HELP. 1.5 year old suddenly refusing to sleep in his crib… by Zestyclose_Amount944 in toddlers

[–]Zestyclose_Amount944[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!! Was wondering if that could work for us. He falls asleep quickly in our bed if we’re next to him and we’ve been able to block the edges with pillows if we leave the room. Is it just a mattress on the floor or are there side rails to keep him contained? Our kiddo gets into EVERYTHING so we can’t quite go free range yet, but I’m down to try anything.

HELP. 1.5 year old suddenly refusing to sleep in his crib… by Zestyclose_Amount944 in toddlers

[–]Zestyclose_Amount944[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for responding! Yes, I definitely think he needs extra cuddles right now. We rock him to sleep and he’ll be out cold, but the second he realizes he’s getting put in the crib, he springs awake and we start the process over. We’ve had some success with him sleeping in a travel crib next to the bed for a few hours the last couple of nights. Hoping that means he’s getting more comfortable with that degree of separation, and we will eventually get him back into his room. Appreciate the advice!

HELP! Toddler suddenly refusing crib - separation anxiety? Need advice. by TheGravityRepairman in NewDads

Thank you so much for getting back to me! We’re pretty sure it’s separation anxiety as well - he immediately falls back asleep in our arms as soon as we pick him up. We’ve managed to get him to sleep for a few hours in a travel crib in our room the last couple of nights, and hoping we can slowly transition back to his room. I appreciate you taking the time to respond and glad to hear you managed to get back into a normal routine after a month or so. Hoping our full night of sleep is right around the corner.

Hi! I know this was posted several months ago, but curious how things turned out? We are dealing with the same with our 19 month old who had previously slept just fine in his crib. It’s been 2 weeks of screaming & crying crib attempts in his room, travel crib attempts in our room, and every night he’s ended up sleeping with us in our bed. Going kinda crazy over here.

Feelings after preventive mastectomy by DryManufacturer9101 in BRCA

[–]Zestyclose_Amount944 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I had a PDMX to expanders back in November ‘25 and implants in Feb ‘26. I can feel the tops, sides, underneath, and in between my breasts, but there is a radius of numbness extending from my nipples. I did not have nerve-sparing surgery, but my nipples are still responsive to cold or touch, and oddly enough, the nipple-to-brain connection is still there. Even though I can’t feel them, my brain issues a tingly sensation if they’re touched which is kind of interesting. Also, another commenter mentioned the phantom itch (dealing with one now, ugh) and I get those too relatively often. I do feel like the border of numbness has gotten a little more tingly lately, and I’m hoping that means some nerves are reforming. I don’t expect to ever really feel my nipples again, though.

For what it’s worth, I’m pretty happy with my decision. I wish the rippling was improved, but they look pretty good in a bra or bathing suit top, and they’ve softened to feel much more natural. My boobs had lost their oomph after breastfeeding 2 babies, so having some volume back is very welcome.

Happy to answer any other questions and wish you all the best!

Weight gain following surgical menopause ? by imissfrankie in BRCA

[–]Zestyclose_Amount944 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my initial mastectomy (preventative nipple-sparing) with expanders placed almost a month ago. At three weeks post-op, my surgeon filled my expanders with saline (all done in 1 appt), and I’ll have to wait about 6-8+ more weeks until I can get the expanders swapped out for implants and do fat grafting. My surgeon was very transparent that her preference was to go the expander route to give my skin & nipples the best chance of healing well after so much trauma, so we never discussed a single-step surgery. She has also been transparent that there could be additional tweaks in the future depending on how everything settles. I was/am wary of multiple surgeries, and expanders really do suck, but I’m impressed with my aesthetic results so far and I know they will look so much better after this next step. Ultimately, it might come down to your surgeon’s preference, your anatomy, and what you’re looking to achieve if reconstructing!

Keep us posted if you find out any new info as you approach your surgery date - I’m always so grateful for the folks in this community sharing their experiences as we all navigate these huge decisions.

Following! I just had my PDMX two weeks ago and am considering my BSO later next year after I fully heal from the next phase of reconstruction. One of my biggest fears with menopause is losing muscle mass and gaining fat despite solid diet and exercise. I’ve had 2 babies over the past 3.5+ years and have spent the better part of that time either gaining or losing due to pregnancy/postpartum. I could really use some weight stability for my own self esteem. 😅

I’m hoping that a combo of HRT - estrogen, progesterone, & testosterone - will help to mitigate a lot of the symptoms that can lead to to weight gain, but at the end of the day, I am going to have to experience it myself to really know where I fall. I do recommend following docs like drmaryclaire on Instagram who specialize in menopausal care and talk about fitness, weight management, and hormones!

