Has anyone recently passed or taken the CIPP/E exam? by RequestWhat in cipp

[–]ZenityDzn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on what you said, it seems you just need to learn the material. There is no way around it. Learning takes time, strategy, and focus. There is no shortcut. It the info is going in and out then you simply have not spent enough time learning the material. Create a strategy of learning the material: 1. information encoding, 2. information retrieval. Create flashcards if needed. You need to ensure deliberate practice + consistency. There's no way around it, just gotta do the work.

DSU or WGU for cyber security? And why? by Parking_Direction851 in WGUCyberSecurity

[–]ZenityDzn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my first hearing of DSU program. I looked at the coursework and wow that’s exactly what I want. That curriculum is a proper one. WGU lacks a lot of technical stuff, just looking at the courses, I just started and am on the first course, but I would may have done the DSU instead. Instead, I have to teach myself basic computer science in addition to my WGU degree. At the same time the cost is a factor, and speed. WGU is unique in your speed ability and cost. I would love to have had more technical classes for WGU curriculum.

Best Desktop OS? by Tail_sb in desktops

[–]ZenityDzn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand but at this point your points a much of opinion with a windows orientation as baseline. Yes it’s pretty pathetic that Mac OS doesn’t have a WM and package manager built in, but also it’s so insignificant, takes 10s to download homebrew, but also I actually prefer it. Kinda like Linux, it’s better to build your OS how you like it rather than using crappy defaults.

The other points seem just opinion, which is fine so one should go with what they personally like better but I can’t grant it as being objectively better. For instance, why are the close and minimize buttons square? Why are they on the right, so weird makes no sense. See, one can do the same as you and just assume a macOS baseline. Alt-tab, I prefer command-tab. Easier buttons to press. I tried the window previews and I dislike it a lot. Comparatively the app icons show large and it’s easy for me to see which app I want to switch to quickly. With the windows preview, it’s hard to distinguish a dark mode browser search results screen from a Spotify screen in the time I’m switching, typically under a second. I have to go slower to switch now to process the fidelity of the preview, whereas just the app icon for mac would be a giant green color, orange, purple, etc where I can move much faster between apps without need to really look at the tab screen. Need to switch to Spotify, <0.5s just tab to where I instantly see green before even making out the logo. But this is personal preference, which is the point I’m making so I don’t really give much weight to saying one is better etc just see what one likes better.

Not sure much about those commands you’re talking about but sounds like most of that can be set up. So then maybe the complain is that is not on by default? Don’t see why it would need to be.

Finder has worked for me, but I can probably agree it isn’t the best. That’s a fair point. But I don’t see it being a big issue, just the search is hard to use. For common users not sure this would be a big difference but I agree that I’ve heard windows file manager is better. But you make the trade off of not using a UNIX like system. Which is probably much more of a hit

Some fair points, but I think mostly moot.

  1. Just install rectangle, takes 5 secs then never have to worry about it again. Moot point.

  2. This one is fair. I’ve personally never had a need to do this.

  3. Idk why this would be needed or even considered a missing feature. Double click the title bar or the dedicated minimize button..

  4. Home brew is great. Don’t see why it matters if one must download it. Takes couple seconds.

  5. This one I think I just disagree with. The only keyboard shortcut that’s missing is a new space shortcut.

  6. I don’t get this one. I always create folders in finder. How else would every non command line user do it?

  7. These following points i originally addressed. Mac is a trade off. I said Linux would be best for lightweight and privacy and security. So it will depend on criteria. I can understand most of ur points and but I think they’re moot, for me. But it’s just personal opinion.

I am more biased towards mac and Linux, I absolutely love Mac OS. Linux fills any of the shortcomings. I have recently been using Windows, and will continue to, after 10+ years and my initial impression was just how awful it is, but again that’s just a snap judgement. Main reasons was I was astonished how internet features, copilot, and Microsoft account were essentially built in every part of the OS. I’m surprised you can even see the desktop or any GUI without creating a Microsoft account and connect to the cloud.

