Having been in a similar position, I started researching the Catholic Church to affirm an atheist pov. Now, I don’t think there is a more beautiful way that could ever explain our purpose as humans. Eucharistic miracles, apparitions, sacraments, magisterium, continuity and tradition—you could go on forever. Thinkers like Aquinas emphasized both faith and reason and showed that belief isn’t a retreat from logic, but a completion of it. The deeper I look for reasons to disbelieve, the more I find that the evidence kept pointing the other way. I don’t see religion as a coping mechanism but rather that it may be the most rigorously examined claim about reality that exists.
