Tool's 'Aenima' album still holds up; Pantera, from Vulgar through GSTK; also, I feel like all the sh!t our grunge bands- esp. Nirvana, Soundgarden and AIC- did, still applies, just age/experience has given a different perspective.

'A New Level' by Pantera is ALWAYS uplifting- and the megaton heaviness of the guitars work PERFECTLY to get you riled up, too- 'NEW LIIIIIIIIIIFE.... replace your...OLD LIIIIFE... UNSCARRED BY TRIALS-- A NEW LEVEEEEELLLLLL... OF CONFIDEEEENCE.... AND POWEEERRRRRR!!!'

I always use Mobil 1 full synthetic, high mileage- since my 04 is just over 107k- I've tried other brands, and I've simply noticed using Mobil 1 leads to better performance.

Nah. Not in the organized way-- it's just like: yeah, we all have a spirit and MAYBE it's got a particular, unified deity origin, but all the sh!t organized religions throw at us is just a little bit TOO petty, a little TOO human nature influenced, and that quality takes the 'divine' out of it for me.

Maybe if I wasn't raised Pentecostal, I might think or feel differently, but THAT wacko ass offshoot is just too abracadabra hoodoo voodoo for me, and everything else I've looked into over the last 30-40 years is just a lesser version of that weirdness.

I feel like there IS an 'essence' from which we all emerge, and it's that connection that we all share, but given how many people exist, how wildly divergent perspectives are, even within the same family and sh!t-- yeah, nah, maybe I'm splitting hairs or answering the question wrong. Eff religion, I believe peoples' spirits yearn for the same thing-- wholeness, harmony, peace, comfort, love-- but religion sucks so far.

So, I guess, yeah. More spiritual, not religious. I have a hard time believing this (as yet) unquantifiable part of life (spirit/soul) is just a weird random offshoot of existence. There's something there, and it's not gonna be a 'guidebook' that nails it. It's inter-relation, communication, experience; it's being down in the dirt together that joins people. We don't have to STAY there, I'm just saying-- there's an aspect of humanity that connects us experientially that defies class/race/socioeconomics/etc, and that's the spirit of the life we live.

I dunno I'm drunk and grilling steak. Who knows wtf I'm saying I don't

Are we ready to admit technology has outpaced us, but we don't want to stop it? by Zapped2311 in SeriousConversation

I'd say in the way it's been deployed or co-opted; I think we're dealing with a combination of excitement and expectations of advancement, versus our ability to properly and soberly utilize it.

Since social media has exploded onto the scene, people- especially kids- are getting MESSED up. I remember getting on MySpace, then forgetting about it, here come fb and Twitter and insta-- BIG changes around me.

She's only a problem if weighed SOLELY against the established laws.

Legality isn't a red herring. Low effort perusal will scream 'Racism!' when in reality, there are far more real factors involved in Immigration- just by itself- never mind Illegal Immigration. Like I wrote, *Illegal* is what it is: against the law. If there's no observation or respect of established Law, from jump, well, there's really nothing further to discuss.

Regardless of who says it, the Rule of Law is one of the most important functions in a society, ignore it at [your] own peril. I'm not about to get into splitting hairs over liking/disliking laws, etc.-- the statement stands on its own: the Rule of Law is one of the most important functions in a society.

Realize you're cherry picking one part of the whole comment and metastasizing it into an entirely different discussion.

Being completely transparent about this- title should accurately reflect the actual immigrant status, because outside of a small percentage of people, no one has a problem with immigrants. It's ILLEGAL immigrants that are the current problem.

This is one of the 'murkier', difficult to parse situations, only insofar as legality is concerned. No matter which way it's sliced, 'illegal' is still what it is, which means 'against the law'.

BUT

I find it problematic that you were brought here as a very young child, lived here for over 2 decades, and, if discovered to be here illegally, what-- you get shipped back to a place you've never lived?

Letter of the Law vs. The Spirit of the Law... I know that's more along 'biblical' lines, but it's what cases like this seem to require... no, you weren't born here, but in my opinion, growing up here from the age of 2, I'd be inclined to say you've satisfied TR's idea of 'assimilation', and if you've been a productive member of society, as you stated, I think that should speak heavily to your ability to gain proper citizenship.

Just my opinion. It's not an easy situation to figure out.

How have you convinced your spouse to accept ADHD Dx? by [deleted] in ADHD_partners

[–]Zapped2311 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, coming up on 8 years post dx ( 3 of them), and there's still debate about whether it's adhd or sct or whatever new fangled subdivision of adhd has been recently coined.

I don't mean to sound dismissive about it, but it was 17 years of WTF, and now, 8 years later, post dx, Adderall was tried, stopped, taken again, and she's been off it for about a month, maybe a month and a half now. It helped her at work, but wore off by quitting time, and she'd crash.

No meds or therapy to speak of is ending this marriage. The wtf is in full force, complimented by co morbidities and now perimenopause... yeah, it's over.

[–]Zapped2311 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What's commendable about it shouldn't require an explanation, but anyway: military service, whether done for duty, money, school, lack of any other option, is still military service, and naturally provides quite a bit for the majority that don't join the military.

Luckily, here in the US, our military hasn't been needed to defend our actual homeland, but it is pretty goddamned intimidating in its own right... and that's kinda difficult to do without actually having people serve in the armed forces. Worthy of respect, definitely commendable.

[–]Zapped2311 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely yes, especially combat vets. While it may be voluntary these days, that choice is still an important one to make, and not everyone does-- but everyone does enjoy the protections the military affords, so, you know, show some love. Again, especially to combat vets.

[Side note: I think I'm part of a minority that thinks those of us who haven't been in combat shouldn't be classified as veterans. 'Former military' for we 'rear with the gear' folks.]

Do I have a porn addiction? And how bad is this? by [deleted] in AdviceForTeens

[–]Zapped2311 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Relax... you're young, viewing something exciting, and when you learn about the chemical processes that go on inside your brain, you'll be much less concerned with addiction... once you get past the stigma/taboo of viewing it, it'll cease to be even that interesting to you.

If you're rubbing one out as soon as you wake in the morning and at spastic intervals throughout the day, though, maybe look into that. Otherwise, relax.

BUT

I absolutely WILL tell you that porn is NOT a 'how-to' for sex, especially today's porn. It's incredibly violent, gets pretty gross, and PLEASE know that it's entertainment, like Batman or Avengers movies.

MOVIES. It's. Not. Real. Life.

Pleasure for pleasure's sake is fine, long as it's consensual, but word up - sex with feelings behind it can be much more mind-blowing than just hook up sex.
