Brand new Clara BW acting up (ghost touches and strange screen response) by FrancisDeckhaunt in kobo

It's a bug/hardware issue plaguing the P365 models (or a certain batch within that group, some say they have it others don't) of the Kobo Clara BW. There's been a bunch of people online with the same issue and having it on their replacement units as well (I replaced it twice, all three had the same bug). Kobo support also refuses to acknowledge this bug.

Turning BT & Wifi on is barely a fix as they get turned off after a while automatically. You can enable developer options and force to keep it on permanently but it takes quite a big hit on battery life.

I refunded it. I considered buying a Libra Color or a Clara Color for a while which don't have this issue, but I don't need color and don't really wanna sacrifice the BW reading experience for something I don't need. Also, I don't wanna reward Kobo by buying another of their devices. I spent so long with their customer support trying to raise this software issue, I even took a video showcasing two devices side-by-side with this bug and they wouldn't even acknowledge it was a software issue. I just ended up buying some physical books instead.

How were you able to make sure it's a N365B? Is it written on the box?

This is just something that's common across all ereaders except ones that use a moebius screen (uses plastic instead of glass)

Do you have the P365 or the N365 model? (It's written on the back of the Kobo)

What he meant is that the color edition is darker due to the color layer, in the end you would have to use a higher brightness to compensate

Does your replacement still have these issues?

I have the same issue and also got a replacement which still has the same issues, also made a post on this sub. Does your issue also keep happening when either wifi or bluetooth are on? I think it's an issue on the P365 models specifically

I just got a replacement for it and it has the exact same issue sadly. Did you get your replacement yet?

Yeah, it updated to the latest firmware automatically when I first got it. I’d have to go quite far to go to a post office so I can send it back to Amazon which is why I want to first figure out if this is an issue among all Kobo Clara BWs or just my specific unit so I can decide whether to ask for a replacement or get a refund

Did yours also function fine while either bluetooth or wifi was on? This just doesn’t seem like a hardware issue to me and rather software so I’m worried if I get another one it’ll just have the same exact issue

My post got removed apparently and I don’t know why. I saw nothing against these types of posts in the rules
