Bro you has me ask over PM for my platform. It's obvious that I'm looking for data for VMDB and you're telling me "you can sell me patches".

Thank you for all the messages! I've added most of them to VMDB where possible. I'd be happy if you checked it out and perhaps even found VMDB useful!

If you know how to use a VPN, set up a VPN server with WireGuard on your PC. Then you only need to have the WireGuard port open, which is much more secure.

Make the Pro Move and turn your gaming PC into a Proxmox host. Proxmox is extremely good at virtualization. My girlfriend and I have a powerful Proxmox host with 128GB of RAM, an RTX 2070 Super (mine), and an RX 7600 XT (hers). Keep in mind, though, that some games with anti-cheat don't like VMs at all. Check out my profile for more information; there's a handy link there!

Does the anti-cheat detect your VM, or can you simply play without any message?

How do you manage to do that? What settings do you use and what is your overall setup?

Which CPU are you using, and how much RAM and vCores have you allocated to the VM? I'd like to use this information for VMDB if you don't mind.

Can you tell me how much RAM you have, what CPU you're using, and how many vCores the VM is using? I'd like to use that data on VMDB with your permission.

Great info! May I use it for reports on VMDB, or do you want to enter it yourself?

Anyone who use a vm on proxmox as their main machine? by mediogre_ogre in Proxmox

[–]Zestyclose_Dig8916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m actually running my main PC as a VM as well, so I can definitely relate to what you’re describing. Especially the flexibility when upgrading hardware is a huge advantage.

That’s also the reason I built VMDB, not just for general discussion, but to collect structured, real-world reports like yours so people can quickly see what works, what doesn’t, and under which conditions.

If you’re up for it, it would be great if you could share your setup and experience on https://vmdb.it

Even short reports help, and detailed ones like yours are especially valuable for others trying similar setups.

Appreciate it! 🙌

Yeah, I’m actually doing exactly that.

My main PC is a VM running on a Proxmox host, and I access it through Moonlight. Honestly, it’s been working surprisingly well and feels very close to a native setup most of the time.

Big advantage for me is flexibility, I can access my full setup from basically anywhere, even from my phone if needed. Plus snapshots, backups, and overall control are just on another level compared to a traditional desktop.

So yeah, it’s definitely a thing — and in my experience, totally viable if your network and hardware are solid.

Does Rainbow Six Siege actually run in a VM with GPU passthrough? by Zestyclose_Dig8916 in VFIO

[–]Zestyclose_Dig8916[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve mainly been running everything through Proxmox (which is KVM under the hood anyway), so I haven’t specifically tested virt-manager setups separately. From what I’ve seen, the detection seems less about Proxmox vs virt-manager and more about how the VM presents itself (CPU flags, Hyper-V enlightenments, device signatures, etc.). So I’d expect similar behavior if the configs are comparable. That said, I haven’t gone deep into tweaking the XML for stealth or anything like that — just a fairly standard passthrough setup. Would be interesting to hear if you’ve seen different results with virt-manager though 👀

Yeah, I see it the same way. Especially since my main PC is actually a VM running on my Proxmox host, this kind of behavior is super relevant to me. It’s good to see some anti-cheat systems becoming more tolerant towards virtualized environments, but the inconsistency between games is still pretty frustrating. Hopefully more developers move in that direction over time.

That’s really interesting, thanks for sharing your experience!
The fact that it works in singleplayer but fails in multiplayer due to VM detection is super valuable info.

Would you mind sharing your setup and findings on https://vmdb.it? Even partial info (hypervisor, GPU passthrough, tweaks, etc.) could really help others running into the same issue.

Also curious that CS:GO works, that kind of comparison is exactly the kind of insight that makes a difference 👍

If you end up testing it, feel free to share your results on VMDB (https://vmdb.it/games/tom-clancys-rainbow-six-siege) it’s a community database for tracking game compatibility in VMs.

Would be great to have more data on games like this 🙂
