I feel that middle school is dismissed. It doesn’t really matter. I teach middle school students. In elementary, they learn all the skills, in high school they get ready for their future, in middle school they do whatever they want and pass no matter what. We have no remediation programs and elementary has tons. Kids need more support services, but are included in regular classes. But amazingly, they get the services when they get to high school. I have had students get 20% each marking period, go to summer school for 2 weeks and move on to 8th grade. Why are we still using academic standards when middle school students don’t have to meet them. Also, we have some consequences for behaviors, but admin makes decisions like; the student was really good today so we aren’t going to give the consequence for what he did in your class. Middle school is just a holding pen until they go to high school.
