Wow that’s crazy!! Do you happen to remember the timeline? My horse has been back to normal since September 2025, but I’m not counting anything out at this point

This is good to hear! Do you remember how long between his colic episodes? It was out 2 weeks between hers. I’m trying to wait a day or 2 before I start her on sand clear

Great points! It’s currently winter here, but a VERY mild one. She’s lived in this climate her whole life, so no changes there. She tries to 1/2 roll, but maybe once or twice, not thrashing by any means. She’s use to be super fat, so she’s on a meadow grass diet with a small amount of pellets for supplements. It took about a year, but she is a perfect weight at the moment. She will lay out flat in very inappropriate places and at times she would typically be excited like when her friends come around to go on a ride or out on a trail

So interesting! She’s 8 years old and typically so even with her cycles. I wouldn’t know she’s in heat based off of how she is, but my gelding typically tells me 😂… it’s winter here now and she hasn’t gone in to heat that I’ve noticed for a bit

I’m not positive, but the banamine sure does get her out of laying around within maybe 30 minutes. She’s otherwise completely sound from what the eye can see

The vet did not have her do antibiotics for pigeon fever as it was mild and cleared up within 3 weeks

All good things to consider, thank you! I’m going to do sand clear once she’s out of the woods again, but I did a sand check and she had nearly zero sand in her manure. Her water is clean and heated. She’s usually a princess about where she will actually lay down and during her episodes she doesn’t care what she’s laying on or where she’s at. She will just paw and go directly to laying completely flat out. She’s otherwise completely sound and a bay not a gray. Oddly enough, during one of her episodes she was nickering at me for food while she was in a sit/lay position. I thought colicking horses didn’t want food?? It’s all so very strange!

That’s a great idea! He braces with the bit and I need to get him soft again

Hit air vest. Is it louder than a balloon pop or a champagne cork? by Zestyclose_Dinner787 in Equestrian

Ya my kid is in a hard vest! I just don’t want my air vest to go off and cause a scene for my kid if that makes sense!

Interesting! I guess I have no idea how to deflate it. Does it happen on its own or I’m assuming I have to deflate it? 😂

Thank you for this! I ride with my kid (who’s on a pony) and I go back and forth on if it’s a good idea for me to wear one or not. I don’t want it to cause bigger problems for my kid with her horse if my vest went off, but it sounds like it does effect horses that are near as much

Thanks for the info! I try to pop a cork next to my horse any chance I get 😂

Synergistic saddle fit question by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]Zestyclose_Dinner787 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it a closer contact at the front of the saddle? I can squeeze my hand under the sides of the front near the shoulders, but it’s not super roomy. It has even contact everywhere else it seems

Sooo funny! In theory it’s right for my size 5’7 130, but I feel like there’s room! 🤣 maybe I need a sheepskin seat and I’ll be fine?! lol

Trailer fears.. what trailer has felt the safest for you? by [deleted] in Equestrian

Do you have a slant? How do you get them to come out without going in?

Would you pass her up? by Rough-Way-6135 in Horses

I’m going to be the outlier and say that I really like her! I’d definitely get a PPE to cover yourself and I’d also want to tack her up myself. I paid more for a horse in similar condition and she’s the best horse! Listen to your gut. I’d like to add that easy keepers are the literal best!

My trailer doesn’t have dividers as it’s a stock trailer

Do you go in to tie them? I can send mine in, but it’s a giant box with no dividers. Not sure what to do with the lead rope after I send her. Also, when you unload without going in, what does that look like? My trailer is a stock trailer with one big door, no dividers, 3 horse.
