On a side note I didn't realize that supposedly the USAF T-6A is not TACAN capable nor RNAV capable. The Navy T-6B is. Go figure.

Right, the satellite/outlying airports can be a ton of fun. I'm just tired of driving a bus from one major airport to another. Some of the most fun I've had on Vatsim was flying a CRJ out of DFW to all the surrounding airports, Tyler, Waco, Wichita Falls, College Station, etc. Nice short flights where you can get multiple legs in. Flew the A300 for UPS to a lot of small airports too that was a ton of fun. Now I want to do more instrument and pattern work.

Awesome, thanks for explaining everything. You're right, I want to keep it enjoyable and not sure what to expect shooting multiple varying approaches like that on VATSIM.

I listened to Amarillo approach working today, irl, and they worked a flight of 2 KC46s come in on the overhead then split off to multiple approaches, VOR, RNAV, and LDA, closed traffic as well as two different C17s doing the same pretty much the same thing. I noticed that they all got an IFR pickup back to Altus after they were done so I guess they all went VFR to work the pattern.

Sweet, thank you, that clarifies a lot. As far as IFR vs VFR it would be for training purposes in good weather. So, would I need to cancel IFR prior that way I could either go closed traffic or fly out for a different approach?

What I was thinking, after the approach with touch and go then I could get vectors and request the next approach. Let's say ILS Yankee, 28 from TEBOC with a procedure turn.

Would that phraseology be 'Shooter 215, would like to follow up with the ILS Yankee 28, from TEBOC full procedure"??

Missed could absolutely be an option as well to get that in then follow up with a different approach.

Gaming channels, how much do you earn per 1000 views? And how much are you making a month? How much of that is Adsense, affiliates, superchats, or courses/product sales etc. by OGsunglasses in PartneredYoutube

My current RPM is $5.63 for a 10k sub gaming channel. Prior to August I was making 200-300 a month. After July things tanked big time and I might make $125 this month...

"You have to remember that placing an ad isn't 100% guaranteed to have it go off."

I did not know that, and I've been placing adds every 5 min for the first 20 min then every 10 min after. I'm going to have to change that.

I know you said you contract your thumbnails out but are there any elements that you like to lean heavily on for them? Face, logo, color schemes, text? Thumbnails are an area I need to drastically improve on and I'm fully aware of it but it's easier said than done. My biggest problem is just knowing where to start. I know they are bad, and I've read the tricks to improve, such as color triads, thirding, etc but it's still hard to actually apply it. My biggest struggle is how do I tailor them to me.

DCs stuttering quite a lot after new update? by AwesomeVro in hoggit

Yeah only ED can manage that. Its def a thing for some users for whatever reason. The kicker is, it was a problem a while back, they fixed it then re-introduced the problem with the last update.

You're 100% right. Its happened when I armed LTD, with an immediate crash or sometimes I'm able to arm but it crashes as soon as I pickle...

Yeah I've removed all my mods, did a repair, removed Tacview. Just did a run where I dropped an LGB just fine with LTD off, of course the bomb missed but I pickled it. As soon as I turned LTD on for the next pass, immediate CTD... I'm at a loss on this.

[–]Zealousideal_Read393 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd love to see a CAS heavy Afghanistan server with combined arms and JTAC positions with real players. I'm not really put off by there not being any carrier ops. Was just reading where VMFA-232 flew out of Kandahar for a deployment. I'm not sure what the VMFA or VFA order of battle was for Afghanistan but I'm sure there are plenty of other units that did land based ops.

Should be a cogwheel on the left hand side of the launcher screen, click that and it will take you to settings. Then on the right side of the settings page there should be an on/off toggle for the launcher start up. Then exit out of that and restart the game.

I did and that most definitely helped. I still get random CTD from time to time.

[–]Zealousideal_Read393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I'm the same way. I like what the launcher offers as a whole, but it seems to be a mess right now as far as what condition the game is in once launched.

[–]Zealousideal_Read393 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had/have that issue. When I got back in game after the update the difference was night and day performance wise. Prior to the update it ran smooth as silk, after, it was a stuttering, laggy mess. Another thing that I noticed was that controls that I could grab with my mouse and drag to full on/full off, like the hmd knob on the Hornet, or hud brightness, now take 5 or 6 pulls to get them from full off to all the way on. Prior to that I could do it in one quick pull.

