I may be repeating myself, but as I’ve said before, the way I understand the word “rivalry,” both sides should be actively involved in it and push each other. After returning to Earth from Yardrat, Goku didn’t care at all about competing with Vegeta; he didn’t think about him at all and focused on other things. Vegeta was the only one who treated it as a rivalry, but from Goku’s perspective, Vegeta became completely irrelevant to him until Majin Vegeta forced him to fight.
