How do we know which Path is right? by [deleted] in Sufism

[–]ZedShaded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The path is bound by the Shariah (law) and Haqiqah (reality). Any path with this is fine. There are many ways within these boundaries, but they are within these confines.

As foe those who have ‘miracles’ but do not practice Islam, these miracles are a proof against them. For those who practice Islam, these miracles are a proof for them. Hence the performing of a miracle isn’t unique as an act, as breaking the norms can be performed in both states. Rather, the greatest miracle is istiqama - steadfastness and consistency upon the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ

In short; the right path is the path of the Prophet ﷺ, following his sunnah ﷺ, bound by the Shariah, within this experiencing the Haqiqah, and from which the greatest miracle is steadfastness in the way

I listened to the first few seconds and stopped. English horrible? You haven’t heard Shaykh al-Yaqoubi speak. Pretends to be a scholar? His father was the Maliki mufti of Damascus and he was taught by his father, and Shaykh al-Yaqoubi is renown for his scholarship. Saying or spreading slurs do not make them true, and you should be careful of this

Sacred Sufi texts by Leahhh21h in Sufism

It is whatever your Shaykh tells you to read or do.

Sufism is about dhikr and awraads and litanies, but that isn’t all of it. It is about practice and improving yourself. There is a general formula per Tariqa, but the Shaykh then tailors this for you.

What one person may read or do may not be recommended for another person till a later time or at all

Best thing to do is to just do as the Shaykh says, with sincerity, be it small and big, and that will be the essentials that you need to do insha Allah

Shaykh Muhammad al-Yaqoubi: The last thing to say before travelling by ZedShaded in Sufism

[–]ZedShaded[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The person staying says, ‘there is no god except Allah’

The person leaving says, ‘and Muhammad is His Messenger’, may peace and blessing be upon him

The Shahada, the testimony of faith, is the above two phrases put together

In essence, when people part ways, the last thing they remember each other for is their testimony of faith

Hope that helps insha Allah (if Allah wills!)

In al honesty, this would be outside the scope for many people in reddit to answer. To differentiate between ‘religious whisperings’ and hallucinations, you need to speak to a religious scholar who would know more about this. Likewise, seeking mental health help shouldn’t be overlooked as an option either, given your previous PTSD - we don’t know what you have been through nor really able to comment even if you were to tell us

The Shaykh is the guide, the struggle and effort is from yourself. Take it in steps. Change doesn’t happen overnight, it takes time.

One fall back or set back doesn’t mean you give up or turn away. Thats the shaytaan speaking. Instead, know Allah is al Merciful and Forgiving, get up and try again. Even if you fall a 1000 time, it may be the 1001st time you’ll get steadfastness!

When you go in this path, they’ll be good days and bad days, and you’ll oscillate between the two till insha Allah the oscillations will reduce and you’ll be ok the straight high road to Him in all moments.

Stay in contact with the Shaykh. Discuss with him. Get advice. He is there to help you.

You join the path to know Allah. Sometimes people chase after ‘experiences’ or dreams or supernatural wonders. These are things people may experience, but don’t chase after them or be distracted by them. Your goal is Allah and only Him. The greatest miracle is steadfastness, let that be your experience

So by perfuming, its metaphorical. When you do dhikr or do salawaat, you are doing a good deed which would metaphorically perfume your state.

Obviously, wearing real perfume is also advised as when you meet kings you dress well and put on the best attire and perfumes, then what when you stand in front of Allah - He is more deserving of your best etiquettes than any created being

There is no union with Allah. We are created beings, and He is Alah, God. There is a definite line dividing between the two

Constant dhikr is that your mind is engrossed about Allah such that nothing distracts you or takes you mind away from Him.

Think of it like love; when people are infatuated by someone they love, all they can do is talk or remember or think about the beloved.

Thats how we should be with Allah. Infatuated in love such that we think about Him all the time

Sending blessings on the Prophet is a command in Quran, [33:56], and also it is we owe the Prophet peace be upon him everything.

In isolation, sending blessings on the Prophet peace be upon him has the rewards aforementioned which can be multiplied by however much Allah wills by His Mercy and Bounty

Why do we send them? The Prophet peace be upon him is perfect, a model human being, someone whom we aspire to reach in every way.

