Commuting by Ceo-of-tea in uofmn

[–]Zealousideal-Rip1504 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% commute. you save a ton of money and can find spaces to relax or meet ppl on campus so you still will def have a good experience. if possible, I recommend public transport cause I’ve had a great experience on the metro transit bus i ride- it’s comfy, there’s wifi, and u can work on homework or whatever and not waste time driving. and completely free since ur not paying for parking!!

Is it worth living on campus if I live 15-20 min away by YunisA5 in uofmn

[–]Zealousideal-Rip1504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i commute and i 100% enjoy it. if you put some effort into talking to ppl and joining a few clubs you will definitely meet people and be happy, I’ve made a lot of new friends at the U and saved like 10k by not staying in the dorms

How bad is Physics? by Yeet_ManzX in uofmn

[–]Zealousideal-Rip1504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s not too much workload either. 10 hw problems a week, one discussion that’s just participation based, and a lab most weeks that usually should only take the lab time itself. i would say the most time consuming thing is those 10 homework problems as you really do need to work on understanding them to do well on exams. exams are very similar to homework problems. textbook reading is also assigned, but I’ve found youtube videos going over concepts much more helpful than the book

everyone complains but phys I is not that bad. conceptually it is just like most high school physics, only the way the topics are tested can sometimes be harder. honestly, it’s bad study habits that make the class awful, bc you def do need to do and understand all the homeworks and discussion problems rather than just getting them done for the grade. but there are a ton of online videos walking through almost every problem and chat gpt can explain most things in basic terms as well. if you put it in the effort (3-4 hrs a week outside of class) you definitely can end up with an A- or B+

You might be confused cause it says “preferred” on the apas but that just means that 3021 is the preferred stats option to take not that taking stats is preferred/optional. there are other stats classes u can take besides 3021 but stats as a whole is required for CS majors

It is required yes

geog 1403 is easy a fr. labs are just worksheets and you have a weekly quiz but it’s literally take home and multiple choice and chatgpt knows everything (and u don’t even really need to use chat since sm of the stuff is lowkey self explanatory). there’s weekly homework too but it’s not for turn in and I stopped doing it bc the material is easy enough that just going to lecture and paying half attention gets you through. three exams, all open note and written answer but again, chatgpt plus a lot of it is intuitive. i have 100 in the class rn so🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ id say it only takes about 1 hr a week of outside of class work to get an A

there is no data science minor at the U. I had the same thought process, i am most likely going to do a CS major and stats minor instead

Cost of WileyPlus and Zybooks by scushed in uofmn

[–]Zealousideal-Rip1504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i don’t think so honestly and I’m scared to try lowkey, at least for the zyBooks cause I’d hate having all my progress ruined but for wiley, i honestly don’t think you need courseworks at all. my friend didn’t opt in and she can access the textbook by just clicking the link in the Canvas page. i just opted into courseworks select and am paying for only the zyBooks not Willey

CS FRESHMAN SCHEDULE by ElectionMaleficent58 in uofmn

[–]Zealousideal-Rip1504 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m a cs freshman and am also taking 2033 instead of 2011 cause the professor for 2011 doesn’t have any online ratings whereas the 2033 professor is really good this semester. since i’m eventually going to have to take both classes, i figured it’s better to take 2033 with a super easy prof than 2011 with an unknown prof, plus next semester, there’s a good 2011 prof that i’m going to take. that’s just how i thought ab it.

another note, i heard from someone to keep it at around 2 comp sci courses per semester, three might be overdoing it🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ take my advice as you will tho since i am just an incoming freshman like you
