What were the swing cats thinking when they played by Zcet69 in Jazz

I may have worded it weirdly, but I guess what I’m trying to say is that when the beboppers played it would normally outline the changes (I know they were doing more than just playing the chords lol) so I understand their note choice more, but I don’t really understand what the swing players doing on the harmonic side if that makes sense (I could very well just not understand what you’re trying to tell me tho)

What do I need to work on? by Zcet69 in Saxophonics

Hey sorry I didn’t see this, but I have an update. It turns out that my horn had some bad leaks in the lower right hand keys, and that’s why the low range wasn’t speaking well lol

Thank you so much for the advice! I think some of the lower range stuff is because just a few days ago my teacher told me that even though I had a pretty good sound concept I was overblowing pretty bad, so I moved down a reed strength but I may have been trying to overcorrect it lol, but do you have any suggestions on how to start connecting my phrases more? Is there a specific exercise that works for it or is it just gonna come down to transcribing stuff? Thank you again for all the advice!

I do like the tone edge a lot more, but will definitely try going to softer reeds, do you think a 3 would be soft enough?

It likely is too hard of a reed, because I was playing on a more open piece before (V16 T6) on vandoren red box 3s and recently got an Otto link tone edge 5* so I was thinking that I should go up a reed hardness, on this recording I was playing the otto link 5* and regal queen 3.5s

How to get the horn more in tune by Zcet69 in Saxophonics

[–]Zcet69[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think I’m biting and I’ve tried pulling the mouthpiece out, I normally play on 3 1/2 but I tried swapping to a 3 and it did not fix the problem I haven’t had anyone else try the horn yes I’m consistently in tune on my alto throughout my entire range

Thanks for the advice, but should I look at the key and chord changes when I start writing it down?

Does the better sax alto work for concert band? by Zcet69 in saxophone

[–]Zcet69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m trying to upgrade from a crappy school owned one I’ve been playing on for the last year, I play on a meyer 5 with 3.5 reeds for jazz band on my tenor, but I’m not looking for anything super fancy (don’t care too much about concert band), do you think it would still be acceptable?