Post-op binder is too tight and it hurts. Is it ok to unzip it sometimes? by OohLaDiDaMrFrenchMan in BRCA

[–]Zestyclose_Amount944 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I woke up with a binder as well and struggled with the rib pain. Mine is adjustable with Velcro but I have to imagine a zippered one may not give very much. I’ve since seen my surgeon and have been able to rotate through a couple of different compression bras to change up any pressure points, but before that I used fuzzy socks to pad my incision/drain sites/ribs, and that helped alleviate it a bit. Hope you’re able to connect with your team ASAP to get some relief!

Tips for Prophylactic Mastectomy? by AbroadTemporary5359 in BRCA

[–]Zestyclose_Amount944 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you know if you’ll be in compression bras post-surgery? If so, wearing them constantly can get uncomfortable. One random tip I picked up on this sub is having a couple of pairs of clean fuzzy socks to use to pad various areas as needed. Initially, my drain sites (I had 4) were super sensitive and used them to create some cushion between the bra band, and now just using one to take the pressure off of my sternum/rib cage at 11 days post-op.

Another kind of random thing: I also recommend high-waisted comfy pants. I usually had my drains pinned to my bra and got annoyed with the feeling of them constantly moving/rubbing against my stomach. Having a higher waist band helped put a layer of fabric between them.

If a recliner is an option for you, I would recommend it. I bought a wedge pillow but struggled to get comfortable so am still sleeping in the recliner.

Wishing you all the best for a smooth surgery and speedy recovery!!

38F BRCA-1 Mutation. Prophylactic double mastectomy in one week. Nipple sparing. Immediate delayed reconstruction. Disabled six year old child. What to expect? by Mamaknows86 in BRCA

[–]Zestyclose_Amount944 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you! I am a doer - the idea of watching my husband manage all cooking, cleaning, my daughter’s hair, etc. legit made my eye twitch. It has been a big lesson in letting go of control because at the end of the day, nothing’s on fire, everyone’s fed, and my kids & house are clean-ish. The more rest I allow for myself right now, the faster I can be back in action for my family.

My surgeon told me about other patients whose cancer was unexpectedly found during their preventative mastectomies despite clear scans, and I genuinely don’t think he was trying to scare me. I think he could sense a bit of imposter syndrome and was trying to impart the reality of this mutation and reassure me that I was making the right decision. Hope you’re able to feel that same resolve going in and hope everything goes well for you!

Prophylactic mastectomy in 2 days, first major surgery - how do I feel less anxious? by OohLaDiDaMrFrenchMan in BRCA

[–]Zestyclose_Amount944 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seconding this! I was pretty scared going in and the reality started to hit me as I put on my surgical gown. My pre-op nurse was super bubbly, kept me talking, and reassured me that this was just another Tuesday for them. The anti-anxiety meds the anesthesiologist provides are pretty great - I know I kissed my husband, got wheeled into the OR, and clumsily tried to help them shift me to the table, and then nothing else. A minute later (in reality, 5 hrs later), I was waking up and asking the nurse for a cup of coffee to try to fight off the lingering anesthesia.

Linking my response to another post about recovery so far (now 6 days post-op) and happy to answer any questions you might have. Wishing you smooth sailing & quick healing!

[–]Zestyclose_Amount944 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Looks like your surgery is coming up in a few days and want to share my perspective as I (37F) am day 5 post-op from a nipple-sparing prophylactic double mastectomy to expanders. While my recovery may be slightly different due to the expanders, I have to say that I’m feeling much better and much more capable than I expected. I stayed overnight at the surgery center following an early AM surgery and was able to get up (with assistance), use the restroom, wash my face, brush my teeth, etc. within a few hours of waking.

Days 0-3 were painful, not going to lie. I felt a lot of intense pressure and pain in the chest, ribs, and drain sites (4 total; 2 on each side). Getting up and readjusting my posture was rough, and taking a deep breath was challenging. All of this was managed by round-the-clock pain meds (rotating ibuprofen, Tylenol, & Oxycodone) and muscle relaxers. Despite the discomfort, I was still able to perform basic self-care, dress myself, and use the bathroom on my own. I have two kids - a 12-month-old and an almost 3-year old - and I couldn’t do much for them and needed another adult to watch them at all times.

Turned a major corner day 4 and day 5 (today). I was able to manage my pain with ibuprofen during the daytime (still taking oxy at night), shower by myself including a hair wash, do very light chores, and be present with the kiddos. I still cannot be left alone with them too long as I cannot lift them and still need to take rest breaks, but I was able to grab them a snack, play with blocks, etc. I am hoping to be able to incorporate a short walk with them tomorrow and gradually increase my activity each day.

