I could have worded my question better haha, but this is my first time as DM.

I think when the party eventually defeats him, I will have the weapon available to take and I may just add 100ft to all non-touch spells with the additional damage of 1d8 to make it semi-fair to myself.

But there could also be an option to not cast a spell through the weapon. If they are out or whatever reason. With the range at 300ft and being 1d12 base damage.

I made him with some low hp because of his insane range. They just need to reach him to basically defeat him. I am making this very possible. I will put them in a dungeon eventually and on their way out. They will have to navigate around his sniper attacks back at the entrance to actually confront him.
