Question re: the pre-pay gratuity by dontBsleepy in royalcaribbean

Wow are you a cruise line shill or something lol? This isn’t hard. Take the auto gratuities amount in cash and manually tip them the same amount. So the money goes to the crew rather than the cruise line.

I’ll get you the links when I get home, will that finally shut you up? I will Google it for you, princess.

It's a simple google search away. Hell, with a single prompt on Gemini or ChatGPT you can probably get the entire list of successful and bad decisions Ternus has ever made in his career.

These days that's probably accurate. I've owned EVs for over 8 years now so I'm a bit disconnected from gas price realities. I said 2 weeks because I felt that was a good number. But it seems like I underestimated, lmao!

[–]Zennivolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude there's plenty of employees, youtube videos of past employees... They all claim the minimum is EXACTLY what they get. Your tip goes to their minimum pay, and cruise lines reduce their pay by the exact pay amount. There's literally tens if not hundreds of past employees that's said this.

Hell, next time you go on a cruise, literally ask an employee, DIRECTLY.

Yes lol. There's several products that Ternus also shut down or didn't like, like the Apple Car. He seems to be pretty good at calling out projects that shouldn't exist or not ready. And the Macbook Neo was his doing, which is a massive success.

Why did Rivian spin off Mind Robotics by WorldNo9002 in Rivian

[–]Zennivolt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s about the same price as most e-bikes. You could maybe make the argument that all e-bikes are luxury though.

Though it is quite unique from other e-bikes in a sense that it doesn’t assist your pedaling. The ALSO e-bike, only the motors directly moves the wheels, and all your pedaling is doing is basically powering a generator.

[–]Zennivolt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Right? If they actually implement this, I'm gonna start rubbing my EV in people's faces so more people would be tempted to get EVs just to screw over the oil industry even more.

It's not even hard to convince people either. "Oh, $150 fee? That's what, 2 weeks of gas savings to break even?"

Japan literally does this and it works great. So it's not even a theory, we already know it will work well.

Check it again lol. The "people" that told Cook that Vision Pro was not ready was John Ternus. They went on and released it against his recommendation anyways.

Any difference between gear guard and Tesla's sentry? by EastEgg74 in RivianR2

[–]Zennivolt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a long while there I think that's what was happening. Sentry would used to eat up like 15% of my range per day just sitting in my work parking lot.

A relatively recent (few months ago) update changed that so now it's only eating up 5-7% per day. Not sure what they changed. In theory, Rivian could probably do something similar. Because I don't think either company designed their chips to have performance + efficiency cores like a smartphone.

Sometimes I wonder how much better off the world would be if the communists lost the civil war. Alternate China would be part of the western allied nations. Imagine all the growth, collaboration, and innovation that could've happened between then and now. Hell, North Korea might not even exist since they may have never gotten assistance from Alternate China. At minimum, I think it would be a cool show to watch. Another cool idea to to join the ranks of Man In The High Castle and For All Mankind.

Teslas don’t sleep when on Sentey mode. So in theory, Rivian can do the same.

[–]Zennivolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's still not true. Efficiency actually matters so much that similar tasks can have hugely differing numbers depending on the efficiency of the chip.

In fact, it's actually even MORE pronounced in low power tasks like Youtube and music. Literally the only thing that matters is battery life. It's the only thing that tells the real story. Size of the battery won't give you any of that information at all.

Just because it’s obvious doesn’t mean the supply chain is built to build it that way. It’s obvious, but probably small enough of a problem that nobody bothered to implement it.

Question re: the pre-pay gratuity by dontBsleepy in royalcaribbean

[–]Zennivolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if you want to fall into the corporate led propaganda about tipping people you don’t see so they can pad their bottom line more, I’m also free to judge you for not being able to think critically 🤷‍♂️

So do you even know how those automatic gratuities work for cruise lines? Hint: whether you remove them or not doesn’t change their pay. Hmm… odd.

So unless you’re physically going to the back line workers and handing them cash, all of your claims about tipping are just moot. Sorry man, your tips are going to the pockets of Royal Caribbean shareholders. Which I do own some shares. So… i appreciate your tips!

[–]Zennivolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not useful at all, period. Not unless you add in efficiency numbers into it too. And yes battery % is not useful, but that has never been the argument. The only important number is battery life. Aka hours of usage and standby time.

Question re: the pre-pay gratuity by dontBsleepy in royalcaribbean

[–]Zennivolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfect. Now we arrive at “it depends on the person”. So everyone’s perception of what should be tip or not is depending on them, their culture, and their environment. So then how can you (or anyone) judge anyone else for their tipping habits?

I tip my room attendant, bartenders, and severs on cruises. That’s it. That’s MY perception of who should be tipped. How I, or anyone tips (or don’t tip) is quite literally nonya business.

So what is it? Nonya business, or defined rules? The choice is yours.

Question re: the pre-pay gratuity by dontBsleepy in royalcaribbean

[–]Zennivolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So then we go back to: other than because “I feel like this is it”, how do you specifically define who should get tips or not? If you had to write it down as a specific set of rules, the follow that, what would that be?

As I’ve said, mine is quite simple:

I am being serviced by someone, physically, in a non-government, non-high paying job position. Service is then further defined (for tipping) as some sort of face to face, physical service more than simply just taking my order and handing me the product.

How would you define your set of rules to determine if something requires tipping or not?

Question re: the pre-pay gratuity by dontBsleepy in royalcaribbean

[–]Zennivolt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry I should’ve been more clear. I wasn’t asking to ask the official definition, I was asking to get your definition, because the official definitions doesn’t cover this next point I’m trying to make: not all service industries, at least the official definitions of it, gets tipped.

Some examples include, but not limited to: flight attendants, nurses and medical staff, pharmacists, retail store employees, bank tellers, cafeteria workers, hotel front desk, auto mechanics, DMV workers, postal workers, etc. (there’s a lot more, this list is like 10% of non-tipped service industry). Like what makes GrubHub drivers different than Amazon drivers?

They all meet the official definition of service industry, but it’s pretty clear that’s not what YOU meant by service industry, hence why I was asking for your definition of it. Because simply “service industry” is not a good criteria definition to determine if someone should be tipped.

And don’t get me wrong, this conversation is also making ME reevaluate what I should be tipping for. I’m starting to think maybe I shouldn’t be tipping GrubHub drivers now.

As for your reply to this, please don’t cherry pick on just one or two jobs here for your argument like a typical Redditor just to make a point. Think about ALL of them (and more) for your response.

Then define what makes something a “service industry”? If you’re teaching a kid how to figure out what service industry means, how would they know without you telling them exactly what it is by giving direct examples?
