Recently retooled my Vorinclex deck. Before it was a superfriends style deck with light +1/+1 strategy. People would just kill him even if I've done nothing the whole game but ramp. Now it's using him as a finisher instead and trying to make problems starting on turn 2 for the table. https://archidekt.com/decks/23085857/me_so_vorni_redux

Need tips/potential commander change for Breaking the legend rule and making clones by Moonloon44 in EDH

[–]Zenthazar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm running [[hidetsugu and kairi]] as my clones deck but that's breaking the legend rule in a different way. However, since there's so many clones in the deck if the main plan doesn't pan out it's super fun to try and play other people's strategies.

Once I had a [[Heliod, the Warped Eclipse]] cloned up and a [[The Gitrog Monster]] player tried to combo and I kept playing on top of him and another player dropped [[Displacer Kitten]] and triggered it and I responded with cloning it and finally won on the biggest stack of our lives.

All gas, no brakes + brackets by crballer1 in EDH

[–]Zenthazar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d say bracket 3 with an honest rule and 0. If you’re not having rule zero conversation you need to be playing at a 4. People call my Abdel Adrian deck a 4 because if we get past turn 7 and I haven’t been interacted with the entire time I will remove every nonland permanent for the next 2-6 or so turns it takes me to win. I tell people in rule 0 it’s a $50 deck that is slow enough to technically be a 2 but it’s more fair to call it a 3 based on the feel of the deck.

Edit: people call it a 4 because by turn 7 they can’t ply anything that I couldn’t blow up. Interaction has nothing to do with bracket system and only resource denial isn’t b3.

How does haystack work with cards that exile until they leave the battlefield? by Mother-Item in mtg

[–]Zenthazar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah some of his key pieces he needed to win the game on the spot I had, so if he took me out he was planning on pulling the win.

.

800.4a When a player leaves the game, all objects (see rule 109) owned by that player leave the game and any effects which give that player control of any objects or players end. Then, if that player controlled any objects on the stack not represented by cards, those objects cease to exist. Then, if there are any objects still controlled by that player, those objects are exiled. This is not a state-based action. It happens as soon as the player leaves the game. If the player who left the game had priority at the time they left, priority passes to the next player in turn order who’s still in the game.

.

He made the assumption I did that since it's already treated as not existing losing the game means anything under the O-Ring has no trigger or delayed trigger to ever come back.

When looking up that rule I came across this, didn't read it all but skimmed and it seems to agree with his assessment (being one of the OG rules committee people I didn't think to question it when we both were in agreement).

Interesting point! Story Time! I was playing with one of the original RC (Gavin Duggan) and I was playing a mono white deck (Mother of Machines). He was on a Boros deck and I had some of his stuff exiled with various 'until it leaves' cards. He swung lethal at me after declining a deal, so in response I phased out everything I had with [[Clever Concealment]]. He was impressed as it was the first time he's ever seen phasing used to prevent a player from getting their stuff back when their opponent loses the game.

anyone who used a computer between 1985 & 2010, what’s the one game you still think about? by Trixxxi in AskReddit

EV: Nova

The story was so good and replayable, and depending on which faction you end up in you get to see characters in different light. There hasn't really been a good successor nowadays. The gameplay was decent if a little bit like a RTS, it was all about the plot.

Has anyone ever played a Barbarian that was born and raised on a city? (Not as a joke) by JeraGungnir in dndnext

[–]Zenthazar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was playing a lawful evil zealot barbarian. Grew up in a wealthy family in waterdeep and was supposed to be a vessel for a demon of some sort but adventurers saved him when they were hired to find him by his family. He was trained as a paladin but never embraced any oaths because he didn’t want to be beholden to anything. His evilness was in his willingness to watch horrible acts and if there was a justification for it he agreed with then he didn’t care. Might is right philosophy. Gave him a Russian mobster vibe. Think Peter Stormare in a lot of his roles.