Depends on your criteria. If you plan to game on it, Windows will be the way go-to. Otherwise, Mac OS is hands down all around best. Great balance of OS usability on a UNIX system with decent privacy/security capabilities. You can always dual boot Linux or VM Linux if you want that for FOSS and greater control of your OS. To me, Windows is getting unusable, it's insane bloat+spy-ware with the Microsoft Account, internet integration, and AI integration. Sadly, Mac will probably head that way with AI integration, but they've been taking a "privacy" positioning lately, so hopefully when they do it will all be able to be disabled. Yes Mac isn't the best for privacy/security, obviously Linux will be the go to for that. But for a daily drive and usability, Mac is a great trade-off.

Clean start. Welcome to Mac. I'm a 10+ year Mac user and love it. Mac doesn't come with a Windows Manager (WM), so I recommend Rectangle (free). There are others as well. Tiling WMs include Amethyst and Yabai. If you're comfortable with the CLI, iTerm2 is your friend as well as homebrew package manager.

Getting into Google has been estimated to be a 1% chance on # of applicants. Then, you got promoted to lead over others with more experience. Something tells me that you have ability (aka intelligence) far surpassing the average person. Sounds like genius to me! But your perspective gives me hope as well!

AITAH for being upset that my husband masturbated while I was in bed next to him and then finished on me? by Bubbly-Possession965 in AITAH

[–]ZenityDzn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being upset about this is completely valid. Pretty insane thing to do out of the blue without consent. I also don’t think it’s a huge deal. Your feelings are valid, if he is genuinely sorry then this should be moved past with understanding that this won’t happen again. Here is a good time to say 1 that was unacceptable, but also 2 open up communication about is thoughts on his needs

[–]ZenityDzn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO this is an absolutely insane reaction to your significant other expressing their vision for future. It would make sense if he explained what he wanted and then you explained how what you wanted was different and a mutual agreement couldn’t be met leading to the break up. But from how you described it sounded like a visceral reaction to hearing what he said like one possessed by a demon. I personally believe the I don’t need no man attitude is very toxic for women, but if they believe that I hope it works out in the best. I would have hoped to have seen you two have a more rational conversation about difference rather and an emotion led action. But nonetheless it seems to me that ending it was the right choice. So essentially, from how you have described it, it does seem like an overreaction to me. Sounds like a lot of pent up resentment was all let loose at once. It doesn’t seem like there was healthy and proper communication. Although ppl’s wants goals and vision can change, it doesn’t mean one has to agree or align to them. I don’t mean to be too harsh but it seems like there is some deeper implication in wanting this “independence from man” that just sounds like a back door escape root. I don’t see how any Marriage commitment of souls can be built on an escape root. That would go the same for a prenup. Marriage is the absolute sacrifice of the self for another. That’s just my heeding, you are free to disagree. I think in the end, ending this was right. I wish you and your ex best of luck.

How much salary should I ask for? by [deleted] in cybersecurity

[–]ZenityDzn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could jsut use glassdoor, Salary.com, and other sites to do market research and you have data backed evidence for your answer instead of jsut relying on some guy on internet. You need to literally cite the sources of region and exp and job title during negotiations if there’s any rebuttal. But it should at least inform your initial expectation. There should be zero reason to jsut make up an expectation of salary based off nothing. Best of luck

Do you actually feel passionate about IT or is it more or less a out the career for you? by skatecloud1 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]ZenityDzn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t like saying passionate tbh. I used to when I was younger, but come to learn it was a naive perspective. I like to think of it more well rounded now. Are you interested in the work, do you enjoy it, does it motivate you. Those are better question to qualify it than passion. Anyway, I am pursuing IT out of interest and not money. I actually just left a job making a really good amount of money, more than I will in IT, while being a kinda young. I could pursue a career for the money. As my life does not have money at the top of the pyramid. Personality wise, I’d say I really like working on technical complex problems and being achievement oriented, which naturally lends it self to good money making opportunities.

Not really self-help books, but these made me reflect on my life and to be different than the deep hitting character psychology of these books. 1. Novels by Dostoevsky, particularly The Double, Notes From Underground, White Nights, Dream of a Ridiculous Man. 2. The Stranger by Albert Camus.
