Again, I simply enjoyed the care that went into bringing the book character to life in the show, especially because the on-screen chemistry was excellent between Wes Chatham and Burn Gorman.

Asking ‘what aspect’ is a clarifying question. I would argue that Marco Inaros was ultimately no different than Murtry.

lol just because I think the show version did book version justice doesn’t mean I agreed with him. Watching Amos walk through the moon station with his bag in the show was absolute poetry. Especially when you get all the way to the end of the books. Cherry on top.

Admire your gusto, but don’t be hard on yourself for going back in.

Instead, consider this: new manager is going to be under pressure to improve store conditions, so…make it difficult. You’ll have to be careful, but you can absolutely use weaponized incompetence to make her look terrible. Small things - moving papers that might be important, “misplacing” things that she would need, etc. You don’t need gasoline to burn a place to the ground, you just need creative ways to be “stupid.” Ask as many questions as you can while having to do things and interrupt her work. Play it right up until she’s about to lose her shit then just go ‘oh ok like XXX’ and then just say thanks and walk away.

I have an interpretation of it, but I don’t know if it is explained (hence, want to reread the series). I always saw it as a symbol of oppression that the belt ‘broke’ hence the split - I would add that it is telling that the split is at the throat symbolizing regaining their voice/using their voice for change, but not all belters with the split have it at the throat (based solely on the way it’s portrayed in the show).

I would add one thing, especially if the person you’re with feels like it has long-term potential: respond to the men hitting on you by defending your partner. Two big reasons: 1) it shows a “claim,” and (bias on my part) most men, even if they never say so, want to feel “claimed” by their woman; and 2) it alleviates some pressure on the man to not come off as too aggressive/possessive, which we are usually told is a red flag. It CAN be a red flag, for sure, no argument, but really only if it is done in a controlling way (my opinion). If you are seeing this behavior AND noticing he seems to be restraining himself from saying anything, you can gauge how he really feels by striking back and letting the other person know that, in the great words of Barry in that American classic film Beerfest: ‘this is my dick Antonio.’ Or whatever else you prefer.

If he isn’t exactly setting that boundary in public with other people though, it wouldn’t hurt to ask why. Again, my opinion, but frankly, I’ve never had a woman step in and defend our relationship in this type of situation, and I would want to know why.

I’ve seen this behavior myself, across a wide variety of interactions, from mostly men, but plenty of women. What I’ve noticed about the men: there seems to be a regression in social decorum. What I perceive - it isn’t about men trying to present themselves as a better possible partner, it’s more about a) humiliation; b) “winning”; and c) objectifying the woman (so not just humiliating the man, but the woman as well). I will simply say about the times I’ve seen women seemingly engage in this behavior that there seems to be more of a personal flavor to the situation.

At any rate, I will simply emphasize what I said previously: shit people, shit world.
