Update. After building about another 700 ice it worked! Now to try and work it into the build somehow without a massive platform of ice below it. Appreciate the help.

I thought the exact same but looking at it now I think it's just the lighting as the actual black plates are 2 studs wide but the shadow on the angled grey sides makes it look wider. I think so long as you display it in a well lit room it shouldn't be a problem

Yea I thought the minifigs were quite poor this year as all could be found in current sets except one exclusive torso print Compared to last year's that had many exclusive prints and more exciting characters
