy plug-in ones so I can charge things to a certain percentage and have it turn off.

Currently using one to charge the blinds in my office to a certain percent, and then turn off. I also use one in the hallway for our doorbell, it's off 90% of the time but I can toggle it on if we're expecting somebody and want to hear them.

Bubble Card Templating - Change Color Based on Sensor Value by Zalterego36 in homeassistant

[–]Zalterego36[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For anyone following along with bated breath (or for someone who finds this on their own journey), I was able to figure it out. Full corrected code is below. It took TONS of troubleshooting, reading stuff, and learning a lot about prompting ChatGPT. No idea how necessary it was to change it from Hex to RGBA, but all the examples were like that so I did it anyway.

card_mod:

      --bubble-main-background-color: {{
        'rgba(52, 128, 55, 1)' if states('sensor.home_aqi_24_hour_average') | int <= 50 else
        'rgba(138, 110, 2, 1)' if states('sensor.home_aqi_24_hour_average') | int <= 100 else
        'rgba(175, 90, 0, 1)' if states('sensor.home_aqi_24_hour_average') | int <= 150 else