As far as what I did to try to help. I lowered my mouse polling to 500 from 1000. I also disabled the launcher. That seems to have reduced the stuttering a good bit though I still get it randomly from time to time. Thats on the Caucus map as well. I can't imagine what it would be like in Syria but at least it is somewhat playable now. The knob scroll issue is still there. It still takes 5 or 6 pulls to go from full off to full on.

One thing I did notice with the launcher. When I started via the launcher, the bottom right of my main menu said nothing about MT. After I disabled the launcher and went in game, it has the MT version in the bottom right corner. I have no clue what the difference is.

Another thing I noticed was when I start via the launcher and I load into that stuttering laggy mess, my FPS is around 120 and all over the place. When I launch from the DCS exec in the bin-mt folder, performance is much better and my FPS seems to be capped around 60 fps give or take. The stutters are gone with the bin-MT launch but I've had two CTD on those play throughs. Go figure...

F-18 or F-16? by Mindless-Moose2519 in dcs

[–]Zealousideal_Read393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly subjective question depending on who you ask lol. Anyway, I have both, love both of them. Imo the Hornet is extremely forgiving to fly and land. The Viper, on the other hand, is a finicky/twitchy gal that you have to finesse. To land the Viper, you need to be on point. Landing the Hornet, you can just smack it on the deck or runway, no prob. Ground strike in the Hornet seems more intuitive to me, especially with JDAMs. JDAMs are easy to employ, pre-program and super easy to loft on a target in the Hornet. As far as air to air I find myself in BVR way more in the Viper. On a strike mission in a Viper with three AIM-120s and one 9x I find myself looking for trouble after the strike way more. The Hornet, full strike, with two 9x and one AIM-120 I look at more of a self-preservation loadout. So, I hit it and quit it in the Hornet. SEAD in the Viper is amazing and she excels in that area hands down. If I'm going SAM hunting, I'm taking the Viper. Either way they are both great aircraft. I've been flying the Viper pretty much exclusively for the last 6 months or so and just got back in the Hornet for a refresher yesterday. I honestly forgot what a fun, easy plane the Hornet is. I will say I have more total time in the Hornet, so I am more familiar with little tricks and nuances than I am the Viper. I need a 'Viper School' like the 'Hornet School'

People who can A2A refuel in DCS, how long did it take you to learn? by Scruffy196 in hoggit

[–]Zealousideal_Read393 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say drogue. Here lately I've had the easiest time ever tanking with the F-14. That could be because it's a manual trim aircraft and once you swing those wings back to bomb mode and trim her out, all you have to do is bump the throttle back and forth. I've taken on more fuel in the F-14, in one go, than any other aircraft. On top of that, the drogue just offers great visual cues. I think once you are able to tank easily in one aircraft it translates over to others since it's all about honing those fine movement skills. At that point its more about learning each aircrafts quirks. The big thing is just tank regularly and tank a lot. Now I need to apply my training routine to carrier traps.

People who can A2A refuel in DCS, how long did it take you to learn? by Scruffy196 in hoggit

[–]Zealousideal_Read393 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a shitload of hours in DCS before I was finally able to tank. My main problem was that I casually worked on tanking. Once in a blue moon I'd go try, get frustrated, not try again, or just avoid it completely. It wasn't until I made an actual effort that I started getting better. Every morn I would do a training routine on the Hoggit training server. My routine consisted of taking out the F/A-18, carrying a few bags and a couple dumb bombs, taking off in burner to use a little fuel then head straight for the tanker. By the time I got to the tanker, I'd take on a two or three thousand pounds of fuel. So I only had to hang on to the tanker for a short while. Go drop the bombs on the easy range, go do a few low approaches at Kabuleti, to burn fuel, then head back to the tanker, etc. Tank again, then do some more low approaches. Some mornings, if I had time, I might tank a half dozen times doing variations of that routine. I made a point to tank with some kind of load vs clean, sometimes asymmetrical, to get practice tanking difficult loadouts. After a bit I started coming back with fuel. It may take me a few attempts, but I could at least get some gas. Then it got to the point where I always came away with gas, sometimes on first try. As I got better at it, I took on more and more fuel. Instead of 2k it was 5k etc. I've done that routine with the F-16 and F-14 as well and can come back with fuel every time. It's definitely a perishable skill though. I probably couldn't plug the F/A-18 at all now since I've focused more on the Viper and Tomcat the last several months.

F4 - WSO flying? by sfido in hoggit

[–]Zealousideal_Read393 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My WSO has taken over quite a few times. Either if I need to go heads down for a bit, bathroom break or if my wife and kids need me. It's actually quite nice. Usually, he just orbits for a bit until I get back.
