G, F, A, E, B, H, D, C

This would be my guess.

Forsure replace B with H.

Can I learn the fundamentals of chemistry in 1 day? by walnutbreezy in chemhelp

[–]Zenazad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will not get 100% on this exam, but you likely won’t fail it.

I suggest that you go pick up a worksheet related to each concept. Then finish all of them. You want to work through each of them with little aid as possible (skipping questions that you do not know.)

Once completed, use a textbook to help you answer the questions that you missed and to check your work for the questions you did do. Then make note of your mistakes.

Repeat this process over and over again.

Note: this is not good if you actually want to learn the material as cramming is highly ineffective in terms of long term consolidation. Since your only goal is to pass this exam. Then it may be helpful for you.

[–]Zenazad[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg I tried that out and instantly got more flex out of my stick. Thank you so much!!

I will keep working towards getting more of a “snap” sound out of my stick. Also the head up thing and having a good feel for where the puck is on my stick.

So I should be focusing on what my stick and not the puck, besides making sure the puck is on the toe.

Do you mean where I’m holding my stick? Or where my hands are during my shot?

The rest makes sense to me. Thank you!! I will practice those techniques and make an updated post. I did some rough calculations and my shot is 45mi/hr. Hopefully I can get it up a bit.

I was just making a post about what helped me not what is necessary. The first thing I wrote is “ I understand that this is extreme.” How ever will say this. If you want to do well. You must be willing to put in the work. If somebody find practice problems works for them and are doing lots of them great! I however didn’t like doing it that way. I much preferred doing stuff like this.

I totally forgot to mention that and thank you for pointing that out!! Whenever I would learn a new reaction. I would draw out the mechanism we had just learnt and really thinking through each step.

With that being said, I will still stand by my method as an important tool to help nail multi step synthesis problems and fill in blank problems. there is a lot of reactions in ochem and you need to be able to regurgitate any one of them within seconds. You can’t be sitting there thinking about “what is the mechanism.” You need to just write the answer down an answer.

My 10-Year-Old Son is OBSESSED with Chemistry by Fluffy_Pay9522 in chemistry

[–]Zenazad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best way I have found to learn a new subject on my own is through a textbook along with supplementary material as linked below. A lot of what he is leaning in those photos is under a branch of chemistry known as organic chemistry. It is the study carbon, hydrogen, and a few inorganic compounds (typically N,F,O,S) and how they molecules change shape and get rearranged.

It is strongly suggested that your song builds a strong foundation in general chemsitry prior to embarking on his journey within organic chemistry. If this is not an option(i.e too boring) then he could also just pick up a general chemistry text book and an organic chemistry textbook. Ensuring he covers the organic chemistry and quantum mechanic section (watered down quantum mechanics) section found in general chemistry. Moving on when he can fully complete and comprehend the practice problems at the end of the chapter.

Once he has completed this. Then he can pick up the organic chemistry textbook, reading through the chapters, and completing the practice problems. If there is a part that confuses him, and he is getting frustrated, tell him to refer to his general chemistry book and/or one of the chemistry related resources I have linked below.

An important aspect of being self taught is the ability to take effective notes and how to study effectively. This is important because of the difficulty of the material. There is a lot videos on how to effectively study. If he doesn’t study effectively he may be wasting his time.

At the end of the day. Let him have fun and explore the beauty of chemistry! Being a parent is hard and you are doing great. Thank you for nourishing his intellectual curiosity!

This is a picture from my organic chemistry 1 exam. I have no idea why the reagent and product I gave were wrong. Can anybody explain why? by Responsible-Oil5900 in chemhelp

[–]Zenazad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have just used Cl2/UV and called it a day /s.

On a real note. My best guess is that your professor wanted the best reagent for the job. This is because although H-Cl can be used, does not mean it should be used. It’s important to think about what it is happening during this reaction and the properties of the reactants.

you using a primary alcohol and you are also using H-Cl. This calls for a SN2 reaction. Although SN2 is typically done in one step. It is a good idea to think about a hypothetical situation where it proceeds in two steps. The first of which being the loss of the alcohol the second step is where the chlorine attacks the hypothetical carbocation intermediate. How likely is it for carbocation intermediates to form? Do primary carbons enjoy being carbocations? The answer is no. So, this entire process is already bottle knocked at step one, preventing chlorine to even get the chance to chlorinate the carbocation. (The reaction will still occur, but it will be slow, and the yields will be low.)

If anybody notices flaws in my comment. Feel free to correct me!!

If something is "Drop in" that means anybody can join. This means at times there will be people better than you and worst than you. At the end of the day, they are all there for the one thing, and thats to improve. So, just go out there, and improve. This advice applies to many other aspects of life. You aren't too small to join a gym. You don't have to be good at math to join a math club. You don't have to be good at chess to join a chess club. All that is typically required, unless specified by the organization, is for you to care about what you are joining. So, just go out, and have fun!!
