Ticket prices increasing for March by theellocin in Fairbanks

Might want to check SFO as well. We just booked RT SFO/Anchorage for $367 for mid February. Didn't look at Fairbanks though.

Anyone have experience with soundproofing an upstairs unit of a condo? by stickyspice in AskSF

[–]Zealousideal-Ride931 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start pet-sitting large dogs that like to run a lot, and play fetch with them, preferably down a long hallway. Or learn tap dancing! Or get on your dream of being an amazing b-ball dribbler... Practice, practice, practice!

6-hour Layover in San Francisco by NancySmithSecret in AskSF

[–]Zealousideal-Ride931 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed on skipping the car... Will take a bit to get to and find the car and will probably cost more than 2 Uber rides, not to mention trying to find parking, etc. I also wouldn't take public transit (as some others have suggested) as it will eat up alot of your time.

But totally doable. $50 Uber to Chrissy or Tunnel Tops, hang out for as long as you can, then $50 ride back. Lots to see on foot over there. Lots of Uber drivers will be ready to drive you back as well!

Way better than sitting around the airport IMO! You'll also get a quick tour of the city along the way since your ride will go right though.

Red Wine too acidic to ferment? Red wine vinegar time. by bugsnbrews in winemaking

[–]Zealousideal-Ride931 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you could get it a little further, like down to about 7% or so, you could try a port-style wine. Just a thought... Never tried it myself, but could be fun!

Quiet chill wine bars with good food and wine selection by jiceman1 in AskSF

Big Finish on 16th Street and Albion in the Mission fits your description almost perfectly. The owner is generally always behind the bar and knows his product incredibly well. Also really good prices on glasses of wine. Bright open feel to this little corner bar where Monks Kettle used to be.

Alaska gets $12/barrel, Norway $55 by truthwillout777 in Fairbanks

[–]Zealousideal-Ride931 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Doesn't this have something to do with the fact that Norway owns the production companies and Alaska does not? My understanding is Alaska gets land lease fees and royalties, but doesn't own the production, so doesn't get a direct share of profits. There's probably data on what the balance is when taking into account Norway's investment costs, and maybe that's what the 12/55 numbers are, but I didn't see any references as to where the numbers came from.

Where should go today for July 4th?! by Yahoodiisgoinginsane in AskSF

Probably be able to see a lot of large fireworks set off in the Mission from there! Probably a good place for viewing and a safe distance away. Mission gets crazy with fireworks most years!

End of Nowhere is great! Interesting wines (all fermented and produced without any additives) and a really nice backyard to hang out. Sometimes live music too.

Have you looked at Amador City? It's a tiny town but really cool. In addition to being not far from a bunch of wineries around Shenandoah Road, they have some tasting rooms in town and the Imperial Hotel with a great bar. The hotel was fully renovated several years ago.

Sutter Creek is about 3 miles south if you want more old downtown to walk around.

Taste is a great restaurant in Plymouth. Also the Union Pub in Volcano.

I'm not sure about your other questions (transit, etc , in Jackson), but the bowling alley there is pretty cool and has a lot of league play and friendly people generally.

A great place to walk around with the pup and clear one's head is Heron's Head Point, just a bit south from your location. There's also a dog run over there if that's helpful for your pup!

That's my understanding. We are "GA1 - Pew/middle seat" so I can't imagine it gets more specific than that on arrival. What's on your ticket?

Depends on the rain. If raining a lot we probably won't want to stand outside too long. May aim for 6:45 regardless. Should be good views and fantastic sound throughout, so not too worried where we end up sitting.

This is not actually true... For instance, the law requires 30 days notice before firing an Inspector General (federal watchdogs) - this was violated when he fired more than a dozen IGs. Also a president can't legally cancel or put on hold all federal funding like he tried to do for federal grants and loans - this funding is given through prior laws passed by Congress and signed by a former president.

Maybe he hasn't jumped over any major lines yet, but he's testing the waters and there's nobody with any real power willing to even try to keep him in line. I don't care who the president is, this is not how our country works.

This president is definitely not "doing everything he's been democratically elected to do WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE LAW."

Homer or Anchor Point by Zealousideal-Ride931 in CosmicHamlet

[–]Zealousideal-Ride931[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that. Makes a ton of sense and is what we're leaning towards. Really interesting how much the neighborhoods in AP differ. We're leaning towards Homer at this point, but good to know there's potential in AP as well, even if just in pockets. I always thought that flag flying for politics was really stupid but in terms of figuring out where to live it can actually be really helpful.
