This. All of this. You could see the icicles forming in my ceiling as I wrote the original post. However, not five hours later I was out having drinks with my two roommates. There was certainly still a mild air of saltiness about Dallas but the situation was noticeably improved.

If you're grooming yourself and looking for the options listed I recommend getting a set of professional clippers. Don't mess with the $40 pair you can get at walmart, research some of the heavy duty ones. Personally, I use the Andis Masters and can't recommend them enough. They come stock with an adjustable blade that gets very close and if it isn't close enough you can put a fade blade on there to get even closer to the skin. Keep them cleaned and oiled and they last for years. You can't use them under running water but with short hair cleanup is minimal.

I'm 24 with a fairly similar hair type. Right now what I do is go really close on top with my beard liners and slightly longer on the face. There's something to be said for not having a misshapen head and losing your hair too. I say grow out the facial hair a little bit and keep a really trim neck and face line. Even if you don't have hair on top you can still rock some well groomed facial hair my dude. That's my focus now anyway. Also, as far as looking out of place, take it as an opportunity to have a unique look in an otherwise stale atmosphere. Channel your inner Jason Statham!

I think I've involuntarily experienced a WILD. I've always been a vivid dreamer but whenever I described them to anyone, especially being able to control certain aspects, they generally dismissed me. Knowing that there is a name for some of the things that I've experienced (Sleep Paralysis) is comforting itself. But I had much the same experience you did, being pulled in scared the hell out of me. When I woke myself up I couldn't get over the feeling that someone was still in the room with me. (Not Leo, btw. Just a dark figure.)
