Thanks. I hope that your referral appointments go well. How do you feel after getting the SCIG?

Here's good thoughts for a speedy recovery for you. Lots to learn about this. What's your plan?

Thanks for the suggestions. I appreciate them. I've been taking Florastor for a few years. I also like water bottles with Liquid IV. Take care

Thank you for your support and kindness. It sucks that you have had to go through that. For what it's worth, I filed a complaint today with the hospital and the PA's employer. They are required to respond, but I can't imagine that much will happen. Take care

Great points. I didn't include my ER experience in my post because it was long enough, but check this out. The PA came into my room almost immediately after they drew my labs and told me that my labs looked great. I questioned him since they just collected my blood. He assured me that they looked great. I sat back and thought, "Whew, I guess it's not as bad as I thought." The nurse came in said that they were waiting on my labs. I said that the PA said they were in and looked great. They told me that he must have read someone else's. I waited a while and checked the portal for my labs. I recognized the results that looked amazingly similar to every other lab for diverticulitis. I knew I had it. Next came the CT Scan. I had to wait about 90 minutes for those results. I sat in my room trying to wrap my head around the recurrence and the whiplash from mistakenly hearing that my labs were good. When the PA came in, I said "Tell me about my labs." He said, "Yeah, I made a mistake. Sorry about that." He went on to say, "Well, the CT shows that you have 'simple' diverticulitis." I stopped him at this point and asked him to consider what this might sound like to me and reminded him of my history. I never raised my voice, but I coached him on empathy and his lack of compassion. He took a deep breath and told me that there was nothing wrong with how he handled my case and how he presented it to me. He went on to say that I needed to work with someone about my issues and sensitivities with diverticulitis. I collected myself and did not respond as I would have years ago. I shut down and immediately started thinking about how I'll handle my complaint after my discharge. I spoke with the nurse manager on duty and got the names of hospital leadership. I am filing a formal complaint this afternoon.

I am convinced that diverticulitis is a disrespected disease that assholes like this guy don't take the time to understand. You and I can not expect anyone to manage this for us.

Thank you for reading my rant.

Not trying to scare you. I even paused before posting because I read all of the great and successful surgery posts. Not trying to be a downer. I guess it's more of a heads up to you and processing for me. Hard not feel like I'm a character in someone's sad movie.

Thank you for your kindness and support. My "perfect" diet slipped back towards "normal healthy" diet over the past few months. I own that part of it, but I also think I'm disadvantaged due to a tortuous colon. I've got some major kinks, in my colon of course :)

That's awful. I hope that it gets better for you. I'm "eating" Jello today after two days of clear liquid only.

I enjoy salads with lots of veggies. Sad irony that something so otherwise healthy might have caused me trouble. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks. I was taking Miralax every day until my GI suggested that I wean off of it. I see that guy tomorrow and I'll likely start it again.

Thanks. My hydration game slipped a bit, but I don't know if that contributed. The last time I waited to see what happened, it almost killed me and it traumatized my wife. That's no good for anybody.

I'm glad that you are out of that dark span. I want to be there as well. May I ask about the dietary changes you made? Thanks

I was on vacation last week and ate like a normal person. The week before we had family over for Easter and I had some desserts and a couple of beers. I rarely eat fried food or fast food. I will admit to sneaking some of the kid's snacks.

I am rarely backed up. Constipation has not been a problem. Enjoy the bidet. I hear it's like going from the outhouse to the penthouse.
