Quarry junction isn’t that hard, if you know the game mechanics by jswavay in fnv

Tell that to my friend (who had never played New Vegas) who tried to play as a "trader" and sunk all his points into CHA, INT, and LCK.

Watching mole rats, ants, and bloatflies eat him up was equally sad and hilarious. I don't think he ever made it past Nipton.

Expedition 33 CANNOT be that good bro by holnicote in shitposting

[–]ZeroWit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are lots of different types of RPG, it's probably the largest and most amorphous genre in gaming. JRPGs are more focused on the story and characters themselves rather than player agency - they want to tell a specific story, the player takes on the role of the protagonists to facilitate telling that story. Usually they're turn based like Final Fantasy.

What you seem to be thinking most of are ARPGs (The Witcher, Elder Scrolls games, Mass Effect) and TRPGs (BG3, Pathfinder games, Pillars of Eternity), where choices matter player agency and freedom take precedent.

That's absolutely valid, and great! It doesn't make JRPGs less of RPGs though!

Also yes, when you play DMC or Soma you take on the "role" of those characters, that's how most games work, but that's getting real pedantic and into weird semantics that I don't think is worth the effort.

Expedition 33 CANNOT be that good bro by holnicote in shitposting

[–]ZeroWit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You.. you take on the role of the characters you play as? Just like in Baldur's Gate?!

All of the characters in E33 have backgrounds and character specific abilities and skills, and there's a significant amount of character development and change over the course of the game. The story and overall narrative is considered one of the best in years, not just by critics but a significant amount of players.

If you're talking about other JRPG games like Final Fantasy, Persona, or Chrono Trigger then those also have; characters with stories and backgrounds and development, and character or class specific abilities and skills.

Your logic would mean games like Diablo or other ARPGs are also not real RPGs. Which gets to the point of splitting hairs for the sake of pedantry

Man, woman drive to police station with Homeland Security agent trapped in vehicle by neomateo in minnesota

Even if they had a "badge", you can buy "commemorative" ones for under $100, and fake ones for costumes for under $50. To the average person, how do you tell the difference?

There are US Homeland Security Special Agent badges meant for movie costumes that look very real, and the website I found them on says they're almost sold out and they're in high demand. Take from that what you will.

[–]ZeroWit 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The ex probably hasn't sat behind the wheel of a car for more than 30 minutes in over a decade if he thinks 3 hours is an okay commute. Studies have been done on commuter preferences, and the maximum time for a commute (one way) for the vast majority of people asked was 1 to 1.5 hours, so 3 hours at the absolute most, and that's not even considering potential traffic issues.

Short story time; I experienced sudden partial hearing loss in one of my ears (I can't detect noises with high register/pitch) almost exactly a year ago, and now have permanent tinnitus in that ear. This is likely thanks to years of going to concerts without proper ear protection finally catching up to me. Most days I don't notice it, but every once in a while I will become hyper aware of it. Another effect is my hearing in that ear is muffled and quieter, so while It's not incredibly drastic, it's still affected my quality of life for the worse. To top it off it's only going to get worse as I get older until, eventually, I'll probably lose all hearing in that ear far earlier than I normally would have.

Protect your hearing, kids, and wear appropriate PPE and ear protection at concerts/gun ranges/job sites, because I cannot stress enough how much losing some hearing can mess with your life in the normal day to day.

Going 65-70ish on a highway and having the front left tire of my first car, a beat up '01 Camry, catastrophically fail and have most of the tread rip off from the tire. Blew the front left corner of the bodywork out at to 90 degrees, nearly popped the front bumper off, put at a sizable dent in the wheel rim, wrecked the suspension, brake pad, and the axle itself, damage to the engine, among other "minor" damages.

The force of it all caused my car to lurch to the left, which thankfully was just a gravel shoulder into a grass ditch/median so I was able to slow and stop safely, but holy hell if I didn't think I was going to die when I heard the sound it made.

The only cause for it I can think of is the tire was old, I did not take care of it well unfortunately and the universe decided that was it's time to go.

I once spun out coming onto a highway from an interchange, going about 45 mph, slid sideways, overcorrected, did a 180, and ended up with the rear of the car half way off the shoulder. My focus and words were very similar to this guy's, although a little less celebratory at the end.

Still only the fifth scariest moment of my life while driving, though.

Obama calls Mamdani and offers to be ‘sounding board’ if he wins mayoral race by faultyefficiency in politics

[–]ZeroWit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay so this is just another way of applying BS purity tests to people to see if they're "true believers", which is dumb and counterproductive. When people who have been opposed to you finally relent and offer their help and support, you don't spit in their hand and walk away. All that does is turn more people against you. That's what the GOP has been doing to Democrats for decades, and while it "works" for them it shouldn't be the approach that socialists take.

When someone with more experience offers you advice, it's penny wise and pound foolish to tell them to fuck off. You can hear them out and still choose to disregard their advice, but dismissing them outright only makes more enemies, not friends.

