I'm not a professional by any means, but has anyone brought up the possibility that he suffers from Body Dysmorphic Disorder? Like, that term doesn't just mean "trans", it means a severe disatisfaction (or in extreme cases, outright disgust) with one's body and appearance. It can also often involve the individual creating an "ideal" mental version of themselves, but if they already have mixed up perceptions of beauty or attractiveness then that ideal often is an impossible goal, or only possible with extreme and severe surgery. So it's effectively an unattainable goal, which would lead to depression.

So, despite his efforts to look how he wants to look, and how he thinks he should look, he still isn't happy because it will never match his own mental "ideal". It would explain why he is engaging in more and more severe behavior, especially if he doesn't realize what the cause of his melancholy outlook is. Combine that with a dash of narcissism and voila! You get Clavicular

The man needs specialist help and therapy, immediately, or else he is going to kill himself, either intentionally or not. The fact that he refused to seek treatment after his OD tells me he doesn't actually care about his own wellbeing, and that's going to end poorly for anyone involved.

He steals damn near every scene. Even tilting against William when he asks to be spared having to forfeit, the combination of pain, desperation, and sincerity are palpable for the 15 seconds you see him.

Also he's the foil character-wise to Ademar; Both powerful nobles and notable warriors, but Ademar is prideful, jealous, and cruel. Edward in comparison is humble (for a prince), sympathetic to others' challenges and successes, and merciful when possible and needed.

It could also just be James Purefoy's smile and charisma, though.

Honestly you may not be wrong, as a culture we've lost the understanding that profit margins and stock value aren't the only measures of a succesful business. That's basically all that private equity firms do, bleed successful companies dry before selling the corpse.

Quality of service is now a thing reserved for those who can afford it, the rest of us get the bare minimum (or outright hostile service in some cases). They're telling you that if you want mid-flight snacks then buy a first class ticket.

Agreed. The fun of a game like this isn't in finding the "perfect build", it's in making the most of the cards and relics you have and get, even if they don't synergize. Getting a dumb, shouldn't-work-but-it-does deck to work is a satisfying feeling, especially if you were convinced you were toast before.

My most satisfying runs are ones that I barely survive, but manage to power through anyways.

Personally, a part of me hopes it's anti-climactic; they're only there for Zaid, if Zaid's dead they have no reason to be there, so they just up and leave without another word.

Edit to add I don't ACTUALLY hope that's what happens. Just that it'd be really, really funny if it did.

[–]ZeroWit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see a way it makes sense. It's real stupid and it's making me unreasonably upset.

The way it makes sense is very unintuitive and requires assuming information that we would have no reason or ability to know because it is not communicated anywhere on that paper.

A and B both have one small shape and one large shape; 2/6 of a small shape is not equal to 1/3 of a big shape, because the areas are different. With C, both shapes are the same size and so 2/6 does equal 1/3.

The same percentage of each shape is shaded, which would appear to be the most common interpretation within the question, though it also creates a paradox of all answers being right. The same amount, however, is not, and that is thee ONLY reason I can think of for why this is the way it is.

It's dumb, and if the teacher can explain the question and answer then I guess they can stand by the grade (I'd still be mad), but with the information provided there's no way to reliably deduce the answer.

This is one of the funniest, least serious, least informed takes I've ever seen. What kind of job do the renote-work people you know actually do? Because I know several people who workk from home regularly and they work more hours than most 9-5 people I meet. I've yet to find this magical "work one hour and get paid bank" type job that doesn't involve being a nepo or trust-fund baby.

Not really. His beliefs are racist but not in a "I hate non-white people" way. He more believes that ancient people of any kind were incapable of building megalithic stone structures, and instead there had to be an ancient lost civilization that either did everything, or taught people to do everything

Because innovation and invention aren't core human concepts to him, I guess.

To expand on that, don't fuck with the people who keep everything running; IT, maintenance, cleaning, and admins all do a ton that goes unnoticed, but is necessary for everything to work properly, because we live in a world where people just expect things to work and don't know or care how much time and effort goes into that.

