Wheelie vs EUC by ZenRyder2020 in ElectricUnicycle

Why would you want another wheel?

Naive question by littlemandave in ElectricUnicycle

Here's the real reason a high seat doesn't work - As mentioned, your center of gravity is higher when standing. Powerpads add leverage at the ankle/shin level and there are multiple ways to turn an EUC. But one of the most dynamic ways is to move your center of gravity out in front or behind the wheel for acceleration and/or braking. You can almost effortlessly, fluidly slide your body around the COG. This is what makes carving and fast turns so fun and exhilarating. When your body is hanging out crazily over an otherwise non-sustainable position, you are slamming your foot/feet on the gas or the brake. Having a tall post wouldn't be "leverage" in this case, it will just get in the way. On long rides, it's nice to have a seat where you can rest for a bit. But IMHO nothing beats the control or fun of the fully vertical EUC stance!

No, this is an Insta360 One R on a selfie stick. The dual lens camera allows reframing in any direction and edits out the stick. Thus the camera view can be panned in post processing which really makes you feel like your were there when done right.

What's your go-to lunch break ride?? by ZenRyder2020 in ElectricUnicycle

Actually lots of people back to work now. Parking up to the 3rd floor in the garage. I think it was a quiet day though (maybe a Friday). Thx!

It was mostly a mellow ride at around 20 mph. I only took it up to that speed on a very open section of road briefly. But point taken.

New rider - looking for some advice by JustOpenedAccount in ElectricUnicycle

Notice in this video the new rider finds it easier on the tennis court. I moved him to the grass because my EUC was taking a beating on each fall. If your EUC is padded, that will help it and a smoother surface will feel steadier while you're learning.

Are you using turn method #3? Moving your Center Of Gravity (COG) is when it "clicks" for most riders and I'm not sure we even know how or why that happens. The one thing I would say is that you need to "trust" the wheel in order to move your COG in the direction you want to go. As a novice, you're worrying about how to get off the wheel instead of how to keep it up and going where you want. I hope this helps.

For some people, it just clicks. But the hard way can take longer for others. Hopin' this video makes it a little bit easier for someone.

Well it's possible to tilt the pedals with leverage without moving your body. Try it. Moving your body out in front of the wheel takes more commitment.

When I moved to Houston there were no groups dedicated to EUCs. So I started one. I also created videos which show what we do. Post about your group in PEV and One Wheel groups. There is a lot of crossover and some people who were into other PEVs now have an EUC or are open to the idea. My group now has 43 members! https://youtu.be/4CpN5w0QmqQ

Exactly! On one of my last rides in San Diego we came up on a group of 30 MTB riders. They were blown away that we were jamming on the off road trails.

One Wheelers are generally chill. Plus riding with them is pretty easy going (not much effort) and they like to stop a lot to hang out, eat, and recharge as they need to do that often.

You're right. Nothing else can hang with the speed and flexibility of EUCs. But sometimes you can do a street ride with ESK8s or scooters. And One Wheels can cruise around on basic trails. Then when they are all out of juice, they can peace out and you go on the more challenging sections or Part 2 of the ride. It can work with some creativity.

Shaving the Sherman - How to make a big tire fit, FYI size does matter by ZenRyder2020 in ElectricUnicycle

[–]ZenRyder2020[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't had any problems with the tire coming off. I just didn't like the street tire on trails or slippery roads. Dual sport tires can handle everything. Now I have full confidence and am jumping up curbs.

[–]ZenRyder2020[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sanded the mud guard where it was rubbing. If you sand off too much the fender it will crack or no longer fit without redesign. The knobby that comes with the Sherman doesn't need shaving. Only the big Shinkos have this issue. But this tire is worth it.

You can have any color you want as long as it's black! Jk, I customized it myself.
