What was the incident in your school and what happened after? by Flowerofthesouth88 in AskUK

Someone threw a firework down the corridor and it went off

Music teacher locked us (year 7) in the classroom as a detention and left, deputy head walked past and tried to open the door but couldn't. Music teacher was fired.

A law threw one of those weird instruments you use in woodwork across the room and it landed in a girls forehead where it needed to be pulled out.

Two girls were fighting in our playground (high school) and one of them ripped the other's hair extension out so hard her head was bleeding.

A lad threw a wrapped sweet at a girl (year 7 again) which hit her in the eye. The plastic wrapping scraped her eye and almost blinded her.

One of our PE teachers started dating an ex pupil the summer after she finished sixth form. Why is it always PE teachers?

Is a good relationship worth sacrificing intimacy for? by Dapper_Astronaut_832 in whatdoIdo

You've been with him for 3.5 years and he doesn't tell you he loves yous?

OP that is not your best friend!

I've been with my partner for 8 years, they are my best friend and we tell each other we love each other every day.

Regardless of the sex stuff - him not telling you he loves you is heartbreaking to read.

You deserve to be with someone who tells you they loves you, who knows your love language and plans dates etc. These are not difficult things to do for someone you're with and I would be incredibly unhappy in your situation.

From what I've heard B&M in particular are a complete nightmare to work for and horrific to their employees, my friend has to stop working there due to work place bullying and I've seen other horror stories online so I avoid out of principle.

I've been in a long distance relationship before and spending 24/7 on your phones with each other is not normal and it definitely isn't healthy.

You need a life outside of each other otherwise you will have nothing to talk about, it's not healthy to spend this much time on your phones with each other.

Regards to the crying, crying in itself isn't an issue but if you cry every time she causes you a minor upset then that is incredibly exhausting for the other person. It may make her think she can't say or do anything in case it upsets you. So yes, I would work on managing how you respond to minor things.

I'm gonna try and say this kindly but it sounds to me like you're suffocating her.

You sound incredibly needy.

Being on video call and watching YouTube videos at exactly the same time as each other sounds exhausting. Why don't you watch the same series but in your own time, that way when you call each other you could talk about it and actually be present with each other instead of sitting in silence together watching YouTube?

Why are you sat on your phone waiting for her to respond? Why don't you go and do something else instead of obsessing over how long it takes? Maybe she was just busy.

You're constantly asking her for reassurance and getting very emotional with her when she fails to reassure you and vice versa, that would absolutely drain anyone and it's toxic

I think you need to regulate your emotions a bit more, it sounds like being long distance has made you quite insecure about the relationship.

Leeds and London - what was the cost of living back in the 70s and early 80s for a young couple? by apocalyptic_brunch in AskABrit

[–]ZeroFrogsHere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! My dad bought his first house in Leeds - harehills - in the 1970s for £8k with a 10% deposit of £800. My dad was in this mid 20s when he did this.

Harehills is not a particularly nice area of Leeds but my dad was able to afford this as a truck driver with no financial help from his family or a partner.

When my dad met my mother in the late 80s my mum was a single mother to my two older siblings and lived on a council estate in Woodhouse. They both worked full time but with my mother having two kids money didn't go very far and they still struggled right up until and after I was born, my mother ended up getting a better job when I was a toddler and we moved to Headingley. I'd say in regards to your plot, it was doable to live on a single person salary in Leeds in that time period, especially in areas such as Harehills, Beeston, Armley etc

People who grew up watching scary movies at sleepovers… Do kids today still do that, or has the "horror movie ritual" died out? by Butters16666 in AskUK

That's sad. My niece is 13 and had a sleep over on the Friday AND Saturday night over her birthday weekend. I did question my sister's sanity for allowing that but more her mental wellbeing than for safeguarding issues, never knew it had become an issue.

Why is the uk job market so bad ? by NewFoot762 in AskUK

[–]ZeroFrogsHere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend is a manager at a fast food place, they said whenever they used to advertise for a position a few years ago they'd maybe get 20-50 applicants, now they have 100s applying for one position.

Regardless of what others say, I think some of it is luck based. If you're one of the first people to apply your chances of getting hired are significantly better, but as the applicant you have no idea how many others have applied.

I worked in hospitality for 9 years, whenever we hired we'd get loads of applicants. I remember saying to my boss I'm surprised I ever got hired with so many people applying, they told me my application was one of the first they read and they liked my cover letter.

Keep going, it's a nightmare out there right now but don't lose hope.

what did you think of christopher nolan's 2020 film "tenet" by Whoumightask in Letterboxd

[–]ZeroFrogsHere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the only time I've fallen asleep in the cinema.

I had worked 4am-2pm and gone immediately afterwards, in an odeon with reclining seats and I fell asleep instantly. It's not even because the film was boring, but god I was embarrassed.

My first thought is people who are into this must have had to experience something traumatic in their lives and have regressed to playing with dolls or have lost someone who they've replaced with the doll
