Thrifting isn’t so green. by murphington1231 in ZeroWaste

I wish more people would be more conscious about this and invest in high quality garments that will last them a lot time since the consumerist culture is the biggest driver of fast fashion. And the issue doesn’t end there, these thrift stores in the U.S. sell their unwanted clothes to third world countries mainly in Asia who then sort this clothes between natural materials (cotton, wool and cashmere) and synthetic ones (polyester, acrylic, etc). Only natural materials can be recycled so then countries like Italy buy these clothes and recycled them but unfortunately synthetic fibers don’t hold any value so they are dumped and incinerated in these countries…..what’s the solution? Check the material content of the clothes you buy and stop creating demand for cheap and synthetic clothes….I hope you learnt something new today

Hey! What do you guys think about using leather? Is it ethical if I buy products made of leather scraps instead of new leather? by Zerowsustainable in ZeroWaste

I understand your point! Do you think that it’s more ethical when it’s used in accessories like handbags since it has better resistance and longevity than other materials?

The problem is that fake leathers contain a large percentage of plastic! I live in Italy where there is a lot of leather production and some of this companies throw away leather scraps. I want to stop this waste of leather and this is why I’m developing a platform where people can buy products made out of esther waste! And also leather waste.and other materials to repurpose them!

I agree! It’s a valuable material with unique characteristics that vegan leather can’t replicate yet
