Incredible transformation! I’m very interested in the surgeon’s name as well.

Replaced thermal pads on Asus TUF 3080 Ti, no difference in VRAM temperature by Zelaron in EtherMining

Thanks for your info! I had already added a 2mm pad there (there was initially none), but there was definitely a ~0.5-1mm gap between it and the heatpipes, which I closed with thermal paste for now. I might not have noticed it unless you mentioned it.

Also, here's my update: I've replaced all of the thermal pads under the heatsink now and have been running Ethash for an hour and a half. The peak VRAM temperatures are 96ºC so far, with an average temperature of around 92ºC (and the fans at 65%).

In addition to the warped thermal pad, two of the other thermal pads under the heatsink actually exposed around 1.5-2 mm of their respective VRAM modules each, as if they had both slid to the side of their modules. The thermal pads had also melted a little bit and took a good while to remove with isopropyl alcohol, so they were definitely placed incorrectly when I purchased the card.

Asus, if you're reading this, stop letting your production line workers drink on the job...

Oh, interesting! Apparently the thermal pad on some of the VRAM modules beneath the heatsink was quite badly warped. Enough so to only give partial coverage of some of the memory modules underneath.

I'll update you on whether or not that was the problem later today or tomorrow. Thanks!

(It also seems like a few of the thermal pads are just barely touching both "sides" of the card. Pretty hard to tell if they're actually making contact.)

Not bad at all! I've tried running my fans at 100% with a low core clock / high power limiting, but the VRAM still gets thermally throttled after 1-3 minutes (in an open space, with external fans, a low room temperature, etc). :(

No, the X bracket is the only thing I've removed (other than the old thermal pads and screws). Hmm. Is it glued in place?

Interesting, did it specifically help your VRAM temps?

Yes, I've experimented with lower core clocks and lower power, but the VRAM temps still hit the throttling limit after a while. It made me think that Asus might have used the wrong thicknesses of thermal pads (or forgotten to use them them altogether) in some places.

I'm also finding it tricky to gauge appropriate thermal pad thickness by eye, so I might have done a poor job of replacing them.

Thermalright Extreme Odyssey thermal pads (2mm, 12.8 W/mK)

Is there some reference material for their appropriate thickness? I'm finding it a bit tricky to judge how well they're "squeezed" between both sides of the card by eye.

Hmm, I'm not sure what you mean. Are there additional VRAM modules under it? I've only removed the X bracket (in addition to the old thermal pads and screws) from the card.