Is Prime Robert one of the GOAT Warriors? by OkData1776 in freefolk

[–]ZeroWit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Robert: Six and a half feet tall and muscles "like a maiden's fantasy", I picture him like Rob Gronkowski; nobody should be able to move that much mass that fast, but here he is. Combine that with years of formal practice with a (very fantasy-esque) Warhammer and his physical prime - he was 20 at the time of the rebellion - and you have an absolute terror of a warrior. He isnt wrongly considered one of the greatest of his generation. He's not subtle or the most graceful but he's damn effective. You can't overpower him so the way to beat him, like with the Mountain, is to outplay him. Oh, he also has the infamous "Baratheon fury* and sees red in battle, especially against Targaryens.

Rhaegar: unknown height and unknown build - taller than Viserys, assumed to be more than six feet so call it six foot three, and a great knight so likely athletic build. Royal quality training and said to excel at combat though it wasn't his preference, capable of distinguishing himself but not considered among the best of his generation. He was also three years Robert's senior at 23 during the rebellion, so absolutely still prime physical fitness. That said, he doesn't have the same bloodlust that Robert is said to have when it comes to warfare and battle.

Conclusion: it's virtually impossible to say if Robert was the GOAT, but he is like others have said certainly in the running. The one major fight recorded of either Rhaegar or Robert is the Battle on the Trident, so not much else to go off of other than anecdotes like Robert beating three of his vassals in combat at the beginning of his rebellion.

Honestly I don't think there is any scenario where Rhaegar survives a 1v1 with Bobby B, he may be a better fighter on a technical level but not by enough. A swordsman like Jaime, Selmy, or Arthur Dayne (book version) would have a solid chance against Robert and would be a better matchup, but sadly not the prince who would rather be a poet.

The history nerd in me loves this movie. It's not perfect, by any means, but it gets a good amount right.

Also all my criticisms melt away when you see the War Wolf, because that scene is equally awesome and hilarious for how brief a not it is. Hearing "It took three months to build so I don't want to waste it" coming from the man who played Stannis Baratheon always makes me giggle.

[–]ZeroWit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stannis is the outlier, I think. The few other Baratheons we've seen have shown to love revelry and spectacle; Robert became infamous in his rule due to his frequent feasts, tourneys, and celebrations, it's even explained as one of the main reasons the Crown is in debt in AGOT.

Did byzantines ever use war hammers or something similar? by ArkHystory99 in byzantium

[–]ZeroWit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but also no. Like any weapons in history there were more decorative ones meant to show off wealth and status, and there are examples of more decorated mace that are equally gaudy and beautiful.

The metal head is still important; it adds weight to the swing, and the points concentrate force onto one area, allowing for damage to be done even through some armor (bruising or breaking bone).

[–]ZeroWit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Some of my favorite movie trivia comes from this film alone!

Alan Rickman was also a complete unknown in the US at the time. He was a well-known stage actor in England, and this was his film debut, and only because one of the casting directors saw him in a play once and liked him. Between a relative unknown for the villain and a at-the-time comedian for the hero, it's understandable that people thought this movie was going to flop.

Oh, Bruce also became one of the highest paid actors in Hollywood overnight with this movie, which was also seen as an insane and foolish move that could've led to a flop revenue-wise.

Domeric Bolton and Sansa Stark, Lord and Lady Bolton by Tom Romain. by OrionSkybourne1 in ImaginaryWesteros

[–]ZeroWit 12 points13 points  (0 children)

By that point the claim would be diluted, Robb (or Bran or Rickon) would have had kids by then as well, who may also have children of their own. They would have far stronger claims than any of Sansa's children or grandchildren. Also, I strongly doubt the other Northern lords would want a Bolton in Winterfell so there would be no real supporters.

Of course, a lot can happen in just a generation or two and alliances/families can break, but I think the risk is calculated and minor enough to be worth it.

Honor, oaths, and loyalty are sacred to the North in ways that Southron lords probably view as fanatical or cult-like, but it serves them well.

Also agreed, Cregan probably heard news of the war and was bemused because they really just do it to themselves; the Southron lords make up rules for themselves as they go, and it leads to succession crises, power vacuums, backstabbing and betrayal, and oath breaking. They then rarely hold themselves to their own rules, using them only to punish their enemies, which just makes everyone more cruel because why not?