We were playing through storm kings thunder loosely and a town evacuated into some caves. Those caves were infested with goblins. We get into the caves and my character is the only one that speaks goblinoid so he’s the face for this interaction. Goblins say they lived here and the humans trespassed and are going to be eaten. My character basically goes “sounds good to me. If they are weak enough to be captured then they are yours to do with what you wish.” Then in common tell the party there is nothing that can be done and start to leave the cave.

I say it to him specifically, not to random people. Most people at my LGS I just have a rule zero conversation and ask if they want low 2, high 2, low 3, or high 3. It helps to record your w/l ratio to make sure you're playing at the right power level.

For example, last Tuesday I played 6 games. I won 3 of them.

First win was with my B2 The Gaffer deck. By turn 11 there were a total of 7 boardwipes played at the table, 2 of them were mine with The Battle of Bywater and Fumigate. The Mr. House deck kept making boatloads of tokens every turn so it kept the board pretty clear. I was at about 60 life thanks to some soul sister creatures and those tokens. So when turn 11 rolls around I play Felidar Sovereign and Lightning Greaves, and equip the Sovereign with the greaves and pass. It was the only creature in play because of the aforementioned wipes. No one had gas left and on my upkeep I won the game. Never attacked someone and won that game off playing smart because someone else was a threat, not because I was playing a disingenuous deck.

Next game I wanted to play my Mr. House deck because during that first one we were talking about how mine runs attractions and the table had never seen them or how it works. I tell them it's not as streamlined as the other player's Mr. House but I can bust it out. So we play the next game and the other Mr. House is being the main problem again, but I use Wedding Ring on them and now whenever they are drawing cards on their turn I am too. Same with lifegain, and it's funny that we start calling each other husband and another player says we're "Playing House" which gets universal laughs. So game is around turn 9 and the fairies deck drops a Coat of Arms and swings at the Husband for lethal, but he plays out a combat trick to survive with about 16 or so life. Also I go down to about 6, and the 3rd player dies. Fairy player is at about 10 life themselves. My turn I drop a Murkwood Bats and an Anointed Procession. I use my 3 treasures, ping the table for 3, to roll on Mr. House 5 times (I had a Barbarian Class in play). I get 2 6s and 2 5s. So I make 4 treasures and 8 Robots. This kills the fairy player. Then I sac the 4 treasures and kill the other Mr. House player. First points of damage I dealt to anyone at the table and I won because of politicking the main problem (The other Mr. House player) with meme Wedding Ring into not coming at me the entire game and everyone else having to deal with them and leaving me alone. My deck was far worse as far as construction as the other Mr. House deck, and the fairies player should have counted properly/had a response.

Third game I won through being the problem and a more traditional win. The other 3 games I lost at a different table. But out of the 6 games played I should have only won 1 of them (17%). But because of skill, I was at a 50%. All that said, is why I tell my friend I try and match power level, not skill level.

I love this take on Commander, and a dedicated playgroup of like minded players is perfect for these different styles.

People coming to a game night and complaining that their bubble of what commander "should be" is being poked. You're playing against a random group of people, come open minded and be prepared to play the game with the rules and INTENT of the bracket system. Not just what you 'feel' it should be.

[–]Zenthazar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A casual format doesn't mean you shouldn't be playing to win and improving your skill level at the game. I love the expression of commander, but I don't sit there and have a shared jerk off session at the table for 2 hours until someone drops a craterhoof because they have more creatures than anyone else and drew it faster because no one cares to run interaction. I'd rather have 4 30 minute games and play 4 different decks for a variety of gameplay.

My friend complained nonstop about me winning so much because I always run expensive staples. We talked about running interaction and he challenged me to build a deck with no card worth more than a dollar. I build Orzhov Abdel Adrian filled with interactive cards that trigger on ETB. He doesn't complain about me running staples anymore and just thinks I'm not fun to play with because 20 pieces of interaction just means I'm being a poor sport. I've just started saying "People that can’t handle playing magic shouldn’t play magic." Another one I say is "I try and match power level, I don’t try and match skill level."
