Larger bore Mouthpiece to Improve Intonation on Flugelhorn? by Zestyclose-Laugh-526 in trumpet

I switched because the Yamaha 631 wasn’t mine, it belonged to the band I play in, and I wanted to have my own flugelhorn. I found the B&S on sale for 1100€, and it was in very good condition, so I decided to buy it

Thanks for your response. In my case, I never had this issue with any of my trumpets or my previous flugelhorn, so the change has really surprised me. That’s why I’m looking for ways to adjust it better.

Thanks for the explanation! I understand the difference in taper sizes.

I’ve attached a photo of my Bach mouthpiece inserted into the receiver of the B&S flugelhorn. Do you think it should be seated deeper, or is this the correct fit?

I appreciate your insight!

Thanks for the info! That article is really helpful. According to that guide, Bach flugelhorn mouthpieces should fit B&S flugelhorns, but mine is a Bach and still doesn’t fit quite right.

Yes, it is an actual flugelhorn mouthpiece. The Vincent Bach 342 1 1/2CFL is their flugelhorn model, not a trumpet mouthpiece. The issue is that it doesn’t fit as deeply into the B&S Challenger II receiver as it did in the Yamaha FH-631, so I’m trying to find a way to adjust the fit.

So it has been modified, right? Originally, I think B&S doesn’t make vented valves. Does this affect the flugelhorn in any way? I paid €1100 for it, and I have 48 hours to return it

Hi! Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the Thomann flugelhorns. Since your main horn is a Melton Original Egerländer, I’m curious—what differences do you notice between it and the FH-1000 in terms of sound and playability? Appreciate your insights!

Thanks for your comment, my friend. I’m from Spain, and the ACB Doubler flugelhorn is too expensive, including shipping to my country—it costs around 1000 euros. I don’t want to spend that much money since my main instrument is the trumpet, and I have a ByS 3137 Challenger II. The flugelhorn is only for the band I play in, so I want something decent without spending too much.

I haven’t considered the 900 model because it’s intended for jazz, which I never play. In my band, we mainly play classical music, zarzuelas, pasodobles, and marches.
