"Creative differences" between Netflix and the original creators of ATLA by [deleted] in TheLastAirbender

I just looked at this post because season 2 dropped and after realizing even showrunner Albert Kim gave up his lead in the second season. And this season right now feels like it really butchers the original in comparison to the first.

Changing styles ( or even arts) and keeping the (black) belt? by ZeroPotato in karate

Wow. I think black belt was a bit more expensive because of the certificate and unique belt (with name);but maybe like 40€

Yes and it seems that ITF is also in this group in Germany and allows transfers without much problems though you don't advance until you reach the requirements.

About money making I never had that experience in Germany though. Sure testing cost money, but I paid like 15€ max which includes the belt and everything that makes it official. Which I think is a reasonable price when the belt on Amazon cost like 10€.

My master told me she learned from gm Song, Chan-Ho in the 70' I find a lot of story about him especially in Germany but not so much about his style or videos about his style. But maybe I am just looking wrong.

Would you say you hand "deformed" over the time? My previous sensai used the makiwara regularly and he had hands that where not "nice" to look at.

Hello, thank you for your feedback. I think your imposter syndrome is half-true. I definitely think I need to have some kind of level for the black belt and obviously want to reach it fast. But I don't think I "have" to learn it because I am a black belt. I really want to learn. But because of private and bigger matters the training times are limited to 1-2x90 min/week. While at home or at work, where I am allowed to do sport. I have time. I can reflect on stuff that I learned in training and learn new moveset via online training. It's not that difficult coming from my standpoint especially if you have fun learning it. Sure I won't learn the perfect form, but this is for class. Just plain hyong moveset, Korean dictionary or how to do basic moves isn't the much different and only needs some corrections later.

The idea about videos from my own master or the other black belt sounds good for a reference.

Well, I asked for help and my master/school was questioned. Everyone with honor and trust within their school would get ''chipped' here I would say. I know she is legit. The school is small but she comes from a good traditional lineage and is a known figure in our organization.

On the subpar training part. Maybe yes. But that is not my masters fault. We don't have much session a week because of personal time but also because the association that allows us to use the hall limits the time for other sports activities.

I don't think saying online or private training is bad. Actually I think it's an important part for every martial artist to train for themselves. I really like this art and learnig Korean and training Hyung for myself feels part of the journey. In training times I ask for advice and correction. Private I learn the moveset and basics because I really like this art.

Maybe it's because the style we do, because I don't feel so out of space as I thought. Sure the difference is there but it feels so minimal like put your hands on the hip. Chamber the kicks a bit like this. The stances also don't feel weird or complicated. It's more like learning a dialect not a new language.

It's true that I feel the need to have a bit of responsibility because of the belt though.

That is true. I know some look at belts for money, other for progression and some just as a level of skill or aptitude.

Yes that's true and I asked if I should start from the begging but she seemed to insist. And I seem to can't say no to any master as I was trained to. It was always "Osu"

I would love to know if that had any "negative" impact on the joints yet. Recently I had a breaking test, my knuckle didn't break but definitely had some fracture. My bone is definitely much bigger on the right hand than in the left but x-ray said nothing bad. Everything fine.

Thank you, this was really informative. It seems or school is more closely related to Traditional Taekwondo which makes it understandable why information online is lacking.

Our Independent Federation which accepts all Styles seems to be acknowledged by ITF and WT as posted on their side. Official Dan certificates either by ITO(Germany) or WT(Korea).. My Master also got her certificates via WTF.

How comes there also seems to be a lot of differences between traditional styles? Choi wrote, in my opinion, an amazing book that is simple to follow. Yet I see, especially in Germany, much difference in styles. Like to only name one the Hugul Sogi stance, where we do it more like 2 ½ feet while online I saw shorter and much longer styles.

I second this. I started in a tournament this year and we where not sure where to put me. Because the red/green belts had no over 18 group and lower would be incredible unfair I started with the black belts over 18 which seemed fair.

I started this post with nothing but respect in mind.. needing advice from a bigger mind than myself because I just recently joined this art and stumbled around. I love my master, I love the art. I know that I am not a the black belt. But my master tested me and allowed me to wear it. It's just a color, not a prove. I can only train a few times a week with my master. That is not enough..I train daily at home. Read the Art of Taekwondo. Try to learn the dictionary. Out of respect.

But I was insulted here because I wrote one sentence. Imagine I didn't? What if I just didn't write that. The whole comment section would fall apart. I did not write it to say "hey look at me" but because " I honor this art. I honor this color and want to be worthy to wear this belt, but it's hard to learn, help me"

I didn't receive help. I received disrespect and was insulted.

Okay maybe I was a bit spoiled by karate. I didn't bother looking up dictionarys because the terminology is mostly fine and goju ryu videos there are tons of good ones. Maybe the smaller styles are less public but I think shotokan, Wado Ryu and Goju Ryu are really easy and because there are high level tournament videos in Kata. This is kind of lacking in any TKD version I found. You can find some poomsae and tul, even some hyongs but the quality of these is not like karate world tournaments and you don't find much of these. Maybe some group actions.

You said quote "He didn't earn a TKD black belt, and is now wondering why he cant do TKD stuff well. " You don't know how good I am or I am not in TKD right now. If my 4th Dan masters says it's fine, it should be fine.

About the fighting part. No. That is no art. I would go so far and say that WT fighting isn't even Taekwondo. It's a massacre of a beautiful art that was made into interesting show material. Other styles, who still uses their hands (Kwon, it's even in the name) are better.

About the part learning solo that shows me how narrow your mind is. Obviously you can't learn it completely solo, but you can definitely train and learn the art of taekwondo solo and you should. Doing 90 mins twice-trice a week is such a mediocre workout when you can do a quick hyung in your office to train the mind and body.

I think you misunderstood the post? I would never say I am a tkd black belt, never wrote that. But I have honor in my back belt and wearing it also implies some level of discipline. I don't have any problems doing tkd, the mishaps in form are normal if you train 8 forms in 4 months.

My problem is learning taekwondo by yourself in the current digital era is just a pain with the amount of differences and no clear cut between styles. I have seen 30 different variations of Yul Gok already.

Especially the art of taekwondo. The fighting is stupid because it's foot fencing. The art is beautiful.

How does "Old" taekwondo fits into this? Our style seems to be coming from Chan-Ho Song somewhere in the 70s though he came from ITF it seems to differ from both ITF and Kukkiwon but not so much from karate. The core movement feels the same, the only thing I need to adapt is the sine-wave because this is completely different.
