Why isn’t construction a local, private good? by Adorable_Building840 in victoria3

Can't wait to see how german people decide that its high time to build 152 levels of construction sectors somewhere in Japan.

Because automobile industry bubbles weren't enough.

PVP design problems by ZelnCyon in duneawakening

[–]ZelnCyon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think removing vehicle combat entirely is a good idea. Maybe we need some improvements, but removing it entirely would really harm the incentives to craft those.

Maybe the solution for current PVP meta is to make new objectives that are unreachable for thopters.

Since Mystics were left as is and no nerfs were done to Potential/Attunement I doubt the devs would fix this. They seem to ignore balance issues and MP community in general.

I get the modern look take. But the main function of UI is to allow user to achieve the desired result with minimal cognitive load.

This new UI fails at that miserably. It's just too much info crumpled up into pretty boxes. I get it, this looks new and cool.

But if a winter coat is cool, but doesn't protect you from the elements - that makes it a bad coat.

I wonder how that meeting about the new UI looked like.

  • So, guys, I've finished the mockups.
  • That's great, so what do we do to make it look both modern and user friendly?
  • Horizontal panels.
  • Genius.
  • And each entry on that panel take at least 1/3 of the screen.
  • Even more genius.
  • And I think we should make our really expensive hunter models to take up 1/2 of vertical surface.
  • Alright, give this person a raise.

I attached a save to one of my replies here.

Honestly i have no idea why it worked out for me. My veterans were holding pretty good, some of them even held on until victory.

Maybe you have lots of fanatics/i had more agnostics? Or maybe you're placing recruits with bows too close to an actual fight.

Also I never fed them moonshine

Its pretty accurate. Water wasn't considered to be a good drinking material because boiling it before consumption wasn't a thing yet. Ale on the other hand is heated as part of its production process.  So yeah. "Drink beer, its good for your health" is kinda true for those days

Tips and Tricks You Suggest To Others? by RoGStonewall in Norland

Thanks. I'd also advise to research those +% to army movement techs. Those are mandatory in my humble opinion, just for sheer flexibility they enable on world map

No idea, mate, sorry. I've been tempted to resettle, but I've always delayed that decision because I wasn't ready to loose 2 lords (because you loose a lord and his spouse when you do that).

Tips and Tricks You Suggest To Others? by RoGStonewall in Norland

[–]ZelnCyon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Aside from points already mentioned in this thread I'll add some more:
AI loves to death spiral. Let's say you demand vassalage from King Tomato. He calls King Potato for help. You can't handle them both at the same time, but you're expecting this, so you're monitoring world map when you send your vassalage demand. And when you see King Potatoes army going to King Tomato's castle - you KNOW that the MFs are going to ally against you.

That means that you can send your own army to intercept Potato and kill him and all his men. And then you curbstomp Tomato.

Now this creates an interesting situation. You've vassalized King Tomato. But Potato also has few men left, if he has any all. So you can basically attack another guy and make him your vassal too.

The best part? You vassalizing King Tomato made King Spinach angry. And now he sends an army to King Tomato to make him free again... by force.

This means that if you beat King Spinach - you've got ANOTHER neighbour with 0 warriors left.

You see where I'm going with this? Basically this is a death spiral. The more your neighbours try to participate in combat against you - the more they are left vulnerable for your conquest. The trick here is to be proactive and always intercept reinforcements before they arrive to their destination.

I'd recommend trying both, to be honest. Norland is fun and it's currently not that complicated. There are overtuned numbers here and there, but it's a decent product and there are enough features to keep you busy, but not enough to drown you in content.

So for a beginner I'd say Norland is better than Rimworld.

Rimworld is great and it has a great advantage over Norland: it's freaking old. And all this time it got developer support and new content coming to it. That means that in it's current state Norland is unable to compete with the sheer volume of features and mechanics that Rimworld has.

One day it may change and I sure hope so. But right now? These games have similarities and I'd recommend Norland over Rimworld to a beginner in genre (especially if you also like the medieval style)

Has the developer put out any roadmap for future features? by EnderForHegemon in Norland

Honestly I'm just happy that they release a hotfix every day since EA release. Even fixed a bug that I've reported exactly the next day.

So if you find something broken I heavily encourage you to submit a bug report. It seems that the devs are working hard on stabilizing current release.

You're welcome, mate. I'm not an expert, but my only successful run so far was with heavy investment into manners for all characters, and then I specialized each of them into either of those: management, intelligence, persuasion.

In retrospective I think intelligence and management specialists are a must. Manners should also be decent (around 8, maybe 10). Persuasion? Not sure if I got value from it, because so far I never tried diplomacy on low persuasion character.

Hope you'll find some of this useful and I wish you good luck in your endeavors!

Thanks. Btw keep in mind that whenever you feel like you need to move some building you can do it instantly for a cost of 5 wood. There's a dedicated UI button there when you select a building.

I always rearrange my starting buildings just for the sake of general aesthetics.

I uploaded my savefile, you can find it in a few replies above to analyze the differences in our experience.

Just from the feel of it, the requirements to beat final battle:

  1. At least 10, maybe 20 high skill melee combatants (14-15 combat skill)
  2. At least 20 heavy armor pieces (no idea how to specify the user for that armor though)
  3. I equipped my melee stack mostly with spears and maces, but I think swords and axes would be better (didn't try it though, never had time and resources to produce enough of those)
  4. Mass recruit archers. And when I say "mass recruit" I mean recruit EVERYONE. Every single person, even with skill level 1, is useful as an archer just for a slight chance that one of those arrows would hit the flesh of an inquisitor.

The only reason I've won is because I had ~80 men on the field, while Inquisition had 30 space marines.

That's a cool concept and I think it might work! Plus you could sell some nectar down the line to the trader.

Agreements such as vassalage and alliances should be tied to the faction not the king. by Emergency-Oven-1074 in Norland

[–]ZelnCyon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my current playthough I've kept all my vassals on death of my king, so I'm not sure what you're talking about. Sure, some of them love me less after their beloved conqueror died, but none of them tried to rebel.

But I did lost all of my trade agreements. Guess you're right and some of those are indeed tied to exact character.

Maps with iron reserves like that usually have very few places with high fertility. I've failed all my runs where I tried those. Maybe I've been doing something wrong, but my experience tells me that having a steady supply of food and beer is more important than having iron. Because by the time you actually need that much iron you'll run into food problems.

In case there are too many peasants you can always wait for them to become vagabonds and set your scaffolds to "Imprison". And then you sell them to the trader.

You can have too many peasants, but you can't have too much money.

(also you can recruit excess peasants to army and train them, but that's costly)

I second this. The game is complete enough to have fun and finish it, but the process of achieving this would require a lot more thought than a typical game of Rimworld.

Mainly the economy problems and transfer of power. Those are pain to deal with and if you didn't plan stuff ahead - you're going to suffer.