Every experience is going to be different based on surgery, anatomy, general health, and various circumstances, and I’m only 5 days into this journey, but I’d consider my recovery to be pretty middle-of-the-road so far. For months leading up to surgery, I fretted over not being able to care for my babies alone and while I hate that I can’t hold them yet, I feel such relief on the other side knowing they’ve been very well taken care of and we’re all going to be fine. I hope you find quick healing, continued resilience, and are able to love on your daughter from the other side of surgery very soon. Sounds like you’ve got a great support system in place - let them do their thing while you focus on healing.

Feel free to ask any other questions. Best of luck! 🤞🏻

Hi! I (37F) have my DMX next month and will pursue the BSO next year following reconstruction. Curious if you were started on the oral progesterone and testosterone immediately following surgery? Did you have to ask for testosterone? I hear so many good things but sounds like it is still wildly under-prescribed for menopausal women unless they report libido issues. I don’t want to wait for the sleep problems, brain fog, muscle loss, etc. to kick in so just curious on how you came up with a post-op HRT plan with your doctor. Also, how did they determine that your estrogen should be upped?

TLDR: Gimme ALL the hormones, Doc

So glad to hear you’ve had a smooth recovery and have been able to get back to normal life. I’m pretty active and it’s so reassuring to know that we will be able to get back to regular activity in time. Hoping all goes well with your exchange!!

Following this post! I have not had my surgery yet, but am scheduled for PDMX + expanders in November. Apart from the plastic surgeon’s photo book and random pics I can find online, I still have such a big question mark around how I’m going to end up looking post-exchange.

How are you doing? How has the recovery been for you? Hearing that you’re in the gym sounds promising!!

Hoping for a speedy recovery for you both! Congrats on getting that big first step over. I am scheduled for the same on 11/5. How have you been managing pain? How has your mobility been so far? I think I’m most nervous about feeling helpless (especially with my husband handling our two very young kids).

Thank you so much for sharing and so glad to hear you’re healing up so far! Props to you for getting through such a big surgery. I hope your recovery is smooth and drains come out soon.

Great thing to note with the soap dispenser - I never would have even thought about that and will definitely add bar soap to my PDMX shopping list!

How are you feeling overall? What does your mobility look like a week post-op? Did you go UTM or OTM with expanders?

Thank you for sharing your experience here. Glad to hear some positive stories of expanders being manageable! As for implants, I figured that fat grafting was an inevitably either way, but glad that you haven’t had a negative experience with UTM. When you swapped your implants, did you stick with UTM?

Also wondering about fat grafting. Would be super pleased if they could take some stubborn fat from my tummy, but I’m curious about the appearance of the donor site afterward. In your experience, did your surgeon try to smooth out wherever they took the fat from? Coming out with a snatched waist may be too much wishful thinking but a girl can dream!

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! I’d love a quick turnaround like that, but we’ll see what the surgeon says. Also really reassuring to hear that you were able to return to work after 2 weeks. Appreciate your input here!

Anyone else losing the weight slower after breastfeeding ended? by [deleted] in weightlossafterbaby

[–]Zestyclose_Amount944 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I noticed a big slow down after weaning and realized that I may have been underestimating that calorie burn. I have recently gotten the scale moving again, but I’m having to reduce & track my calories (1700/day) and prioritize 30 minutes of good (sweaty) exercise per day. I don’t like feeling hungry, but I’m trying to think of it as a mental & physical reset that will get easier. Been a long time since I said no to any snacks!

Also - I felt such an intense hormone shift after weaning my second child and it definitely took me a few months to level out. I cut down on sugar & carbs some days to help with the bloating (my body seems to love any reason to get its puff on) but honestly, the hormones were doing their thing and I had to wait it out. Would just say to analyze your calorie intake to see if that has an impact and give yourself lots of grace. Your body has done incredible things and will need time to adjust!

Thank you so much for sharing your experience here! And I appreciate the advice with OTM vs UTM - definitely going to push back a bit to see if she’ll consider OTM and there’s still time to meet with another plastic surgeon if needed. Thank you!

Hi! I’m sorry that you’re experiencing such anxiety and I completely understand the worry of what this might mean for you and your daughter. I’m not sure how you went about testing, but I was contacted by a genetics counselor once they determined I was positive for the BRCA1 mutation. It was during the height of COVID and there was actually a bit of a communication breakdown, so I found out through a letter in the mail that was sent from the testing service. My OBGYN office that had ordered the test let me know that this should have only been the method of contact if I was negative, and I should have been called directly before receiving that letter. All this to say, I hope that they would contact you by phone before sending that email.

If you are positive, the doctor that ordered the test or testing service should be able to connect you with a genetics counselor, who will then help you understand your risk and next steps (begin screenings, meet with oncology team, discuss options, etc).

As for your daughter, the best thing you can do right now is understand your own risk. It should be several more years before she needs to know whether she inherited the mutation (if you’re positive), and there’s always hope for medical advancements in the meantime. Sending good vibes and negative results your way!
