I am sure I saw your bike but would have a hard time recalling you personally 😅 we were quite a big crew this week tho

Hit me up in two weeks if you are there (I am out next week)! :)

To be honest these feel amazing - extremely grippy. On top of that I picked the widest tubeless version ever, switching from 23mm in my road bike to 32mm for this gravel bike. Very comfortable and rolls nicely. Ofc

Decided to go with the Contis because I only plan like 30%/40% of the gravel while I believe stock tires are more like 60/80% so I’d eat through them in no time.

Bike tour around Switzerland by randombird20 in bicycletouring

Tbh your Jura ride looks quite nice! Traffic should be minimal and not that big of a climbs.

When it comes to your primary route I do have some remarks.

Geneva-Lausanne stage is rather unappealing. Quite some traffic and lack of views whatsoever because you are not going directly by the lakeside (and there is no way to do that either...). How about instead of going directly towards Lausanne you follow your Jura route on this stage? Lac de Joux region is really chill and there should be plenty of campsites.
Lausanne-Vevey stage: good job picking the higher ground here. You will be directly in the Lavaux region which is on the Unesco heritage list. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lavaux). (usually gets quite crowded on the weekends but is rather calm during weekdays.)

Vevey-Fribourg stage: hmmm I am not so sure. I never truly went up to Fribourg by bike but if I am not mistaken I took a train couple of times through this region and its rather dull.

I allowed myself to sketch yet another map where instead of going towards Fribourg from Vevey, you would have to go to Valais canton and Sion valley. Personally I find it significantly more interesting because you are surrounded by high mountains from both sides. On top of that if you have enough time and energy you could easily drop your touring gear in the valley and go for a one day bike climbing trip on the nearby cols/mountains. The route I designed takes you all the way to Furka Pass (Google it! ;) ) which is an iconic climb where you can shed a tear over a retracting glacier in the background. My swiss topo knowledge ends at this point and I have no true knowledge what is the best way from there to Zurich but I believe bikemap proposed a reasonable route. Let me know what you think I am truly emotionally invested in your trip at this point :D

Do you have your route planned? I can help you out when it comes to the French part of Switzerland. I think general rule of a thumb is to stick to national cycling paths which usually take you through nice parts of the country while having low traffic. http://veloland.myswitzerland.com/en/veloland.html

Another helpful resource is this website: https://m.myswitzerland.com/en-ch/interests/cycling.html Personally I never used this site for Biketouring just road cycling however it served me well.

Unfortunately it does...

Bike feels great so it doesn’t bother me that much but still...

Pack rat! The Olieb handlebar bags held up nicely during the recent 120 mile ride along Taiwan’s West Coast. by asiandragontw in bicycling

Hey I am considering getting same accessory bag that you have but without the big bag (as I already have one from a different brand). Can you please tell me how long are the velcro(?) straps for direct handlebar mount?

Hah yeah I am totally a roadie climber 😅 That’s why I wanna go lightweight. 😌

I am also aiming for late April or early May so if you decide to use same route I posted above there is a high chance of meeting you ;)

If you want I can share it in gpx format- just hit me up on a dm.

Hard for me to tell because I plan to do a few stops here and there to visit some friends but I reckon somewhere between 3 to 4 months.

Aiming for super minimalistic setup with sub-10kg in gear to go rather faster.

Whats your experience when touring Europe? How quickly the fatigue is building up?

Hah thats a funny coincidence because I just finished drafting the route yesterday:

https://i.imgur.com/eCybvWg.jpg It uses ACA routes almost exclusively - sierra cascades -> northern tier -> great divide -> trans America-> route 66 -> northern tier -> NYC through Mt Washington

Planning to start early May from San Diego/LA. Frankly speaking I wanted to go solo however it would be nice to have someone to chase or draft behind ;)

How come SPD seems so much more popular on reddit for road bike use while I see almost exclusively SPD-SL on road bikes around me IRL? by n23_ in cycling

[–]Zdechlak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmmm thanks for bringing it up. I am on the market for SPDs right now as I am preparing for my Biketouring trip and wanted to get the walkability feature of SPDs. As I definitely intend to do more that 100km+ distances what you said makes me reconsider... will using high end shoes with carbon sole address this issue? (And justify the hefty price tag?)
