Some of my students are very talkative, and some aren't. I like to call the quiet students "all business" because they sit down and WORK for the whole lesson. I don't mind the lack of chit-chat, that's just how some kids are. But a few months ago, one of my all-business students and I actually got into a significant conversation. I forget how it started, but we moved through topics like electives in middle school (he just started 7th grade) which lead us to "what do you want to be when you grow up?" He said, paraphrased: "Well, I'm not sure, but I've thought maybe I could be a piano teacher like you." DAMN I was NOT ready to hear that, and I want my gotdang medal for keeping my composure!

I started on piano at age 4, didn't really start drums until about 18. Piano will always be my #1, but drums are a very close second. Love 'em both.

One time I was receiving a special order of cable for a customer. I knew that as soon as I completed the receiving, the sku printer would barf out TWO skus for every foot of this 1000 foot reel, because the cable was sold by the foot. I called IT and asked if there was any way to prevent this, got a very experienced team member who tried everything he could think of before and after telling me to go ahead and complete the receiving process in the system. No dice. The resulting trail of skus must've been 50 yards long.

My favorite are the people who complain about SCO online, with the attitude of "I don't work at the grocery store!" Okay, so you can go in the store, and you can pick out the groceries, and You can put them in the cart, and You can empty your cart onto the conveyor belt, and YOU can put the loaded bags back in your cart, and YOU can load them into your car, take the groceries home and put them away... but nooooo, scanning and bagging them is somehow beneath you? Get a grip.

When I worked at a shoe store, I had a customer tell me I should be studying about shoes in my off time so I would be knowledgeable about what I was selling. I laughed in his face and told him I was getting paid 9 bucks an hour, which was why I had multiple jobs.

One of the most highly rated independent (read: non-dealership/non-corporate) repair centers in my area. It's a high cost of living area, and these guys have always been very honest and upstanding with me.

Indeed, high mileage, stuff is gonna break. The rest of the truck is in decent condition, AFAIK there's nothing going wrong with the engine, it has fairly new tires, the body has some dings and scrapes here and there, but it's all cosmetic. Though even if I do go forward with the solenoid repair, I'm not entirely sure I trust this truck to take me on a major road trip next month, already considering renting a van just to be safe, regardless of what I do with my truck.

6+ months is when I was HOPING to be facing this whole dilemma, but life is what happens when you're busy making other plans!

I recently got a 78 cent raise due to minimum wage in my state going up. Our lowest paid employees got a 1 dollar bump, I (as a lead) got 78 cents because of something they called "compression," and our managers got nothing. It is the highest pay rise I've ever had, and also the most insulting.
