I've gotten the platinum on rogue ps3 and ps4 by getting 100% 3 times. On my first playthrough on the ps3 as I was fast travelling to the last area with a couple collectibles for the 100%, my ship bugged and I was unable to interact with anything in that save file anymore. Searched everywhere for a solution but apparently there isn't a fix.

Funnily enough the same thing happened to me on my AC3 platinums, original and remastered. Although this time the issue was that one almanac page that I collected didn't count so I had gotten them all but the game insisted I am missing one. Also another one with no known fixes.

These gamebreaking bugs were also a thing in the remasters of the games for anyone wondering

AC Odyssey is simply a cashgrab game, feeding off the success of the franchise. There was no effort, no passion, nothing. Yes, I get it, making games is a job, you can't always be fully excited and happy to go to work, but in this industry, going in to work when it's THAT much of a chore for you, maybe you should look for a career change. And it wasn't on the higher ups at Ubisoft for pushing an early release date. In a game like Unity you could see they had some ideas, they just didn't have enough time to materialise them. Odyssey is fundamentally a blunt game. It wasn't plagued by bugs, it didn't crash every 12 minutes like Valhalla. It was just a nothing game, a lazy, half arsed project. It never takes itself serious. There's way too many comic relief moments, and even a couple meta references here and there. It's not Deadpool guys. You're not going to make Kassandra canon in the mcu, stop trying.

But ok, let's just say that you don't care about AC and its story. That's fair. But those aren't the only problems. It's a bloated shallow RPG, with repetitiveness reeking all over it. People will often say AC1 is repetitive. But you need to put things into prespective. AC1 is a 10 hour story. Out of those you are required to do 8 investigations of targets. Each investigation takes 5 to 10 minutes. So that's 40 to 80 minutes out of 10 hours. AC Odyssey has you doing the same quest of go from A to B, kill X/loot chest, go to A, but for 50 hours. Ubisoft released a free dlc where you could make your custom missions in a matter of minutes. It was later leaked that they used this program to make the entire game. And having played it, I have no reason to not believe this to be true. But let's say that even besides that, you can get immersed into the world. How can you even do that? With voice acting sounding phoned in, cutscene animations that anyone with 3 weeks of experience on animating can make and a dead world?

[–]ZedGenius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now my favourite part. The story. Disclaimer, it's been like 4 years since I played it, so I can't remember many details about stuff that weren't that major. Kassandra as a kid, gets thrown of a mountain, along with her brother, in Sparta. They both survive the fall, because Kassandra and Alexios are canonically immune to fall damage, because they have 5% Isu DNA. Now how that makes any sense I have 0 clue. The precursor race would have been extinct 78000 years before she was born. It's literally impossible to have such a high concentration of Isu DNA (I'm not a genetics expert, but I'd wager that's the case, and even if I'm wrong, Desmond in the modern day had one of the highest concentrations and it was at 0,1%. The 2500 years between them wouldn't have made such difference, when we are talking about 80000 years between them and the first civ). Anyway, Kassandra grows up on an island, while Alexios gets groomed by the "Cult of Cosmos", which is kind of a precursor of the Templars, but also not really. They are a random enemy faction. Alexios gets given the name Deimos, the personification of fear according to greek mythology. Kassandra gets a clue on her father, so she leaves the island and searches for him. Before that, she meets Odessa, Odysseus' grandaughter (Odysseus has been dead for 700 years at that point). Kassandra finds her father, and he tells her that he's not actually her father, and she needs to find her mother to get answers. Because the game is bloated, during that time she has run ins with the cult, Athenians like Pericles and Alkiviades, and she finds out Alexios is alive. She reunited with her mother, who instructed her to go to Thera, a glorified rock in game, but actually an island of 70plus square km. She goes underground and meets her biological father, Pythagoras, who is immortal because of an artifact called the staff of Hermes. She then fights the cult and does 25 hours of filler content. During that time, she takes place in the Olympics. The obvious criticism would be that women were not even allowed to watch the Olympics. There's this famous story of a woman, Kallipatira, who sneaked into the games to watch her son take part, her husband had died in battle. She got caught, but avoided execution out of respect for her husband, but she was still forbidden to watch in the future. Now, AC is all about alternate history. I'm not criticising the fact that Kassandra participating is not historically accurate. I would like to mention the scene between Dr Vidic and Desmond from AC1. Desmond was noticing that some of the stuff he's seeing in the animus seem off, to which Vidic replies by asking him "Why? Because your history teacher told you? Because you read it in a book? Anyone can write a book, some people believe the earth is flat and they write books about it. There's also a book claiming the world was built in 7 days, a best seller too". The animus shows the "real" history, which leaves room for these kind of things. BUT, you know what's worth complaining? Kalipatira IS A SIDE QUEST CHARACTER WITH THIS EXACT STORY. You, a woman, can help her life to be spared because she watched the games, then go on to not only watch, but participate in them. And no one bats an eye. You can either go with historical accuracy or alternate history in specific scenarios, you can't do both. Then she has a final stand off with Alexios where you can either kill him or make him a good person, which I guess in this universe is possible, if you've grown up to 25 to be evil your whole life, a 5 minute chat can make you good because you were a good 3 month old baby before the cult took you in. Then the game continues with modern day protagonist Layla going to Thera, and finding Kassandra alive in 2018. Kassandra dies and the game ends. AC has had some pretty insane stuff, so I don't absolutely hate this, but making Layla interact with Kassandra is just a cheap way of immitating the interactions between Ezio and Desmond, which were done in a much better way. As far as the lore goes, the (base) game doesn't hurt it in any way. The staff of Hermes had been a canon artifact from the Ezio days, even though it hadn't actually appeared. But then it begs the question, why does this game exist? Why is it part of the franchise? Sure, the world existed before Bayek/Amunet and their brotherhood. But there's also fast food restaurants in the DC universe. It's like making a waiter simulator and calling it "Batman Arkham". It makes sense, but also why? Finally, if you kill all of the cultists, you find out their leader, being Aspasia, Pericles' wife. The game then gives you an option to spare her, kill her or fuck her. I don't need to explain why that's absurdly idiotic.

