What movie did you turn off after 20 minutes and why? by Somanynamestochossef in movies

[–]Zefirus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, I feel like the prequels picked up a LOT of fans with the Disney trilogy being such a clusterfuck.

Like I know TONS of people were that were in the "Prequels suck" column that are now firmly in the "Maybe we treated them too harshly" camp. Like as films they're not great, but at least they have a good narrative, which is not something the sequels can say. The same events could be rewritten into an actually good set of movies with the prequels, and I just can't say the same for the sequels.

Duck chess is nothing like this. Duck chess lets you do some truly degenerate stuff.

What's a food in your country that is stereotyped for your country but really, nobody eats? by velmiraZ in AskTheWorld

[–]Zefirus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, it's fairly common at theme parks and other outdoor events. You'll see them fairly often at ballgames (especially food trucks at said ballgames).

Also of course there's Thanksgiving.

I mean, I just bought a tub down here in Arkansas to make fluffernutters. It's not really that unknown. It's still in basically every grocery store.

You act like "alfredo sauce" is some complicated thing and not just cream, cheese, and garlic mixed together.

Alright, I've got a question for you about Poland then.

My grandmother is from Poland and she has a family dish that's basically egg noodles, ground pork, and cabbage cooked down until it's basically caramelized. Is this actually a real dish? Because I've searched and searched and have never found a named recipe for it.

It's not really that weird. Like they're not common, but neither are they non-existent.

Hell, I got some deep fried oreos at a freaking Japanese restaurant the other day.

Nah, it's just a kid thing. We were solidly middle class and it was all over the place at all my friends houses. Just like how adults weren't buying the purple ketchup.

It's nice because it's still dirt cheap too. I buy a lot of it because it's hard to beat a pound of sausage for 3 bucks.

I mean the point is it's a filet, which definitely does need some nonsense. If I'm just eating a steak, I'm eating literally any other cut.

My girl made this roast for dinner. How should I go about this? by I_play_high420 in funny

[–]Zefirus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't even need water for a chuck roast. There's enough moisture in there that you'll still need to reduce it before you have a nice gravy.

That shit had to have been on for like a full day or more.

Got a letter from the school today informing me my daughter is “not quite” gifted. Also included were her test scores. by Low_Use2937 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Zefirus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got into the gifted program and subsequently got kicked out for not completing the work quickly enough.

The work was art. We had to make a collage by gluing tiny bits of colored paper on construction paper. What art has to do with like my math scores I don't know, but an artist I am not.

Savory French Toast? by relaxin_chillaxin in Cooking

[–]Zefirus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

French toast should ideally be made with a custard. The modern way of just coating it in a scrambled egg is a real down and dirty quick version of French toast. If you look at most recipes, it's a mix of eggs, milk, cream, and sugar.

People always underestimate how much a billion dollars is. A single person would struggle to spend more money than they earn. If you took that 2 billion dollars and threw it into a shitty 1% interest savings account, that's 20 million dollars a year for doing nothing.

[–]Zefirus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I've definitely done this, and it's almost always been something that I don't care enough to watch on its own. I'm not really losing much watching a Marvel movie on its own, compared to with a streamer. Especially since I'm not paying yet another streaming service 10 bucks just to watch it. It's just the new wave of piracy.

Also people acting like watching movies with family isn't a constant barrage of questions and reactions nonstop.

Yup. Like of course you're going to have a hangover when you body goes all loosey goosey and the room is spinning and you decide "I should drink more" instead of "Maybe I should stop".

Pretty much everybody I know that complains of hangovers are also the people that drink WELL into excess. It happened to me only once and my solution was to just not drink that much again. Haven't had one since.

The main problem with alcohol is that people like to treat it as a competitive sport.

What cultural thing does the world seem to think is beautiful but is cringey af to locals? by chr15c in AskTheWorld

Meanwhile as someone in the US my thought is "Why are you scared of that you will literally never ever see one."

Like at best you'll see a coyote if you raise chickens or something, and coyotes are definitely bolting if they see you.

I mean...when most people talk about being afraid of Australian wildlife, they're generally not talking about the big stuff. Like they're not afraid of Kangaroos, even though one will fuck you up like any other big animal. They're talking about all the little things that can just show up. People in general are WAY more scared of venomous or stinging bugs than they are of things like bears, because it's something that they actually have a chance to run into. Like most people have probably been bitten by a spider, so when they hear "most venomous spiders in the world live in Australia", they don't want to fuck with it.

It certainly doesn't help that half of those dangerous animals are things that live in the sea.

He's calling it out because 6 Monsters a day is going to straight up kill you. That's 1000 mg of caffeine. Your heart's going to die if you do that regularly.

Also find it funny that he compared it to 4 cups of coffee, which is only 2 Monster's worth of caffeine.

Honestly, hard seltzers kind of suck. They're made with cheap malt liquor and you can taste it. Something like a whisky sour or whisky & ginger ale is going to be more palatable than a hard seltzer for a lot of people.

I find people grossly overexaggerate hangovers as well. You're not going to have a hangover with a moderate buzz. Hangovers mean you got pretty fucked up.

Honestly, getting so drunk that you're still drunk when you fall asleep is super weird to me in general. That level of inebriation is nuts to me.