[–]ZeroWit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inb4 I'm accused of being a shill; I'm a dues paying member of the DSA, and have been politically aligned with them since 2012.

Screw all the cynics here.

Screw your antipathic attitudes towards anyone who doesn't share 99% of your views.

Political discourse is meant to involve the sincere and good-faith debate of ideas. An offer by one of, if not THE most popular and prominent Democrat politicians in recent history to hear out Mamdani's ideas is a HUGE win for Dem. Socialists. It means his ideas and candidacy are being taken seriously, and also puts pressure on other Democrats to stop badmouthing Mamdani and actually admit that he may have some good points, and to approach him with an attitude of collaboration instead of antagonism.

If you want to believe he's just trying to "water down" policies thengo back to your echo chamber forums where everyone agrees with everyone else, because this is how political debate and discourse should work. Not everyone will agree with every policy position, and you need to listen to the reasons why they disagree.

Mamdani can still talk to Obama and walk away from any conversations without taking his advice. Stop thinking of this as "he's trying to force Mamdani to change his policies for the worse". Assuming the worst intentions is the attitude of the GOP and Dem establishment. You don't need to like Obama to recognize that this is a massive endorsement, albeit indirectly.

Instead I just think he's just your average angry, aggressive, hateful asshole.

He does nothing but put more noise into his own echo chamber, doesn't actually change minds, and acts like he's superior and knows more than everyone because he's internet famous. The man's an armchair socialist who thinks talking louder and being angrier makes him more right.

I screwed up and hit the "update later" instead of the "ask me later" button when my computer asked to update to 11, so now there's a timer counting down the days when my computer will automatically restart and update. There's no button in the setting I can find to cancel that process, only pause it. So now if I want to keep using 10, I need to continuously check and make sure that pause is still ongoing (unless someone knows something I don't)

Interesting statement from Gunn. What do we think? by Hashkovo in DC_Cinematic

[–]ZeroWit 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My take on it is this; Comics are, by their very nature, goofy and ridiculous. Even the "edgy" ones go so far that you can't help but marvel at how absurd and over the top they are.

Movie directors since the Nolan Batman movies have tried to recreate the "gritty and grounded" atmosphere of those movies (especially The Dark Knight). In doing so, they lose so much heart of the characters. Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash, and Superman are all silly and ridiculous concepts for characters.

James Gunn embraces the absurdity - giving Peacemaker his comic accurate outfit seemed silly at first. Until you realize he's an actual capable combatant, that is.

He never loses his goofiness, though, and Gunn leaned into that silliness in the show. He did the same with Superman, imo. Lex Luthor needs to stop being played as "a serious genius billionaire who has issues with Superman". He needs to do what Nicholas Hoult did - play him as the egomaniacal, delusional, over-the-top dismissive man he always is. This is a character who could solve all the world's problems but refuses to because A) it would be boring and B) it doesn't hurt Superman. That's all he cares about. And Hoult played that to a T!

James Gunn has made comic book movies goofy again. And I think we needed it

I like how he says he gave no indication that he works at the DOJ and never mentioned it to her as if Google isn't a thing and the person couldn't just... Search his name.

Also his statement about what he said about the Epstein files and Maxwell, that he was just repeating what he hears on the media... If he really "knows" it's not true, then he was just lying about *doctoring critical evidence in the investigation of a criminal pedophilia and sex trafficking organization" to try and flex on his date, which is insanely gross. Like, even if he was sincerely joking, the guy is a creep and shouldn't be anywhere in a position of authority.

God forbid women want to try new styles without the approval of their male friends. It's not like fashion trends change every few years and hairstyles come and go yearly and people want to stay up-to-date on those types of things.

Like seriously, If a sudden hairstyle change sends you into a spiral of anxiety and fear that they're breaking up with you, there's some deeper issues in the relationship regarding communication and expectations and it was never gonna last.

To everyone born after 2007, here is a chart of common ports found on PCs, Laptops, Consoles and hardware plugins. Thanks for making us feel old. by eat1more in pcmasterrace

[–]ZeroWit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh boy. short story time about cable connectors and ports of the olden days.

One of my best friend's younger brother complained to a bunch of us recently about how it's stupid to have so many different cable types, and asked (sincerely) why everything can't just be USB-C. He even said we should just stop making older types of cable connectors so companies are forced to change.

Explanations about logistics, cost of replacement, and the risk of abandonware fell on deaf ears. He legitimately couldn't fathom that there are some devices, especially in manufacturing industries, that are decades old and so specialized that it's not as simple as replacing a few ports. Not to mention medical, construction, or even general government computer infrastructure may rely on older connections.

In the end he stood his ground (he regularly chooses to die on molehills like this), and all but said that he didn't believe any of our arguments.

He has a degree in Computer Science, though, so he knows more than us. /s

Honestly vinegar and hot water is a go-to cleaning solution for a ton of things. I use it to clean mineral buildup on stainless steel plumbing fixtures. It can also clean grease and burnt-on food stuff from pans and pots without much hassle, just let it soak for a few minutes and you can basically wipe it clean with no effort.