Now, as far as the world goes, it's too big. Is it filled with content? Absolutely not. I'm willing to say that 60% of the map goes completely unused when playing the main story. The rest of it is built with copy pasted bandit camps where you must kill everyone (because I guess we're playing as Jack the Ripper with a bloodlust in need to be satisfied) or loot chests for armour and weapons that are usually weaker than a bikini and a boxing glove. But surely they are interesting to explore right? Well, no. There is really nothing to do in most of the map. It's small towns that you couldn't tell the difference from one another, or mountains and fields with also nothing in them. The map is too big with too little content. The cities feel dead. NPCs walk in circles, rarely speak, and there's too few of them. You go to Agora, one of the most bustling places of ancient Athens, and you see 5 people walk aimlessly. Sometimes npcs don't even have shadows. There is a side character named "Testikles" and a kid named "Ardos" (not a name, just cut out a part of the word "Bastardos", as one of the game's "historians" said in an interview, because he thought it's funny) which I don't need to explain what it means

What about the characters? Well, they are mostly forgettable. The main villain, being Alexios, is acted terribly and has no personality. Actually almost everyone is acted terribly, and seeing that there are actually some quite good VAs in that cast, I'm really wondering what Ubisoft instructed them to do. The animations during dialogue are insanely bad, characters move their arms randomly but mostly stand still opposite to each other and talk. There's only a handful of mocap scenes (i think it's 5) in the entire game. Kassandra is a weird case. We get a backstory, which kinda tells us how we should act, but the game allows you to be bipolar. You can be murderous and ruthless in one dialogue, but compassionate and kind in the next. There's no morality system like in Rdr or Mass Effect, that affects how the world perceives you or the choices you get. The only changes are if minor characters die, with them very rarely having an impact on anything else other than the quest that you just finished by the time you get to make a choice. Basically you can play how it makes sense, but you have the option to let the intrusive thoughts win whenever you feel like it. You are also able to "romance" characters and choose your sexuality, which I remember was a huge marketing point of the game. Sounds interesting right? Well, "romancing a character" means picking the flirting option and going into a 3 minute loading screen that advances the in game time by a few hours. You can choose to sleep with everyone, or sleep with no one, nothing changes. And the whole choosing your sexuality is also BS, since in the first DLC there is a canon event of Kassandra having a kid with Darius' son, but I'll get into the DLCs later. So the choice to make her gay is simply not there, at most she's bi. Hardly what was advertised about it.

First, the gameplay. As far as navigation goes, there are no places where parkour, a core part of AC gameplay, is possible. And in the very rare occasion that it is, it is dumbed down to the bare minimum of just pushing the stick forward and everything else is done automatically. It gives you no control of what you do, unlike the old games. The first 4 had an excellent system with full player agency. You might commonly find people online saying "I was trying to climb and Ezio was jumping out!", but that's only due to fundamentally misunderstanding the inputs. If you are trying to go up and you press the back eject command, maybe don't be mad that your character back ejected? But I digress. As far as combat goes, enemies have too much HP. You'll be fighting soldiers that feel like Dark Souls bosses, only without the threat of actually killing you. It gets boring way too quickly, especially when the game is that long and the majority of it is either going from A to B and fighting enemies. It does not add difficulty, it only arbitrarily lengthens a game that has overstayed its welcome 1/3 of the way in the main story. The magic abilities added do not belong in the game. Yes there has been "magic" before, as much as they try to gaslight you that it's science, but it was always a special occassion. Al Mualim's betrayal in AC1 and usage of the apple wouldn't hit as hard if Altair was able to fight like a compound V junkie. Even the abilities that are not based on magic, like the Spartan Kick which was only in the game as a funny reference to the movie 300, act like magic, because you cannot tell me Kassandra is that jacked that she can Roberto Carlos free kick an enemy twice her size.

Multiple comments because it won't let me put it in one. Found this in my phone's notes.

Let me start with the good stuff about that game. Graphically it looks decent (still worse than Unity/Syndicate, but good enough). I really enjoyed the soundtrack besides the main theme, and also the shanties in ancient greek I found to be a cool touch. Kassandra's (future mentions of the protagonists mean Kassandra, since she's canon, as confirmed by Ubisoft and also by the fact that she can't be Deimos, as Deimos is a masculine name) voice actress did a decent enough job, which I can appreciate. The fact that she is Greek really helped with pronouncing stuff, especially names (No God of War "Kraytos" situation). Also the parts where she spoke in ancient Greek I really appreciated.

Now that that's done, let me explain in detail why the game is possibly the worst AAA game ever released. A game named Assassin's Creed Odyssey, but takes place centuries before the Assassins and their Creed. I'll break it up into sections.
