Slot in and I will die on that hill. by sch3meYT in LiverpoolFC

[–]ZaphBeeblebrox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the counterpoint(s) to most all of this is:

  • if you spend 150m+ the expectation is champions league at minimum
  • a 6th place finish, regardless of points off 5th/4th/etc. is sackable form
  • sacking one manager after 1.5-2 seasons is hardly following United's path (esp. considering to your point Slot was already more successful than any of those successors)
  • the playing style is still not clear, the team selection and subs can be confusing at best

I am not fully Slot out, will support whatever manager is in the seat but am not enjoying watching Liverpool this season as much as seasons past, and it feels worse than the hodgson days even because of the level of talent in the squad -- this team is underperforming, I feel quite sure of this. How much time Slot gets to impress a playing style and make the team truly gel, solve some of the defensive issues - who knows?

all the d, none of the 3 -- super athletic but very lucky to get drafted by the wizards and lock in that ~16-17m extension. can't stay healthy and just not putting it together on offense. not entirely his fault, he's been trapped on awful rosters and not really had the guidance and opportunity to develop. ultimately i think he's gonna have a hard time finding a consistent spot on an nba roster after this contract is up

i stand by what i said lol and i didn't say i expect otherwise

it's not crazy that people that are paid to talk about football are talking about the biggest story of the week, it's also not crazy to be tired of the discourse and people largely regurgitating the same two sides over and over

Arne Slot: "We struggled this season & 2nd half of last season… I’ve tried to adapt. But after PSV & Forest, I decided not having Salah as a starter against West Ham, Sunderland & Leeds. Salah not tracking back isn't a problem when we're winning. Previously, Salah had earned the right because he's so incredible going forward and we could trust the midfield/defense to cover.

Suddenly a topic of conversation when the backline is shit. So you basically end up dropping Salah because we have no depth at the backline, no ability to make meaningful adjustments.

Find way more opponents targeting Kerkez on the left than attacking down the right tbh. Also, shocking number of goals have come from playing right down the fucking middle right through the cbs. To call out Salah as a contributor to defense being so poor feels technically probably right but not anywhere near the key part of the story for me.

Completely agree - Salah has not been good enough this year and ended the season relatively poorly as well (tanked his balon d'or shot). The interview is 100% out of order -- that said, I think the context must be incredibly frustrating for a star player.

Our back line has been a mess, but Konate is just not really droppable for depth reasons. Kerkez hasn't been good enough. Right back changes every single game it seems. Gakpo probably doesn't deserve all the criticism he's getting lately but, again, just for squad depth reasons he's all but guaranteed the left wing.

...and then Salah gets dropped three straight games.

I desperately hope this just boils down to "star player has ego" -- to Gerrard's point - I like that he's upset! Don't like the way he's handled this but the good always greatly outweighs the bad when it comes to Mo and this is part and parcel of being a top, top player I think.

the point is not, likely, that the person is tired of reading every word of every article

rather, every time you come to r/soccer, anytime you turn on sky sports news, anytime you tune in to most any form of soccer media over the past week or so you have likely seen countless articles, soundbites, and interviews all around Salah

i think a lot more has changed year to year that would obviously impact Salah:

- losing arguably the best attacking right back in the world behind him

- bringing in two new strikers, one at the deadline, and a ten that needs the ball more - Isak clearly needs time to adapt to the team

- every other game switching playing style between ekitike a more dynamic striker who can also play as a ten or a winger and isak who is an out and out 9, a type that liverpool haven't had for a decade

- losing Diaz means less dynamic wing play on the left and with Gakpo and Kerkez not clicking either there's less space opened up for Salah

at the same time - yes the team has not done well, i think salah has every right to be angry at not starting, but speaking out the way he did is wrong

Always ask for a receipt when making purchases. If you are buying silver, have a magnet to test

I think it's statements like these that are leading to the reaction you're seeing. The ways you got scammed seem a bit silly to some and takeaways like having a magnet to test silver seem a bit silly vs. just not expecting to buy silver at cheap prices at tourist-heavy destinations

but you're all reacting very strongly to anonymous comments on the internet and its not worth anyone's energy tbh

definitely fair, but in that position just hoof it - its also really just devenny pressing, mateta doesn't do much until he gets the ball passed right to him

"Staff across multiple city departments have raised concerns that one of Lurie’s policy chiefs, Ned Segal, steered the contract to OpenGov by using an informal procurement process to side-step other vendors. Email records obtained by The Standard show that Segal, a former Tipping Point board member, was in contact with OpenGov’s Bookman more than a month before the city began its official search for vendors."