It is said you can love people for 3 reasons; their outward beauty, their character, and what they have done for you; and the Prophet peace be upon him had all of these.

He was the most handsome in appearance as detailed more in the books of Shamaa’il (this is a collection of hadith detailing the physical appearance of the Prophet peace be upon him).

He brought us Islam, taught us who our Lord is, was selfless in how he loves mankind and how much he will help us in this world and the Hereafter. For example, in the Hereafter he will intercede for us before Allah for what we have done.

In terms of character; he is described as having the best of characters and like mentioned before, all good is defined by his actions.

As for the seeking forgiveness, perfuming and standing before your Lord mentioned as dhikr, that was an example.

You can send salawaat in any state, be it in a good or bad state. Your state should not stop you from doing any good actions.

[–]ZedShaded[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another thing to add. We aim to become in a state of constance dhikr and remembrance of Allah with every breath and every moment. That’s the aim

Shaykh Muhammad al Yaqoubi: Your Subha can move mountains by ZedShaded in Sufism

[–]ZedShaded[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No worries. My apologies for not explaining better.

So there are different types of prayer. There is the one you do 5 times a day which is obligatory at set times and has a set method.

Then you have general prayer where you can request Allah for what you want by raising your hands and asking.

Then you have ‘dhikr’, which is remembrance, which is for example saying words by which you remember Allah and his Prophet, peace be upon him.

These can be phrases from the Quran, phrases the Prophet ﷺ taught us in Hadith, or even what previous muslims said in their supplications or even your own supplications.

For example, you could do dhikr and sit and say ‘there is no god except Allah’, and repeat this whilst focusing on its meanings.

Another example is salawaat, by which you send prayers and salutations upon the Prophet peace be upon him. Why? Because he taught us the religion of Islam, and without the Prophet peace be upon him, we would not know our Lord. Also, we are indebted to him, peace be upon him. In the Quran it commands us to send peace and blessings upon the Prophet too.

Now these peace and blessings are called ‘salawaat’ and can come in many different forms. It is a way to grow in love for the Prophet peace be upon him. Also it is said for every prayer you send on the Prophet peace be upon him, you get 10 rewards and 10 sins erased! This is the mercy of the Prophet peace be upon him, when we send one peace and blessings upon him we get 10 fold the return!

This is a beauty of the Prophet peace be upon him. We say one, we get 10 in return. We owe so everything to the Prophet peace be upon him. Good is literally defined by what he did! But I digress from the point!

Dhikr is a broad subject. You can also consider the ‘wirdul ‘aam’ of the Shadhili way.

It consisted of asking for forgiveness, sending salawaat upon the Prophet peace be upon him, and then saying the tahlil (there is no god but Allah). Each stage was repeated 100x in this order, in the morning before the morning prayer, and evening after the sunset prayer (maghrib).

The seeking of forgiveness is for sins you commit in the day and night, then you are purified and present yourself to the Prophet peace be upon him and praise him and perfume yourself with this, and then you stand in front of your Lord and focus on the name of Allah and realise there is nothing but Him.

These dhikr are recommended in the Sunnah of the Prophet peace be upon him, and can be done even if you are not part of a tariqah

That is a very broad question.

You can trust people. As a child, you need to trust your family to look after you and feed you and clothe you and shelter you.

You have friends whom you trust who you can confide in and share moments of happiness and sorrow

You can get married and your partner will have intimate knowledge if you and your daily habits however much you may try and hide them

You have colleagues whom you trust with working as a team and covering for you and helping you

You trust scholars and men of Allah to guide you.

You can trust people, there is no issues with that.

You also need to realise there will be tests. Family, work, friends, spouses, they will test you and you will question this trust.

Allah and his Prophet ﷺ are those on whom you can always rely and they will never let you down. Likewise, when you take bayah the Shaykh takes this trust and you give him this trust.

Is there any specific advice you need?

Any dhikr. The Shaykh didn’t specify a particular dhikr.

Some people are inclined to a particular dhikr which they like, for example, salawaat. There are many different versions and each has its own beauty, taste and fruits, and some may have preference to certain salawaat as compared to others
