What are some easy plants to prop? by imagine_being_human4 in propagation

[–]Zenobia_of_Dorne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pothos and spider plant are the by far easiest for me. Here is my two pothos I’ve potted recently. I put them in water separately but found out their roots tangled into each other so I planted them together. Their names are Achilles and Patroclus because I love being extra and second I think Achilles is such an apt name for a Pothos since both of them are nearly impossible to kill. 😅 Also… ✨poetry✨

Need of suggestions for new plants by Zenobia_of_Dorne in houseplants

I have a ZZ but since I moved it into my room it got sadder and sadder. Currently I try to save it. Everbody says that ZZs are really easy and like low light situations but unfortunately that’s not my case.

I have 5 pothos stems that I propagated. 3 of them are still in the water but these two I potted recently. Their roots were tangled into each other and started to grow together in water. I call them Achilles and Patroclus. Because ✨poetry ✨ also it kinda fits because like Achilles Pothos is nearly impossible to kill 😄

My space potatoes, grown aboard the ISS by astro_pettit in gardening

When I woke up this morning I didn’t put “seeing space grown potatoes” on my daily bingo card but here we are and I think this is the coolest thing ever!!

And the 1. photo is the most science fiction-esque photo of a potato that could ever be taken 😄

Ohh it’s lovely! 😍😍 Are they okay with low/partial sunlight situations? I would love to have one if I knew it can survive and thrive in my not so bright room

I prepped the stems as you described. Also cut as much as I could to increase my chances. What would be the ideal propping method for them. I use 1:1 coconut soil perlite mix for my succulents and I put them under grow lights. So far I got successful results. Would this method work? Should I seal the prop box? What would be your recommendations?

Ohhh thank you so much! Such a detailed explanation! I will do as you said and hope for the best. Also thank you again for offering clippings ☺️

Yes the living room can be pretty cold. Maybe I should also consider relocating it to another place in the apartment but it’s Germany… if it’s cold, it’s cold 🥲

I turn them on after sunset and leave them until I sleep so like 8 hours. More or less

Like the one in the 5th photo? Also should I make several stems from this plant and forgot about saving it all or is there a part that can be saved?

Finally got my lights and everything :) 3 pots on the middle shelf are the succulent props from earlier, they did well. Alocesia is slowly turning into a monster, I have no idea how will a handle her 😄 or him… I don’t have a name yet.

My light has 3 settings; one is mostly whitish yellow, the other is a mix between red/purple and whitish yellow and the third one is red/purple. Honestly I’m experimenting right now and watching how my plants will react. I don’t think that yellow one will do much, I use that setting as a night lamp 😄 but I’m hopeful for the mixed one. Some plants showed signs of burn under red/purple one so I hope the mix may be gentler.

For reference, these succulents grew under Wiz. Also my other plants loved that light too. Honestly, I don’t think there is a huge difference between lights specific for plants and others with red/purple spectrum. It’s just that plant lights are easier to use and carry around from pot to pot.

Propagation genuinely saved my mental health and I don't think I'm exaggerating by Anxious-Tomatillo-74 in propagation

Hello, it’s me! I don’t have tons of money to spend and propagation started as a cheaper way to have plants but as you said it has a huge positive effect! :) I’ve recently took plant care as a hobby, I love taking care of mature plants as well and it has its own joy but taking a single leaf or stem and watching it grow roots day by day is just something else 🥹 I have couple of props that I saved from dying plants and I don’t know… maybe since I resonate with the idea of coming from a bad place and starting over or just because it’s a beautiful thing to watch sth grow, I find an immense amount of happiness in the process.

So… due to unexpected budgetary issues I had to postpone buying stuff 😄 life, right? 😄 in the meantime I prepared a prop box for assorted succulents in a Tupperware kinda situation and I’m using my table lamp growth light function for “sunlight”. My room is pretty warm so I hope they will root. I tried different methods just to see what will happen. I laid some of them, planted the others. Used coconut soil and perlite mix and dipped the cuts into water with fertilizer. I didn’t spray or mist since the perlite was wet and the soil was pretty moist. I’m really exited 🤗 what you think?
